MR MU......THANKS.... ..SCULPTURE TO PAINTING ....PAINTING TO SCULPTURE ...SUCH A DELEMA...LOL :scream: ....DECISIONS,..DECISIONS, DECISONS...:scream: ...I'M JUST TRYING TO HAVE FUN AT THIS STAGE IN MY LIFE...:bounce: :) ...THE COOKIE CAN CRUMBLE ANYWAY THAT IT WANT'S TO,... AND WHERE THE PIECES LAND, ONLY THE SHADOW KNOWS..SURELY NOT I, SAID THE SPIDER TO THE FLY...:scream: :)
I know what your saying though MR MU,...and I AGREE WITH YOU :)
Serena ...THANK YOU ... Glad you are enjoying that one..just an experiment in technique...Your right about those legs, should be bent at the joints...will add rhytum and motion to the composition...good eye you have there...THANKS
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK YOU TWO, AND EVERYONE FOR THAT MATTER...REALLY HELPS, AND IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED
Joined these three figures together, so they are now one sculpture that can be moved/rotated as one unit, and viewed, in 3d from defferent angles.
08-13-2007, 01:50 PM
AUGUST 13, 2007 ...Having some fun composing with the three figures that I just joined together as one sculpture.
08-13-2007, 03:31 PM
I love the last composition alot! It has a natural force to it......Really dynamic and fierce!
The only problem is that the wolves on the top right and left look proportionally distorted....I dunno, maybe its lookin like that to only me .....
Keep up the KOOL work :scream:
08-13-2007, 04:44 PM
AUGUST 13, 2007
Ratul ..THANKS....:) When I was joining the lighter colored figure to the other two, it got distorted a little, and started looking more like a lion to me, so I just left it that way..:scream: ..When I got the books from the library on WOLVES, I also got a couple of books on COURGARS/
MOUNTAIN LIONS and GRIZZLY BEARS ...I am thinking of making a composition with all three in it.. WOLVES, COUGARS,and GRIZZLY BEARS...Something on the lines of a RUBENS...like one of his action hunting scenes, where there are guys on horseback doing battle with all sorts of wild anamals...Check his paintings of those hunting scenes out, if you get the chance..then you'll know what i'm talking about, and where i'm coming from with this action composition that i'm thinking of doing...They are great paintings, and for sure worth a look at. Right now, I am mostly concerned with the action and the composition, more so than with the accuracy of the figures..that will work itself out in the end ..hopefully..consider these as just thumbnail sketches, that are just used to get ideas down, and out of my brain, just a place where I can work out the details of the composition.:)
Thank you for the feedback, it's always helpful, and for sure keeps me on my toes...
Changed the expression on the bottom wolks face, worked on it's leg..not so straight now, and the fur on,..both of the wolves ears,
the leg, cheeks and chest of the bottom wolf...just refining and experimenting as I go along
08-13-2007, 05:55 PM
I think it's better
I love also the blue mood....:)

Serena ..THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK  :) ...Blues are ok, but bright colors sell ..BETTER..:scream: :)

AUGUST 15, 2007 .....Well that felt pretty good..sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind, and go for it, ..life is too short to do otherwise ...:scream: :)
08-15-2007, 12:55 PM
I missed out on these updates....net wasn't working yesterday!
WOW! :bounce: The FIRY look is giving them real Fury!!
Keep updating....waiting for more innovations...
08-16-2007, 08:22 AM
VERY nice work on the wolf! I love this very strong contrast with light and shadow on your last pieces.
I wonder what this black line in the mouth of the wolf is ? Can you erase it? :D
Great work, keep it up!

AUGUST 16, 2007
Ratul ..THANKS ....:) Alot of people don't care for the intense color that I use sometimes, but hey...THAT'S ME ...:scream: Pointless and very unsatisfying trying to be someone else..:) ...MORE COLOR ON THE WAY ... :scream: :)
Thomas ...THANKS...:) .....I just plain forgot about that line, which is a hole in the mesh or something...doesn't matter when it's turned into a painting like i'm doing with these. Thanks for the feedback, and reminder..keep them coming, always helpful, needed, and much appreciated ..
Fixed the line in the mouth
08-16-2007, 02:12 PM
AUGUST 16, 2007 .....Pushing this one a little further, just to see where it goes ..:)
08-16-2007, 02:48 PM
AUGUST 16, 2007 .....A little further. :)
Wow, Glenn, I'm speechless!
Those wolves are looking amazing! I especially like the ones where there are lots of them, like the first on the August 15th. Are you going to do more than one image with them? Because I see all these compositions and they look so great.
You never cease to impress, Glenn, that's for sure.

AUGUST 16, 2007
RAZZ ...THANKS ..JUST GETTING STARTED WITH THESE WOLVES :scream: :)
Trying to find some colors and a technique that works well with them.
Taking it a day at a time, and just going where it leads me to, and learning alot as I go along..:) ...will be doing a group scene of them for sure...need to do a little more experimenting first...:)
THANKS for stopping by RAZZ, ALWAYS a pleasure hearing from you
Came full circle with this one..back to the blues...no escapeing them I guess..But I sure have fun trying LOL.:scream:
08-16-2007, 04:48 PM
Hi Glenn :)
Great wolves! I'm reading the Lord of the Rings to the kids at home... something about these
made me think of the Wargs.. the way they hang around at the bottom of the tree waiting...
08-16-2007, 07:12 PM
I really like the last version of the wolf! This blue is great ! I don't like the orange light version's eyes ... try to use some dark color for them... this might give the wolf a more realisitc look ... for me this glowing eyes are not working with the orange ... better: the glow color isn't working with the orange light :)
Keep it up!
08-17-2007, 12:44 AM
Great job on the last one Glenn! Great to see you do some cold colours as well as the warmer tones! Love the depth to it! MORE!
Thanks again Glenn!
At first I couldn't find the fight poses you were talking about, as I was looking at posts #87-88. Then I noticed you have 120 pages of stuff in this thread!! Why haven't I ever noticed that before? :D
Well, anyways, really cool fighting poses, the back kick in the post #1315 is very similar to epigeri in TAIDO (both are Japanese combat arts) I used to practise some years back. No much pelvis movement in the front kicks, wery much like Wing Tsun, expec it seems you lean forwards a bit when doing the kick wich is a big no no in WT.
Damn you have a great and helful thread here. Some day I'll read throught the whole thing :)

Annette ...THANKS ....Put this one together this morning, with you and your kids in mind...thanks for the inspiration ...:)
Thomas ...THANKS ...Always need that critical eye of yours...great eye there ..right as usual ..THANKS
Magdalena ...THANK YOU ...Kind of torn between the warm and the cools...Only one solution....DO BOTH ... :scream: ..END OF PROBLEM ..LOL :scream:
Jho ...THANK YOU ...The idea with KARATE, is POWER AND FORWARD THRUST...ONE BLOW DOES THE JOB...No time for all that fancy dancing around stuff...LOL :scream:
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK ..EVERYONE..
HAVING FUN THIS MORNING ..:)
08-17-2007, 05:44 PM
Hey Glenn!! Nice compositions with the wolves!!... btw, congrats on crossing your 100th page!! :applause::applause:
Hm... it's only 39 pages here :)
but every page is a treasure really...
08-18-2007, 11:20 AM
very nice composition! I like the wolfes a lot, also the dragon fits into the piece. I think the figure riding the dragon does not fit to the image ... first of all this figure looks still very blurred in perspective ... he looks flat ... like a piece of paper ... (hope you understand what I mean) and then I think the lightning on the figure is not like the light on the dragon ... it seems like the shadow of the dragon is missing ?
Looking at this piece brought me the idea of CONTRAST ... try to use a red tone for the eyes ... I think using the orange / yellow eyes you used for the orange wolfes might be work very nice in the blue light version. Just give it a try :)
Keep at it !

