this i started with a rough sketch which looks totally like a nonhuman form spider ,then i began to wonder it might be better if i present a human with just a little feel of something related to a spider.so, i this is how i started,aha.
well,i tend to use photoshop more lately,totally got obsessed by self-define brushes.hope you like it,ho

Very Nice Style, I like the idea as well, although I don't think there is an ancient Chinese hero called spinder. Who cares, its his English Name.
One thing I noticed was that your thumbnail doesn't match the painting. lol.
