This is a model I made a long while a go.It's my first or second attempt (sorry I can't remember) on building a head.
I'm going to do for my BA a subject revolving around3d illustration (I'm a graphic design student.).And so I wanted to solve as many problems as I can.
I don't have any knowledge on modelling stuff like humans etc.My questions are:
How am I going to texture the head.I'm planning on flattening the mesh and painting a texture for it.But my problem lies here. What do I do with the eyes. The lids need to be closed or open like they are on the photos?? I guess they need to be closed. So how do I close them??? Pushing and pulling again points is out of the question. So what do I need to do then.Make an IK skeleton for it?
Because I want the model to be posable at some time I will put an IK skeleton to it.What is the appropriate time? Before or after texturing the head????
Also what are the appropriate point selections for better handling in modelling and animation.eg I have a point selection of the edges of the lips and of the upper and lower lip.Is this sufficient for the mouth or do I need more different selections
Thanks for your answers.
Please be as detailed as possible cause you answers will help me very much.

My question was about the texturing on the eyes. Not how to build a texture. What do you do to texture the upper eye lid which of course some times gets closed? If you unwrap the mesh will the eye lid be coloured? Cause I thought that it won't cause of the overlapping geometry.

OK, I think you need Bodypaint or a UVW plugin to do this (there is one on plugincafe.com I think), but if you export the UVW map so that you can paint it, there will be UVW coordinates in the mesh for eyelids wether they are hidden or not, then you have to move the UVW points around so that you can see them to paint them. Look at this..

and this..

http://www.maxoncomputer.com/tutorial_detail.asp?tutorialID=179&site=

and..

http://www.taffix.com/Tutorials/UVWMap/

this last one is for Max but it explains the idea quite well.

I have not done UVW unwrapping in Cinema 4D yet so this is the best I can do - sorry.

PS I think it is sometimes easier to texture before rigging and animating.