AUGUST 18, 2007
Anand ..THANK YOU... ...Enough pages for a book maybe...If only I had the ambition for it ..LOL..TOO MUCH WORK...
Johan ....THANKS ... ...This ENTIRE forum is loaded with treasures,..both in words, and in images,...Probably someday, somebody will put it all together, make a great book from it all, and get rich selling it..after we are all dead no dought ..LOL :scream: ...SEEMS TO BE THE WAY IT USUALLY WORKS IN THIS WORLD...:scream: :)
Thomas ...THANKS.. ...I just threw that dragon and rider into the scene, to see what it would look like, and because Annette sparked the idea with her saying that the wolves reminded her of the WARGS in Lord of the Rings, so I am surprized that it fit as well as it did, seeing how it was from another totally different painting, with a different lighting senerio..but that is how ideas evolve sometimes ..:)
I like your idea for some contrast of color in the wolves..gave it a shot on the version posted below..also tried to get the dragon and rider to look more at home in the scene..created a whole new mood I think..:)
THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK ..EVERYONE,...REALLY HELPS..
Pushing this version a little further
08-18-2007, 02:28 PM
Nice composition. maybe it needs a bit of background, for now its pretty hard to say where the dragon flies...behind them, above them or in front of them. Considering the scale of the man and wolves I would say the dragon is behind them, but the tail of the dragon is in front of them.
I prefer the blue over the red actually...Feels more natural. Good job on the wolves, nice detailing.
impressive achievement on the 100 pages indeed ;)
good luck with this piece
08-18-2007, 04:46 PM
AUGUST 18, 2007
Bart....THANKS ..:) ..Your right about the dragons tail..makes it hard to judge scale and distance. I also prefer the blue, no red in mouth and red glowing eyes, but it was a fun experiment, and that's the only way to find out what works, and what doesn't,.. sometimes.:)
Got rid of the end of the dragons tail...and at the same time got rid of alot of the hard edges of the wolves...putting some air blowing, and adding to the atmosphere..gives the scene more unity I think and hope..Also put shadow on the riders hair, making him look further back in the atmosphere...and put a blue tint on the whole scene, unifying the colors .Calling this version done, for the moment anyway.
More wolves to compose, and experiment with..need to get back into the Z BRUSH program and learn more,..and practice more what I have learned so far before I forget how to do what I have just learned.
08-19-2007, 11:22 AM
Ehi ehi ehi, the last idea (wolves-dragon mix) rocks. I'm curios to see which solution you'll develop !
Your modelling skills are improving excessively!
I am not sure what you are trying to pull off with these experiments. Are you trying to portray mood? A defying composition?
One crit I have with this is that the models seem to stretch awkwardly and the lighting on some of the compositions seem out of place. Repeating models also hurts the visual as the eye spots the similarity almost instantly. Not saying repeated models are bad, just not my thing :D
The two wolves coloured orange is a good one. The wolves may be a little too close together as the edges are creating extra imagery (unless this was intented?).

AUGUST 19, 2007
Serena ..THANKS ...:) ...Just having some fun along the way...I'm aiming for an action scene and composition that contains wolves, grizzly bears,courars/mountain lions and american bison/buffalo..I want to do an action scene along the lines and similar to that of the RUBENS action hunting scene paintings that I have seen pictures of in books about his paintings...I have this vision in my mind of a confrontation between the charaters that I mentioned above..so I am developeing and exploring these different charaters, and their different charateristics, in preperation for this composition /action painting that I have in mind...been in/on my mind for a long time now...will give me a chance to put what I am learning in the Z BRUSH program to good use..:)
Andrew....THANKS...There willl be a lot of mistakes made along the way...but that is what sketchbooks, experiments and explorations are for, and are all about...:) Thank you for the opinion, crits and suggestions...ALWAYS HELPFUL, AND VERY MUCH APPECEATED..
This morning I am adding a GRIZZLY BEAR to my cast of Z BRUSH characters..creating / morphing it out of the wolf character that I just created..Similar enough in structure to pull it of I think..So far it is taken fom my imagination and memory, but will be refined using photo refferences,...but using them only as an aid in the study of the fine details..not copying them ..:)
08-19-2007, 03:05 PM
AUGUST 19, 2007 .....Start of a GRIZZLY BEAR..Created from a WOLF :scream: http://artbyglenngallegos.com/images/GRIZZLY_BEAR_1.jpg
08-19-2007, 08:33 PM
AUGUST 19, 2007 ...Working on the proportions,..still working only from imagination and memory..saving the refferences for last, want to project my own feelings into the creation right from the start, will worry about details at the end..:)
08-20-2007, 10:01 AM
First of all ... the attempt with the red eyes in the blue lightning wasn't working ... sorry ;)
This grizzley out of the wolf is a very nice idea ... great that you take the same mesh and push it further ... first a dog ... then a wolf ... then a grizzly ... next a tree or so ;)
I don't like his legs/feet ;)
Keep this great work up!
08-20-2007, 12:16 PM
AUGUST 20, 2007
Thomas ...THANKS...:) ...LOL..NO TREE..:scream: ...After the GRIZZLY, comes the COUGAR / MOUNTAIN LION...Made from the WOLF mesh. Then an AMERICAN BISON ...Made from the RHINO model mesh....Then a RUBENS type of composition with all of these ENDANGERED SPIECIES in it... :)
Hey that one that you suggested the glowing eyes ect. for...Was a fun experiment, even if it didn't work on that particular piece..I still leared some things from it..THAT'S WHAT REALLY COUNTS, MORE THAN IT'S SUCCESS..TO ME ANYWAY...:) ...So keep those suggestions, opinions, and crits coming..VERY HELPFUL TO ME, AND ALWAYS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED...
Still working on proportions...made head, and paws bigger...Starting to resemble a GRIZZLY more I think...Lots more left to do on it, but hey...i'ts better than it was yesterday.. ...ONE DAY AT A TIME ..:)
08-20-2007, 03:57 PM
the mouth looks a litle bit confusing ... the rest of it becomes more of a grizzly :) Just keep on going :)
hey the evolution dog ->wolf ->bear sounds pretty logical now that you mention it.
would make a great animation :)
Actually I kinda liked the red eyes and mouth... kinda enforced the feeling of danger they already had...
08-21-2007, 12:52 PM
AUGUST 21, 2007
Thomas ...THANKS....I'll put teeth, lips ect. in detail as I go along...mainly just trying to get the proportions and feel of the GRIZZLY BEAR down, before I get into too much detail..kind of like when you block in a painting...same thing with sculpture..:)
Johan ..THANKS ...It's possible to morph just about any kind of critter from those models that come with the new Z BRUSH program.just takes a little imagination, and a little pushing and pulling ..:scream: ..I like some of the effect in the red mouths glowing eyes in that one painting that you mentioned..can always be taken further...I have all of the versions saved...I learn a little something from each one, and usually end up using little things in them that I like about them,.. in future paintings.
THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK GUYS..
Exploring composition this morning...will have the bison laying on it's side where the rocks are at the moment...that is as soon as I make the bison...:scream: :)
08-21-2007, 02:28 PM
AUGUST 21, 2007 ...Exploring the lighting for this composition ..:)
08-21-2007, 03:08 PM
Nice effort with the colors, but something doesn't stick well here... I think the stone in front draws too much attention. It's a bit over-shiny imho. I like the fade out light effect on the wolves, but the last blue wolf is a bit off the composition.
Hope i didn't disappoint you. Just trying to help! :D
08-21-2007, 06:11 PM
The bear is WOW......Your evolutionary creature is a really innovative idea....
08-22-2007, 10:15 AM
I always asked myself ... what is this stuff in front of the bear? You are using this sort of whatever from time to time ... I always tell myself than ... its a stone ... I really thing it is one. But I don't like the look of it .... there are to many reflections ... maybe try a not this strong reflecting structure ... might bring something new to your images :)
08-22-2007, 11:18 AM
AUGUST 22, 2007
Dionysis ..THANKS ....:) ....That too shiny of a rock is as I explained up on the picture above that frame...an AMERICIAN BISON...I just put the rock in it's place to get an idea of the lighting for this composition that I am working on ..That frame was just about composing the lighting...a very important element in any composistion, and one that should always be thought out ahead of time..It's even more important than the placement of the forms that make up the composition...CREATES THE ...MOOD/FEELING..:)
Ratul ...THANKS ..:) ....Now all I have to do, is turn an AFRICAN RHINO into an AMERICAN BISON, and an AMERICAN WOLF into AN AMERICAN COURAR/MOUNTAIN LION :scream:
Thomas...THANKS....:) ...It's an ever changing STONE that I created....makes a great fantasy base for sculptures ect....can be totally clear crystal, or multi colored quartze, or whatever I desire it to be,.. in the form of rock,... to suit whatever piece I happen to be working on at the moment..:scream: :)
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK EVERYONE...GREAT TO HAVE IT,...IT REALLY HELPS, AND IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED...
Working on figure placement, creating composition this morning...Want a triangle composition, for stability, to frame the figures within it...Top of triangle is the bears head,...side angles are the outside shoulder angles of the bear, and the upper wolve...Within the triangle, I want a circular composistion, created by the actions of the figures themselves, ... to CREATE..MOTION.
The AFRICAN RHINO, will be turnrd into an AMERICAN BISON, and then I just have to figure out where to place the COUGAR..which I still have to create, by morphing the wolve that I just created...:scream:
08-22-2007, 12:18 PM
AUGUST 22. 2007 .......LIGHTING STUDY ..:)
08-22-2007, 12:30 PM
Hey Glenn, this composition looks great!
You should work on the rhinos pose, think of gravity ;)
08-22-2007, 12:33 PM
your idea is BIG or better word EPIC.it shows the biggest priciple of nature "survival of the fittest" with ease.waitin for the animal tranformations to happen
respect and regards
08-22-2007, 03:37 PM
I love this last concept and the composition with the basic triangle and the external circle. For this last I suggest you to gently twist the head of the america bison (the actual rhino) more to our right-up (in direction of the wolves). This will enhance the sensation of circular view and will add - in my opinion- dramatic feelings
08-23-2007, 11:09 AM
AUGUST 23, 2007
Thomas ....THANKS ..:) ....I will start that rhino transformation this morning...and will for sure be thinking about gravity..:)
Amrinder ..THANKS ...:) ...You've hit it right on the nose, so to speak..
Serena ...THANKS ...:) I like that IDEA that you just suggested ..
THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK ..EVERYONE..VERY HELPFUL, AND ALSO VERY MUCH APPRECIATED ..
Just capturing a passing thought...ALL of the battles have ALWAYS been about and over the CONTOL of EARTH,.... FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER..
08-23-2007, 10:03 PM
AUGUST 23, 2007 .....Taking the AFRICAN RHINO model that comes with the new version of Z BRUSH, and turning it into an AMERICAN BISON, to be used in the painting that i'm working on ..posted above.
Just blocking in the basic shape and proportions of the BISON to start with...details will come last...From my imagination and memory so far, will consult photo refferences for fine details if need be ..LATER.

