Sculpture drawing. I had already gone too far when I found out I was using the 'wrong' side of the canson paper. This is the side with all the teeth thats hard to cover up.

Wip of an image am doing. Submitted this as a filler to my eon challenge ;) Sort of a hail mary throw. Image is referenced from a picture of a little girl I saw lying around somewhere.
My original intent is to draw it for an oil painting. The original drawing is on a 80 by 110cm drawing paper to be transfered to canvas. I shot a picture of this and uploaded to photoshop.

Hi QS
That’s a nice torso study you got there.
I think the part between the ribcage and the pelvic area might be a bit elongated, and I think if you where to soften up the contour line on the left side of the image it might help to settle it back in space a bit – it’s just a bit contrasty right now.:)
I actually kind of like the texture that “drawing on the wrong side of the paper” gave you, it gives it a bit of character. I guess that what people call “happy accidents” .
Nice stuff, keep it up.:)

Queensoul,
I hope someday, you finish that little girl as a pencil...it's got such a beautiful delicate quality to it. I like your painting, too...the chest area will work as you put in the tones and shadows, I think. There is something about the mouth that seems a little off, but it's very pretty.

You're totally right my friend... I've exactly the same feeling the first seconds I saw this painting... just for me "more modern" than Frida... so actual then...
I really appreciate... for me, certainly your best painting miss... keep the good mood... keep the good feeling... keep the emotion... http://forums.cgsociety.org/images/rating/rating_5.gif
Have a nice day Queenie
Awwww, thank you guys. I am really having fun whacking my canvas these days. Just trying to express myself.
I got accepted to attend studio escalier (http://www.studioescalier.com/) for 3 months in the Autumn. I sure hope to whip myself into enough shape to keep up with the artists there. The teachers will be Timothy Stotz, Nicole Michelle Tully, Ted Seth Jacobs and Anthony Ryder. With all that talent and my current apprenticeship with Miles Mathis, I hope to pick up a couple of things :D

Thank you Glen :)
I started practising hard with every tool I have. I am practising my oil colors with many photos and live studies. Needless to say I have more photos than live models :)
My favorite cyber model is Sophie/lockstock at deviant art. I'll be doing a couple of art pieces with her as my model. I started an oil painting of one her images. But I decided to do something different, finish a complete study in painter using just the traditional oil paints in painter and do the same thing on linen canvas. I am just excited to see what the differences will be. Its just an experiment to see if this will be an efficient way for me to work.
I started with a sketch of the image, turned upside down in pure Betty style. I forgot the link to the Anat forum where we started studying that technique. But I'll find it and link it.
http://www.queensoul.com/images/digisketch.jpg
I started painting with a palette of Burnt umber, Yellow ochre, Alizarin crimson, Phtallo Blue, white, red, green ..and some other colors, I have to check the exact colors in painter.
WIP SHOT 1

I have to start laying in my background soon. So I can unify the rest of the image, before continuing.
Update coming soon.

Lovely stuff QS, particularly the digital painting - don't show that to your prof or he'll keel. ;)
Let us know how the Workshop goes, and for god's sake woman, TAKE PICTURES!!! :D

The last wip is amazing! Did you use the original sketch as a basis or did you start a new base sketch seperately for the computer version?
Thank you Becca and Womball.
I basically uploaded the original paper sketch. Duplicated it a couple of times and worked directly on one of the copies. This is the way I also approach it on canvas. I first make a completed drawing on the canvas. Then sketch it over with raw sienna or umber.
Here is the first time I saved it. You can still see my little tape of the drawing. (How dorky is that.) But I like the paper texture.
http://www.queensoul.com/images/sophiewip2.jpg
I still don't know how to make my own brushes in painter :p. So I still owe Robert (Lunatique) a beer for his paint brushes .
http://www.queensoul.com/images/screenie1.jpg
You can see Sophie next to my canvas. I want to change her features but I could not resist trying to get a resemblance, although that is not my primary concern. The goal is to experiment with the colors. So when layer one is completely filled in, I'll bring on the glazes.
I will change the background though. I just wanted to get away from that depressing gray :D

That looks awesome QS. :) You could just clone stamp out the tape if you like - or alternately, marquee select an area of the paper a bit larger than the tape somewhere near that area and feather the selection a bit, then copy and paste the paper texture to cover the tape. Or, you could just paste a picture of Ronon on top - that always does the trick. :D

LOL!
Oh I am not worried about that tape. I always paint over it or just crop it away. Its already gone anyway with the irky temporary blue background which I am dying to paint on as soon as I know what I want to do with it.
Ohhh you said the R word. :D

Wow, its been awhile since I updated this thread. The last three months I have been taking intensive drawing and painting classes at escalier studio in the south of France. It was a mind blowing experience.
Here are some works from that workshop. They were mostly unfinished but I am happy with what I learned in the process of executing the images.

Hey pooks, all is well. :) Keeping busy running all around LA. So far, so fun. I'm proud of my students so far, and hoping for another good semester. Hope you'll post some of your pictures here (photos) as well!
Hello guys, its been a long time since I had fun with my digital tablet. This is a study I did in painter and some photoshop for an oil painting. It was a drapery study The model is MarieCatherine (MC), a young and beautiful Canadian artist.
I started with a rough pencil sketch which I then scanned ( camera is broken) into photoshop. I rushed to complete this image for d'artiste but I was not able to bring it to a finish like I wanted to.

Hey Queenie, nice to see you popping in. :) I think this last piece shows great improvement and it's good to see you doing digis again. :)
If I may crit a bit, I'd say the arm on the right needs a bit of work, as it seems a little stiff compared to the other arm. I love the way you've painted the face! I'd like to see the same fluidity carried over into the drapery as well - maybe a little more hue variation to enliven the cloth a bit more, or slightly more dramatic lights and darks. Overall a strong piece, hope to see more. :)

Hi ...QueenSoul...:) ....GREAT TO SEE YOUR LATEST..
I was thinking that maybe a little of that cloth color reflected onto her skin, might unify the painting more...looks a little cutout/flat around the face area on the side where the cloth is pulled up against her face,..a little reflected color cast on the shadow side of her face might give the extra depth needed in that area.
Also the focal point of the painting is her face, ..so you might want to create some crisp edges on the cloth in that area..bringing the cloth into focus more in the focal point of the painting..and around the hands also maybe..Just a couple of thoughts that might be of use to you.
ANYWAY,...REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF YOUR WORK..AND THE BEAUTIFUL PROGRESS THAT'S HAPPENING WITH IT..:)
