hi, i'm trying to decide whether to stick with my recent switch to maya (been a max user for 2-3 years) or whether to start afresh next semester with xsi or lw. i recently sent away for lightwave discovery and i was wondering if there is a demo version or whatever you want to call it for xsi either 2.0 or v3.0.

oh ya, what's the difference between softimage and xsi? i know i could read it on their site but i'm lazy.

thanks in advance. :)

I think they still do the experience CD that was available with the release of 2.0. You can not save with it, but all else works.

3 is much stronger, but if you can only get 2 have a look at that.

Check on the website, and mail someone to enquire, they may have a few still floating about.

frumpy_bunyin is right. The XSI "experience cd" is only at version 2. You can download it here: http://www.softimage.com/Products/xsi/v2/ExperienceCD/Get_It.htm

There is an educational version of XSI 3.0 but you have to buy it. However, it is no different from the full commercial version. You can get it here: http://www.journeyed.com

The difference between XSI and 3D can be found here: http://www.xsibase.com/cgi-bin/netview/YaBB.cgi?board=soft3dgen;action=display;num=1027541279

The thing that I've come to the comclusion is that 3d is simpler to use and allittle more user friendly for ametures or just for people who prefer to take it the simpler route. XSI for instance with me I couldn't do jack. However when we got 3d up and running I started doing pretty good. The commans are alot like XSI except that XSI is more technical from my experience. sorry for spelling errors