AUGUST 24, 2007 ....LIGHTING STUDY
08-25-2007, 01:49 AM
Cool! I like it.
08-25-2007, 02:23 AM
cool stuff! Just curious, will you be painting over them after you have finished compositing?
08-25-2007, 10:24 AM
don't place all the wolves i nthe foreground. For me this piece looks like there is too much in it. Place more wolves in the beackground like they are running towards the grizzly. I think this would make the image much more interresting ... oh and maybe you could play with the format of this piece ... make it a little more panorama like ... :D
Keep it up!
08-25-2007, 01:19 PM
AUGUST 25, 2007
Pushav....THANKS ..:) ...MORE TO COME ..JUST GETTING STARTED ..:scream:
Louis ....THANKS ..:) ....I am experimenting with developeing a technique of painting these Z BRUSH EXPERIMENTS. I want a painting style for these that I can truely call my own, and feel comfortable in doing so...:)
Thomas ..THANKS FOR THE CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK ..:)
I will see what a little dramatic lighting can do to relieve the crowded feeling that you mentioned...will try to pick out with light, just the essenuals, and throw the rest into shadow...Going for a RUBENS type of action composition here....His are loaded with figures and actions in the forground...popping right out of the picture plane at the viewer...His hunting scene paintings are the works of his that I am referring to..
THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK EVERYONE...REALLY HELPS, AND MUCH APPRECEATED...
A little more work done this morning on this version...lots more work left to do,...learning more with each version that I do...:) .DRAMATIC, DYMAMIC LIGHTING NEXT.
08-25-2007, 02:56 PM
AUGUST 25, 2007 .....LIGHTING ...Will start to pick details out from the shadows next, where needed, and continue to refine what needs to be refined...Starting to get closer to the the feeling and mood that I am after in this one...LOTS LEFT TO DO THOUGH, BUT GETTING THERE, SLOWLY BUT SURELY, ... ONE DAY AT A TIME ..:)
08-25-2007, 03:01 PM
hey SD san
you know i'v been just feelin to say this but i didnt said this cuz i thought i mite sound rude or someone trying to advice you which isnt for sure but dont you think i wud look more cooler if bisons legs are let limp with gravity instead of being left stiff also i feel like you just stack other animals over each other when you arrange them cuz it makes the bison and others look like a plastic toys to me and somehow ruins the whole effect..just givin my honest thot and i hav no idea if you plan to change them in PS/Painter so...if you can model such detail then i dont think going little further would be difficult at all for you
respect and regards
08-25-2007, 11:47 PM
Hi ....Amrinder...:) ..Thanks for the suggestion...will see what I can do..:)
If you read what is written, then you will know where i'm going and what I have in mind...details like bent legs ect. will be last..That last frame was just about lighting, and nothing else as was written....I am happy with the composition...seems perfectly ballanced to me at the moment, which is no small feat for so many figures..It has the action and movement that I am after. Wolves and other predators that are in packs like lions ect., tend to pile up and climb over each other in an attemp to get their share of the meal....ALSO, when an anamal is being eaten while still alive, which is the case here and will be clear when I PUT THE DETAILS IN THE BISON..THAT ANAMAL IS FAR FROM LIMP...MORE LIKE STIFF FROM SHOCK...Which will be seen in the eye of the BISON... SOON :)
I really appreceate your honest opinion, which is correct as the work stands at the moment,..but it is a work in progress at the moment, and will be refined as I go along...It's not a one two three and it's done in one day kind of painting..I never work that way, and have never had the desire to work that way...THAT'S JUST NOT ME ...THE END RESULTS ARE WHAT MATTER TO ME,...NOT THE SPEED IN WHICH IT TOOK TO DO IT ...:)
TAKE CARE, and THANKS AGAIN for YOUR HONEST OPINION..ALWAYS HELPFUL, AND ALSO AS SAID EARLIER, VERY MUCH APPRECEATED..
08-26-2007, 03:14 AM
AUGUST 21, 2007 ......Worked on the BISON , and the shadows in the forground...will pick details out of the darkness as I go along..:)
08-26-2007, 09:46 AM
yes i understand completly that this kind of stuff takes lot of time and honestly right now where i stand in this field.. i cant do it i know...
waiting to see where this leads too
with utmost respect for you
08-26-2007, 02:10 PM
HAHA I love the bison's eye ... very funny! This looks as if the bison is still alive andwatching what the guys on it are doing "hey guys get off from me I am not here to be treaten just to be eaten!" :D
What about textures glenn? I think this might be a piece to attempt a little bit more on texture work. Also I would like to see this scene in a different composition ... make the image longer to the left and build in a few wolves running towards the bison ;)
By the way, I think the lightning works great... the scene does not feel as if there are to many characters... good job :)
Keep it up!

