Hi,

I'm about to order XSI from Safe Harbor. I'd heard that Foundation comes with some sort of training DVD. Is this still the case or was this a special promotion? Also, can this DVD be played in a normal DVD player? If not, could someone please direct me to some training DVDs that will work in a regular player?

Thanks!

I believe that was a promotion... secondly it was Flash based... thirdly... Training in NTSC or PAL (IMO) is not very good, as you usually can't see very well what the instructor is doing... the pixel dimensions of a television is significantly smaller than your interface, and there for things are fuzzy, or it is pan-and-scan all over the place, which is counter productive.

Take a look at the Softimage Store. All the info you need is there.

Foundation 5.0 comes with two DVD's ("First Contact" and "Tips and Tricks"). Each DVD has both the NTSC and PAL version included.

Foundation came with a whole set of DVD training material when I bought it a year or so ago. I would suggest asking whoever you buy from to give you the complete set or nothing. It never hurts to negotiate you know.

The production dvd bundle (5 dvds) was sent out when softimage first released foundation. Now, they just send out the two dvds mentioned above and if you want the production bundle, you have to buy it separately.

Thanks for the info everyone. I hadn't seen that on the Softimage site. Good to know.

No they are not the same thing. You can read the content of the dvd on the softimage store.

Principals of xsi was just a collection of all the vids that were available on the xsi website for free.

The first contact dvd for TV is complete garbage. I have not tried it on a hdtv, maybe it's better there, but the quality on my regular TV is so poor that you can barely make out what the heck is going on on screen. I highly advise you to go for DVD's with contents for your PC.
All else will only frustrate.

I bought my from safe harbor in oct. and asked them the same question. They told me they sell it how softimage packages it. So if you order from them you'll get the DVD's. The only thing is i've had problems with playback on my computers dvd drives (could play every single other dvd on there but these) but they do work fine on my tv's dvd player.