AUGUST 26, 2007
Amrinder ...THANKS...Your opinions and suggestions, along with everyone elses, force me to go that much further with my work..if not for those crits, I would probably just say..ok, ..good enough...LOL..:scream:
And don't ever mind about getting me offended or angry...even though I do have a temper about the same as that old GRIZZLY BEAR at times, ..I never bite those who are trying to help me...improve my work...:)..After all, we are all here to learn from each other..doesn't matter what level of learning we are at, we still learn from each other..which is the greatest thing about this forum...:)
Thomas..THANKS ..LOVE that idea of expanding the composition... A middle ground, and distant background might really add to the depth of the piece... ...Also, I will for sure try out some fancy textures on this piece...can't get enough of that experimenting and exploring with new toys..:scream:
THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK GUYS...MUCH APPRECEATED...
Taking some time out to play this morning..trying to get the bull to get in that pre charging position,..where they lower their head and scracth the dirt with their front hoof...just threw the bear in there at the last moment, so the bull would have somthing to charge at..:)
08-27-2007, 03:22 AM
AUGUST 26, 2007 .....ANOTHER YEAR OLDER TODAY:eek: , OR IS IT YOUNGER..:scream: ANYWAY,WHICH EVER WAY IT GOES,.. I'M STILL PLAYING, AND HAVING FUN..:)
AUGUST 26, 2007 .....ANOTHER YEAR OLDER TODAY
Happy Birthday Glenn!
You're only as old as you feel, right?
I hope you'll make it a nice one :D
Loving these little adventures you are making here. I was at a huuge expo about Leonardo da Vinci and some contempory artists of him yesterday and I saw what must have been one of the first comic tales, made by Dürer, although the term comic isn't appropriate, it's more of a short story using images...
Somehow I think your thread is like an illustrated novel, different chapters, different characters, different stories fold into one big tale, but always colorful and exciting :)
Have a nice one!

AUGUST 27, 2007
Johan ....THANK YOU VERY MUCH ...;)
You know, I saw that Leonardo DaVinci expo when it was in Boston a few years ago..FANTASTIC...GREAT MEMORY...That Madona of the Rocks painting still sticks in my mind and imagination...PURE MAGIC..;) ...The amount of CREATIVITY he had in him, is unbelievable, until actually seen, and it will never be matched I think...THANKS FOR REFRESHING MY MEMORY OF THAT EVENT, AND MAN...Johan...GREAT BIRTH DAY PRESENT... :)
08-27-2007, 03:10 PM
Hey Glenn, Happy Birthday for yesterday!! Of course it's a year younger!:D You are doing such nice work on your animals. So much to take and it's been a while since I stopped by. Keep up the great work!:applause:
08-27-2007, 03:10 PM
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :applause::cool:
Keep enlightening us with your great artwork..............
PS. Why don't we have such expos in INDIA?? :banghead:
Another year of learning
You got under your belt
To satisfy your yearning
Which since childhood you felt
For making what's within you
Step out into the light
And reach out with your mind to
Beyond the line of sight
Where "dreaming" equals "knowing"
And "playing" means "to see"
Where all of us are going
To be who we should be.
08-27-2007, 06:46 PM
first of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY for yesterday ;) Seems like I am too late ... well sorry ;)
On your last piece the wolf does not fit... the color light, everything is different... this does not work :)
But I like the image before... the composition of the grizzly and bison is nice :)
Keep up the great work and the nice comments in our all threads also in your next year of life :)

Samanthie ...THANK YOU..MY MIND STILL FEELS YOUNG, BUT MY BODY...WELL THAT'S ANOTHER STORY...:banghead:
Ratul ....THANK YOU ....Will do the best that I can do. Hope I leave something behind that is worthwhile to someone down the road of enlightenment...:) ..Don't know why that Leonardo DaVinci expo has not made it to INDIA ...YET ....Alot of GREAT artist in your part of the world...Now that you have mentioned it, maybe it will show up in INDIA ...You just never know who's listening...;)
MR MU....WOW :bounce: CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THAT POEM, BUT I WILL SURELY TRY, BEFORE I DIE...HEY THAT LAST PART RHYMES..MUST BE CONTAGIOUS.... ...THANK YOU ..MR MU,...MEANS ALOT TO ME...
Thomas ...THANK YOU...ALWAYS GREAT TO HEAR FROM YOU...EAGLE EYE..:D ...NOW I HAVE TO TRY AND MAKE IT WORK, ..JUST TO SHOW YOU THAT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, IF YOU JUST ..TRY .. :scream:
THANK YOU EVERYONE, REALLY MADE MY DAY ..A PLEASURE
More fun with this one...will make that a white bison in the end, to go with the wolf....might make the bear a light golden color ..not sure yet.
I find that if I just play, well one idea always has a way of leading to another idea. While what is happening in a current piece, may not work in that piece,...it usually works in another piece down the road...EXPERIMENTING WHILE EXPLORING,,,MANY FAILURES ALONG THE WAY,...BUT SUCCESS IN THE END...HOPEFULLY
08-28-2007, 12:18 AM
hi spiritdreamer, happy late birthday :)
your an amazing artist O: , your modeling is very good!
I like a lot the pic of the Bison. I like how you put a lot of animals together like about to fight between each other to get some food. It adds a lot to the picture since thats how animals behave after they hunt ( at least on discovery channel XD ) I would love to see it finished :)
08-28-2007, 12:48 AM
OH GLENN - HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!
08-28-2007, 08:36 AM
Heiiiii tanti auguriii!!
Happy birthday man ! :bounce::bounce::bounce:
I really love the composition of august 21 ! I can see them in the dust fighting for the bison :bounce:
08-28-2007, 11:18 AM

Caos ...THANK YOU.... ....Letting that painting that you mentioned sit and simmer for a few moments..will taste better when I go back and finish it...:scream:
HEY....Magdalena ....THANK YOU ...Wish that I HAD BEEN IN AMSTERDAM SO THAT I COULD HAVE CELEBRATED IT PROPERLY....:bounce: WITHOUT THE FEAR OF BEING THROWN IN JAIL:eek: ...LOL ...:scream::)
Serena ...THANK YOU ... I think that one has the most figures in it that I have ever tried to compose into one painting..learned, and am still learning alot from that one...REALLY GLAD THAT YOU LIKE IT..:)
MARK....THANK YOU ....NO SLIPAGE INTENDED...JUST ANOTHER DAY THAT SLIPPED ON BY..NOW IS ALL THERE IS.:)
THANK YOU EVERYONE...MADE THIS NEW DAY...VERY PLEASURABLE

AUGUST 28, 2007
Anand ...THANK YOU ...I HAD A GREAT DAY IN THE COMPANY OF MRS SPIRIT DREAMER...ALWAYS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME ..:)
Made alot of changes on this one...it has to fit into a square format to go on tiles, and little treasure type of boxes for a store that it is going into..still have the previous rectangle version...which will be made into posters ect...:)
08-29-2007, 10:18 AM
AUGUST 29, 2007 .....Back to the horizontal rectangle ..worked on teeth refinements..I kind of like this version..Think I will call it done..MAYBE..:)
08-29-2007, 12:10 PM
I can't understand which I love most.
the light on this last one is awesome.... it's like a dream where you find all of your totems fighting each other. Like a silent nightmare... but beautiful.
08-30-2007, 07:06 PM
AUGUST 30, 2007
Serena ...THANKS ...The GREAT thing about digital, is that it allows you to have it both ways...:scream: :)
MR MU ...THANKS ...A little on the dark side, in more ways than one...but hey... what would light be without dark.. :)
My start of the 3d sculpting workshop that Magdalena / Intervane just started....OLD PEOPLE..THEME....Using a photo out of a book of a drawing by DaVinci...first time I have tried this..very interesting trying to see and visulize what is not shown in the 2d photo...:scream:
08-30-2007, 09:01 PM
How lucky we are eh? :wise:
I already love the subject. Can't wait to see its progress !
Lol... do you know what I was just thinking as I first saw your new sculpt? This old man has been sitting so long in the same pose, now that he is lifting his right leg from his left, the calf of the right leg is sticking to the other leg and it comes of with a freaky
Hehe no worries I'm ok ;)
It must be great to be able to actually create in 3D what only there in 2D. I think that is exactly the thing what makes 3D sculpting so interesting. I will try it for sure at some point in my life, maybe when ZBrush 10 comes around the corner :D
Have fun! Looking forward to this one!
08-31-2007, 06:35 PM
AUGUST 31, 2007
Serena ...THANK YOU ...ME TOO...NEVER TRIED THIS BEFORE...:scream:
Johan ...LOL :scream: ...THANKS...That torn leg muscle  will be a piece of cloth in te end...MAYBE ..LOL :scream:
Subdevided it a couple of times, and started working on the forms of the ...CLOTH, AND FIGURE ..:)
08-31-2007, 08:30 PM
Hi Glenn, great exploration of the different animals in Zbrush. I'm curious to see how that old man is going to turn out. Good start anyway. Keep going!
09-01-2007, 01:10 AM
Excellent work on this Glenn, I am really impressed with how quickly he is coming along. Looking forward to following your progress!
09-01-2007, 04:45 AM
AUGUST 31, 2007
Bart ...THANK YOU....Just having alot of fun doing them, and also learning alot as I go along...keeps the old MIND and SPIRIT ..YOUNG...and also prevents the RUST from taking over...:)
Still blocking in the forms on this guy...before I subdevide and smooth him out a little.
09-01-2007, 07:47 AM
O: the old people theme pic, is looking great! it must be very difficult to create all those wrinkles of the skin in 3d . Like your other pic, I'm looking forward to see it finished :)
09-01-2007, 03:26 PM
nice work so far on this model! Can you show us it from all different angels the next time ( front etc.)? I am nearly sure you have got the same problem you had with your dragon rider that your model looks flat. We must find a way to correct this to make it look better ;)
I think that Bison should not look at the grizzly ... for me this does not fit ... but nice work on the rest :)
Keep it up!
09-01-2007, 06:20 PM
MMM I think you are adding "gentleness" to the subject. If you want to respect Leo's types, remember that he was used to describe men with incredible fierce.
A quick sample :
On the other hand, if your wish is to obtain an old gentleman, you are on the right way!
09-02-2007, 12:03 AM
Caos ....THANKS ..:) ...all of the new brushes in Z BRUSH, make it just like sculpting with clay,...wrinkles become easy when the right brush is at hand..:)
Serena ....THANKS ....He did about every emotion and expression that there is,..some very blatant, and some so subtle that people are still trying to figure them out..the MONA LISA being one of them..:)
Old age is the theme of Magdalena's work shop...the drawing I went with seemed to be perfect for that theme I think..He looks to me like he has seen it all, and is contemplating what has been, and what is coming..his END...knowing DaVinci, THAT TREE HE IS LEANING AGAINST, IS PROBABLY THE ...TREE OF LIFE ..:)
Thomas ...THANKS ....:) ...Still have a month to go on this latest venture ...so plenty of time for refinements..:)
The bear , bison , and wolf one...want the bison alive, as he is being eaten...just the way nature works .. :scream:
Top one is my reference
A little more work on mine
09-02-2007, 12:35 AM
SEPT 1, 2007.....A little more work on the head, face and hands.
09-02-2007, 09:14 AM
Ohhh yes I got the subject now, thank you for posting your reference
I think you already got the whole composition and subject, the single thing I can tell you with my tiny little invisible experience with zb is to pose his right hand : he is bringing his walking stick, on which he poses the jaw too...maybe better to start them now, isn't it?
Good work man, can't wait to see updates !
09-02-2007, 11:29 AM
I think this guy on your reference is sitting more straight than your model. Also his right leg is a little bit more on the top of his left leg and not going to the side this strong.
I have not read the workshop assignment but I think you are trying to get is as best as possible on the reference ? Just some general things I noticed ;)
Keep it up!
09-02-2007, 12:49 PM
SEPT 02, 2007
Serena ...THANKS ..:) Will do that walking stick next..want to make sure that everything is lined up properly first before I stick it in there.:)
Thomas ...THANKS..I need that eagle eye of yours on this one...I noticed that posture problem also...will have to give him a push in the back, to straighten him up I think..:scream: ...Having a hard time getting that facial epression to express the emotion that DaVinci captured..If I move those lips even just a hair, it changes the whole emotion portrayed..What a MASTER he was, is becoming very clear, as I try my hand at recreating one of his works.. ..Learning alot from him, while doing this study , and that is what really counts the most in the end.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK YOU TWO,..MUCH NEEDED, AND MUCH APPRECEATED..
A little further along
09-02-2007, 10:43 PM
Sept 2, 2007
Just trying to catch the essence of Davinci's drawing. Posted that image earlier
09-02-2007, 11:27 PM
i hadnt been on net for past sometime so i didnt get to see other peoples sB's (an wen i came i only posted my update and went :D) i came back just to see your work and im glad i came.your final render on beast wars looks great..that bison is definatly in shock :D and your new workshop idea is great.i really love how you involve crystals in your artwork at times..
09-03-2007, 03:43 AM
SEPT 02, 2007
Amrinder ...THANK YOU ..:) Glad you saw the shock in that bison..a hard emotion to capture sometimes. Also glad that you like those rocks...they make a great base for these scultures I think...:)
Put in some atmosphere and refined the lighting...just experimenting with the mood and emotion that it creates...stronger than a ton of details I think..but that is just my personal opinion though....:)
09-03-2007, 07:08 AM
I love the last colorscheme but, if I can suggest you a thing, I think you should invert light/shadows position in order to have the face in light with maximum constrast
09-03-2007, 07:47 AM
your work on daVinci-substrat is simply g-r-e-a-t
and last but not least: your colourz/palettes on bear/bison skizzes are ultra, dude....I love it...
best wishezzz, man :)
09-03-2007, 10:22 AM
Hi brother! long time no see, hehe. I love this work, the lighting. Have fun and enjoy!
09-03-2007, 11:37 AM
Iīm following your progress man and still enjoying your approach to digital scultping. Itīs easy to see your anatomy skill emerging in the figure... keep posting any update.
And about your last image: I just donīt know if this bronze type material itīs the best for your compostion. Any special reason to use this?!
09-03-2007, 12:35 PM
I think the last colour scheme on the DaVinci piece is great! I agree with what others said that separate meshes help but I still think you're doing a great job keeping it as one! I would love to see you refine that foot of his a bit more as well as the hands - just give them more volume and realistic shape! Keep going Glenn
I think that strictly working from a master's reference is taking your modelling onto a whole new level, right now.
What would Leonardo have said, I wonder, about this strangely unsubstantial form of clay? :)
P.S.: though there's still the chance of prototyping the model...:D
09-03-2007, 04:17 PM
SEPT 03, 2007
Abyssis ....THANK YOU..HEY, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN..GOOD I HOPE...:)
Agnaldo...HEY COUSIN..THANK YOU...About the bronze...just thought that this would make a great little bronze statue, in real like, so I went for it...:scream:
Magdalena ...THANK YOU ...Not sure about the one piece sculpture, seems to be going against the grain of the way everybody is doing theirs..but then again, I never wanted to be like everybody else..LOL :scream:
Only one good solution to this delema that I can think of,...LEARN HOW TO DO IT BOTH WAYS ...So that's what I intend on doing..:)
HEY MR MU ...THANK YOU ....You know, I have been wondering what he would think, ever since I started this piece,..still wondering..:scream:
I think he might like it, if the end result were a bronze statue that he could pick up and touch, while he explored it's surface, this approach being more in tune with his nature ..:)
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK ..EVERYONE, REALLY APPECEATE IT, and ALSO REALLY NEED IT..ALWAYS HELPS TAKE MY WORK ..FURTHER ...
Worked on the hands and feet, and also started experimenting and exploring with the lighting a little more in the Z BRUSH program.
Next step, make his cane as a seperate object, refine it, and place it.
09-04-2007, 03:00 AM
really like how this latest one is turning out.
09-04-2007, 12:05 PM
SEPT 04, 2007
MARK....THANK YOU......Still just trying to learn this Z BRUSH program..:scream: ....HAVING LOTS OF FUN WITH IT :)
Working on the cloth.
09-05-2007, 03:09 AM
SEPT 04, 2007.....Next step...I smoothed out that heavy raking texture just as I would on a realife sculpture made from clay...leaving some of the deeper folds in place..makes for a nice cloth effect ..I think ? :) ....still lots left to do.. :)
09-05-2007, 06:29 AM
Wonderful use of digital sculpture man! ZBrush seems like an awesome program... I'll have to give it a whirl if/when I can afford it...
09-05-2007, 02:09 PM
I do prefer the second attempt for the clothes. The first one was looking like a heavy fabric made of fur, or something similar.
And Glenn, what about the proportion of the legs? I donīt know itīs because of the cameraīs perspective, but her left leg (calf portion) looks too short. Take a look and tell me if Iīm wrong, Ok?!
Thatīs it. Keep working.
Wow, Glenn, this one's turning out really great! Your Z work is getting better with your each new piece, that's more than a plesure to see :) The updates on the 3rd of September look the best to me for now. I assume you're not going for an exact copy of the original sketch by Da Vinci (it's Da Vinci's right? The sketch does look like his), but there's something bothering me about his legs, their length maybe. It's hard to tell because it looks different from every angle. But looking at the original the leg looks shorter. It shouldn't be hard to to experiment with the length by going to the first subdivision level and pushing around.
Looking forward to see what you'll make of it. I'll be watching :bounce:
09-05-2007, 08:35 PM
SEPT 05, 2007
CRAZY DUDE....THANKS..:) ...GREAT PROGRAM FOR SURE...PURE MAGIC IN FACT..OPENS UP A WHOLE NEW FRONTIER, WITH ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES..:)
Agnaldo ...THANKS ...That rough texture was just to build up the surface for more depth, then when you smooth it out a little, some of the depth remains....Your right about the lenght of that lower leg..it changes with the position of the pose..in the final pose, I will just stretch it out if it is too short..whatever works, works...:)
HEY ..RAZZ ...GRAT TO HEAR FROM YOU, AND THANKS...:)
I will get as close to the original as I can..in MOOD/FEELING anyway..that's what I am really after on this one...It wasn't the details that caught my eye when I saw this drawing, ..it was the MOOD/FEELING that it projected..:)
About the legs...will be right in the end...hopefully.:scream:
Worked on his cane today...not to happy with it...will try a new one out tommarrow....just experimenting , exploring, learning, and mostly just having fun..:)
09-05-2007, 11:54 PM
Wow, Glenn he is looking wonderful. It already has a terrific, dark mood.
09-06-2007, 01:38 PM
SEPT 06, 2007
Samanthie...THANK YOU ...Just having fun experimenting, and exploring the possibles with DaVinci's drawing using this modern technoligy..and wondering as I go along as to what he would have been able to do with it, if he were ever able to get his hands on it.. :)
A little lighting experiment this morning.
09-07-2007, 05:52 AM
SEPT 07, 2007.....Finally got his walking stick built and placed...He's now one unit with a walking stick, and can be spun around to work more on , and viewed from all angles...:)
09-07-2007, 10:26 AM
I wanted to take a quick look at what you have done on this model, can you give him the push in the back? :D Are you going on a new texture attempt on this one?
Sorry, not time for longer explenations ;)
09-07-2007, 03:46 PM
SEPT 07, 2007
Thomas ...THANKS FOR STOPPING BY ...:) ....Not sure where I'm going with this....JUST GOING ..WHERE MY INSTINCT LEADS ME :scream: :)
Just playing around with a different perspective and mood this morning.
09-07-2007, 04:49 PM
I haven't been able to be active in the community....but I've been viewing all the sketchbooks and also keeping track of the sculpting workshop....what amazing work is being displayed.....
Your old man is looking great! The thing that distinguishes you from the other participants is your experimentation with lighting and stuff.....keep it up.....
looking forward to see more experiments and a more finished sculpt...
09-08-2007, 06:18 AM
SEPT 08, 2007
Ratul ...THANK YOU ...Being a painter at heart, I feel a little out of place in there with all of those GREAT 3D anamators...But hey,The way I look at it,..nobody has a monopoly on Z BRUSH, or CREATIVITY. So I just keep experimenting, exploring, and using what I do know, to have fun with what I don't know, and hopefully learn alot in the process..:)
Just a little color and lighting study.
09-08-2007, 09:45 AM
I liked the composition of SEPT 07, 2007 , great perspective :) Maybe you should just try and attempt on some other camera angels? :D I think one from above might be interresting, and one from the shoulder? Might become very interresting :)
Keep at it!
09-08-2007, 09:06 PM
!SEPT 05, 2007!
...I simply LOVE U 4 this awsome colour-experiment
09-09-2007, 12:26 AM
Hey Glenn, outstanding work! The lighting is dramatic and also lovely. You have taken this one piece and made it have several different moods just by changing the lighting. It's fun to watch!:bounce:
Oh and I like what you did with the new version of the cane.:)
09-09-2007, 03:27 AM
SEPT 08, 2007
Thomas .....THANK YOU ...I will end up with a bunch of different versions on this one...hopefully one of them will be a keeper...I never did this 3d experimenting with/from a drawing before...LOTS OF FUN, AND POSABILITIES..:scream:
Abyssis ...THANK YOU MY FRIEND ...:) ...It's a NEW FRONTIER for me, with lots and lots of room to explore...:)
Samanthie ...THANK YOU ..You know, it is not only the color and lighting that changes the mood and emotion of the man on this one, it's also the fact that every time I change the viewing angle, his expession mood and emotion changes also...At one angle , he looks angry, and at another angle he looks happy, and still at another angle, he looks sad or contamplaintive...I wonder what DaVinci would think about this changing of expression, mood and emotions, just by changing the viewing angle of his drawing.Maybe he planned it that way... :scream:
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK EVERYONE...REALLY HELPS, AND ALWAYS VERY MUCH APPRCEATED ...
Changed perspective to up angle, changed the material, color and lighting...just experimenting, and having fun..:)
09-09-2007, 01:07 PM
SEPT 09, 2007 ....Going back into the figure now, to start the refinements of the details,...starting with the hands...long long ways to go yet...but getting there, SLOWLY BUT SURELY..:)
09-10-2007, 12:56 AM
SEPT 09, 2007......A little more work done on his hands.:)
09-10-2007, 03:44 AM
So far the hands are looking really good.
I like this piece a lot. For me the first september 8 piece looks better in coloring since the rock in which the man is sitting has most of those colors too.
:D beautiful, keep it up!
09-10-2007, 05:43 PM
SEPT 10, 2007
THANKS ...Vincere ...:) I like that one myself...I'm saving them all, and doing alot of versions. It's the best way that I know of to maybe at least end up with one or two keepers....JUST LIKE FISHING,..THROW YOUR LINE IN THE WATER ALOT, AND SOONER OR LATER, YOUR BOUND TO CATCH SOMETHING, WITH SOME LUCK OF COURSE...:)
Just capturing a reacurring passing thought, before it flies away into the darkness...Just a little thumbnail sketch that can later be refined, reposed, rescaled ect....But at least now, the thought has been captured, before it escaped..:)
09-11-2007, 03:53 AM
SEPT 10, 2007 ...Just started the work on one of his feet..lots left to do...:)
09-11-2007, 12:28 PM
SEPT 11, 2007 ......Carved a little on his other foot this morning..:)
09-11-2007, 11:59 PM
SEPT 11, 2007......Well, he's got his new feet, still a lot of work left to do all around...might make his beard running through his first two fingers...will add to his thinking gesture, I think...not much to go on in that area of the DaVinci drawing that i'm working from...no feet ether..had to make those up, used my imagination, no fefferences used,..so they are far from perfect, but they look better than they did.:)
09-12-2007, 07:57 AM
Your incredible anatomy-knowledge is clear in the management of foot.
Outstanding. What honestly slows down a little the feeling that I -personally- got with this subject is his right hand. Now it's a little bit "flying" in the space while I have been "trained" by sculptures and paints to see the subject "strongly - bring" it.
Can't wait to see more updates !
09-12-2007, 12:06 PM
Hehe, here comes a new really good digital sculpture. That last update itīs great man.
Every day when I open my mailbox I see youīre bring new experiments and updates. As Iīve said in the past, I fell you really have a unique style and great knowledge of anatomy (and as Iīm seeing youīre learning ZB fast too). I really apreciatte you work, Glenn.
Keep Zbrushing* that old man and bring us that Da Vinci sketch alive, with flying Dragons or not. :)
09-12-2007, 05:56 PM
Wow, Glenn amazing 'footwork'.:) You really have done an excellent job with him. Will you be adding color and texture?
09-12-2007, 07:22 PM
heya heya Glenn-m8y-dude-wizzard, your last anatomy studies on handz and feetz are simply g_r_e_a_t and I really LOVE IT :) ...so barock, so live, so FUNtastico, yeah...
take care, my friend...
09-13-2007, 03:05 AM
SEPT 12, 2007
Serena ...THANK YOU....I will start working on the wrist, hands and all the other refinements and finer details ....NOW..:)
Agnaldo ...THANK YOU...Just giving it my BEST SHOT ..:)
Samanthie ...THANK YOU ....I don't know enough about that instant skin color in Z BRUSH to even try it. I have never really been into photo realism, just not my cup of tea.
I feel comfortable with the textures being simple the way they are now...Thinking more along the lines of a sculpture for this, like marble, bronze or maybe even just the red color that it is now. Or a 2 and a half D painting..Z BRUSH /PAINTER #9 COMBO...Maybe both, or even a combination of both..sculpture and painting in one combo painting.
You know,.. I read/heard somewhere that you should not leave the facets showing, because people will know that it was done digitally, like that is somthing to be ashamed of, or embaressed about...must be a traditional arts conspiracy to keep digital art, and digital artist down...I myself, want people to know that my work was done digitally, and am proud of that fact...Tired of trying to fake it into looking like a traditional painting or sculpture...TRADITIONS CHANGE, ALWAYS HAVE, AND ALWAYS WILL.
It's kind of like when electric musical intruments and artist overshadowed the traditional acustical artist and instruments...If the trditionalist had their way, there would never have been ROCK AND ROLL and all of the GREAT music that stemed from it...NO PINK FLOYD  ...Anyway,SORRY,.. Just had to get that off of my chest,..been bothering me ever since I heard it...:)
I just feel that the public will never accept an art form that is trying to pass itself off as something other than what it is..:)
HEY ..Abyssis my friend...THANK YOU...I will do the best that I can do, while still staying true to my SELF/SPIRIT. That's all that I can or want to do.:)
TAKE CARE, and THANKS for the GREAT FEEDBACK...EVERYONE,..ALWAYS HELPFUL, AND VERY MUCH APRECEATED..
Worked on his beard a little, and the idea of having it run through his fingers, to add to the thinking gesture of his pose.
thank you so much.
I can only have much much respect for people like you... for you as an artist, but also as a human being.
Everyone who says friendship cannot exist on the internet doesn't know what friendship is.
Thank you and keep inspiring us! (we all know you will always do :) )
that whole paragraph about traditional and progressive currents is spot on.
You know, I always loved Intervain's thread and her models for the fact that she seldom felt the need to texture those models. She would basically leave them in that grey standard shader which gave away their abstract 3D digital substance they were made of and that really enhanced the sensation for me as a viewer.
Ironically, I think that is a very traditional way to sculpt... I mean, Michelangelo or other traditional masters seldom felt the need to paint the skins of their sculptures to hide the stone these were made of...:scream:

Johan...We are all part of the same crew in the same boat, called EARTH, and all of us are JUST SAILING THROUGH TIME,...some BAD, and some GOOD....When it is all said and done in the end, it is friendship that will ALWAYS keep this boat afloat..TROUGH THE BAD TIMES, AND THE GOOD TIMES :)
HEY MR MU....BEAUTY IS ONLY SKIN DEEP...IT'S THE SPIRIT OF THE ARTIST IN THE PIECE OF ART, THAT TRULY MAKES IT BEAUTIFUL, AND ..ART :)
I think I am going with this angle..it just gives me a stronger feeling of introspection and self reflextion that comes at the end of life than the side view does, which I think is what DaVinci was after in his little drawing,..and is what I am trying to capture in this study of his drawing.
09-13-2007, 12:16 PM
How about listening to music using CDs and DVDs or MP3s instead of a live orchestra? Yes you do not have got live music but you absolutely don't pay the same price and you can listen to your fav music as many times as you want.
It's a strange thing that digital reproduction is so WIDELY accepted in music and so refused in visual art, in the specific brand of illustration.
Bah, please do not wake up my poisoned tooth.
Beautiful the twisted walking stick !
MM I don't know if this pose it's the right onw...I prefer to wait for updates with colors !
09-13-2007, 03:58 PM
Hey Glenn, Your work is beautiful without any textures. It is your artwork and you have done a lovely job. I have had to explain to people (including family) why I believe that digital art is 'real' art. I just tell them I am basically making the same strokes with my digital tablet and pen that I do with actual paint or my pencils. Also I really like having an unlimited supply of canvas where I can 'usually' ;) correct mistakes with just a click. Take care!:)

Serena....THANKS....POISONED TOOTH  ...I LOVE IT ..LOL :scream:
Samantha ...THANKS..You know that when the IMPESSIONIST came about, the tradionalist of that era called their workes trash...Well, the impessionist are probably all rolling over in their graves laughing hyteracally about now...How much did that last Monet sell for..:scream:
Alot of artist, and movements are just born ahead of their time ,..that's all...and TIME WILL TELL if this is the case with digital art, and artist, I suppose..:) ....NO JUSTICE IN THIS WORLD...LOL.:scream:
Just exploring, experimenting with textures..Will mess up big time, but who cares,...that's the best way to learn something new..:)
it looks like a bronze figurine, now!

MR MU ....THANKS....You know me, ..just exploring all of the possabilities..Someday I will be able to touch a bronze statue made from one of my Z BRUSH figures...someday..:)
Then I can send one to you to touch also..:scream: ...just to get even with you for helping me get started with this Z BRUSH MAGIC..:)
TAKE CARE..MR MU..
Just playing around with the alfa textures in Z BRUSH, and the colored spot lights in PAINTER #9...Trying to set the MOOD..:)

Samanthie....THANK YOU ...:) ...Still a long ways to go yet...but getting there, slowly but surely..:)
Refining the cloth on his legs, while exploring and experimenting with all the new fancy carving tools in Z BRUSH .:)
09-14-2007, 09:05 PM
Hi Glenn, great work on the old man. Nice effect you achieve in post 1644: it allmost looks like a bas relief. Very interesting. Keep going!
09-15-2007, 12:29 AM
Wow! You have one daunting thread Spiritdreamer, or would you rather me call you Glenn? Pretty cool to see your skills at Z Brush progressively improve over time. I like your old man sculpture so far, in fact it's pretty hard to comprehend all the work and detail that's been put into it. Good job.
09-15-2007, 09:46 AM
after not checking you thread for some days because of no time... I have to say this model of the old man is becomingvery nice :) Are you able to create a lightning like in SEPT 14, 2007 but the blue part as black and shadow and the dark red like the red on the head? Would lkie to see this version ;)
I was at an art store to buy a sumi brush ... there was one brush which I think was the sumi brush but it was very expensive ... size 4 should have cost 20euro ... and I only had 15euro with me because I bought some books before ^^
Keep this work up Glenn, very nice :)

SEPT 15, 2007
Rangerman ...THANK YOU...Lots of work for sure..but it's the kind of work that I really enjoy, ..After doing a lifetime of hard back breaking physical labor work, ..this is really more of a pleasure than work, when I stop and think about it..:) ...OH by the way ...calling me Glenn, is fine with me..:)
Thomas...THANK YOU..:) ...I really like that idea of yours...it made me think of just doing this as a painting in gray scale with values...maybe try out that instant color thing that Magdalena/Intervain used on her INGRESS mastercopy paintings of those ladies in the satin dresses, that she has in her CG PORTFOLLIO ..Just a thought, but one thought has a way of always leading to another..which is what just happened with your thought/idea that you posted above..GREAT...THANKS Thomas..
P.S.....Sorry to hear about that sumi brush being so expensive..they used to be very resonably priced, but like everything else in the art store and everywhere else for that matter nowdays  ...need I say more ..:)
Turned this Z BRUSH sculpture into a gray scaled value study, that can be taken to a full scaled color study...maybe...:)
09-16-2007, 03:08 AM
I like the feet modeling, it looks very good! I really dont know what to write everytime I go to your thread, I mean your work is great and is kind of the only thing I can say xD I know it sounds too repetitive, but I really mean it :)
I do think digital art is art like traditional art, I went to a gallery once (a family member was displaying her work). Anyway I saw a digital painting of a flower, it had all these weird photoshop brushes, so since it was in a gallery I'm guessing they are really accepting digital works.
09-16-2007, 04:41 AM
Hey Glenn, I like this latest lighting effect. It's very somber and mysterious. Of course I think maybe the hint of a scraggly old tree on the right would look cool. :)
09-16-2007, 06:10 AM
SEPT 16, 2007
Vincere....HEY...THANK YOU..:) ...Digital art is still fairly new, will just take time for the general public to get used to it, and realize that it is just as hard, and takes just as much skill to do as traditional art..just takes time..:)
Samanthie...THANKS...Something about black and white/grayscale..just creates it's own special kind of mood...just like in the movies..:)...I am thinking about adding something in there...I keep seeing an ant hill with an ant at the end of his walking stick .. ...Kind of like King Solomon studying the ants, and comparing them to humanity ..just a passing thought that keeps passing by ..not sure what or if I will put anything else in this one yet..I will have to dream on it awhile..I think...:)
Just exploring and experimenting with some colors over that grayscale painting posted earlier and above.
09-16-2007, 10:00 AM
on the one from SEPT 15, 2007 ... I think you could try to get the reflections on the figure a little brighter and get a stronger light ... I think it looks good so far but it is to dark. Have you every tried some light from behind? I am not sure but that might be another interressting idea? :D Getting a nice rim light :)
Keep it up!
09-16-2007, 01:56 PM
SEPT 16, 2007
Thomas...THANKS...:) ....I think I am going to stick with the frontal lighting for now...need to get a good photo of DaVinci's Madona of the Rocks painting.. the first version...That's the lighting that i'm after for this one..:)
Just going for a warmer atmospheric feeling this morning..:)
09-16-2007, 07:37 PM
I like the warm sunset type lighting..it's comforting. Good idea to add an ant hill if you decide to do it. It would be interesting to see how you go about that. Anyway good work Glenn!:applause:
09-16-2007, 11:41 PM
I like the rustic coloring of the picture, it creates a warm humbling look to the picture. Although I'd ease the fog that's covering the guy just a little bit so that we can see a little more of his body. I like the idea of him playing with an ant hill too, seems appropriate.
09-16-2007, 11:52 PM
for sure it is up to you which way you are going ;) I am just throwing in what comes to my mind from time to time ... yeah sometimes there are some ideas in my brain ... I think ;)
Have you ever thought of giving him a background? As I saw you last piece I thought "why not let him sit on a bank in a garden and give him a tree in the background" ... though ... just a new thought ;) I think a finished background would be wrong but maybe do it your way and place something more in the background, for example the tree would be an idea ;) Just to give this piece more depth :)
Keep it up :)
09-17-2007, 12:32 AM
even before i read the caption above the last one, i was struck by da vinci, and actually what i was going to put in the comment til i realised thats already what your going for. so great job! lol. the orange lighting i think fits the figure a lot better than the blue.
i like it when the face seems to be the focal point, esspecially in the overhead shot you had a few posts ago, and the close up on the beard shot you had looked really good as well. the last few seem to head on from the side, but then again... this probably isnt for final composition, so.... im gonna stop talking, haha. either way, its a fantastic model :)
09-17-2007, 03:47 AM
SEPT 16, 2007
Samanthie ..THANKS..Mrs Spirit Dreamer tells me that Merlin also contamplates the ant humanity thought that Old King Solomon thought about..must be a univerial and timeless thought I guess..I might have the ants at the base of the tree of LIFE..My thought at the first sight of DaVinci's drawing that I am working on..posted in here a few pages back, was that the tree he is leaning against, is the tree of LIFE, a commonly used symbol at that time ..Putting the ants in here, along with the tree of LIFE, might add to the thought..Will have to think and dream about it as I work on this figure more..:)
Tim...THANKS..I feel comfortable with the warmer colors also..I will sharpen up the figure here and there at the end...just trying to set the mood with color and lighting first though..first things first..:)
Thomas...LOL..SOMETIMES THERE ARE SOME IDEAS IN MY BRAIN..:scream:
You are always coming up with GREAT IDEAS for my paintings..I just hope that I have been able to repay you in that respect with your own works...WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND..OR AT LEAST IT SHOULD..THANKS Thomas...I think that in the end, I will have him leaning against the tree of LIFE as he is in the original...WHY MESS WITH THE PERFECTION OF A COMPOSITION FROM A MASTER LIKE Da Vinci..I still might put an ant in there though,..just to make a tiny bit of it mine..MAYBE..:scream: :)
Abbey...THANK YOU...I had forgotten about that downward angle pose that you just mentioned, so I just went back to it, and started refining it..THANKS FOR REMINDING ME..
I will hopefully end up with a few worthwhile versions of this little DaVinci drawing before the end of the month, which is when the workshop ends...and learning alot from each version I hope.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK ..EVERYONE...REALLY HELPS, AND IS ALSO VERY MUCH APPRECEATED..:)
Starting to refine this version..going for ..MOOD, created with lighting.
09-17-2007, 09:45 AM
this is beautiful work
09-17-2007, 11:01 AM
Hey Glenn, thanks ;) Of yourse you are always a great help :)
Is this guy leaning at the tree of life? LOL I really have not known this .... or maybe forgotten ... so give him the feeling of the garden of eden (is it called like this in english?) for the background... I always thought this guy should sit in nature ...
Another thing you could try is to give him a sunset feeling ... he is an old guy .. so sunset fits ... a little ;)
Keep it up :)
09-18-2007, 12:23 AM
your warmer atmosphere version is looove! I think the tree you're going to add will work well with that kind of lightning, green and red have always looked good togheter (I hope I'm making some sense here) the model is looking good, I like the pose on the last one, he looks like he's more in thought there.
09-18-2007, 12:23 AM
SEPT 17, 2007
Dhame ...THANK YOU...Glad that my work brings you that kind of pleasure...BEAUTY IS GOOD..:)
Thomas ...THANKS..:) ...I don't know if that is the tree of LIFE in the original DaVinci drawing, but it sounds good anyway ...:scream:
I like your idea for the sunset..set in NATURE....
Vincere...THANKS....I will start working on that tree tomarrow, just to see how it will look...:)
Just taking a little time out today to just play with this figure..:)
09-18-2007, 01:30 AM
yes yes :) i love that angle a lot better. really gives the piece some good feeling.... nice bench O_O lol
colorful crystal benches.... not.good... i should have taken a left back there...

Abyssis...THANK YOU MY FRIEND..:) ...TIME WILL TELL...:)
Putting an eye in this guy...It's the first time that I haver ever tried placing an eyeball as a seperate object/subtool into a socket..will take a few tries before I get it down,...but hey, it's a start ..:)
09-18-2007, 09:40 PM
I'm curious Glenn, are you going to put any detail on his walking stick? Details like branch stumps or knots or something of that nature?
I was just looking at your sculpture and it was the only item that didn't have as much detail as everything else.
something I can't stop thinking whenever I check your progress on this fella is how nice it would look on my desk.
And how great it would feel in my hand (I envision it to be something like a fistful of material) and how nice it would be to explore all the creases and all with my hands. I always felt it was kind of sad that you are not allowed to touch statues in any art museum (I mean, okay, there's hardly a substance out there in nature which is as aggressively damaging as human hand sweat... certain skunk secretion and cola aside...:D ) so I can understand it, but I feel statues are made for the hands first and then for the eyes.
Maybe, in a few years, consumer technology will be cheap and advanced enough so you can put on gloves and virtually feel the creases of a virtual statue... well, actually, when you think about it: what a weird century!
But I don't wanna complain - in another century I wouldn't even have known about your art, so all is well...:scream:
09-19-2007, 11:57 AM
Yes "poisoned tooth" is a typical italian sentence :wise::love:
Well, I stay out for few days and I find 2 more pages of updates. You are incredible !
I love the last metal version !

Tim ..THANKS FOR THE VISIT..:) ..I will be trying out on that walking stick some new to me things that are in a DVD by Meats Meier on Z BRUSH..stay tuned for more experiments...coming up shortly ..:)
MR MU....THANK YOU....HEY GET OUT THOSE MAGIC GLOVES, MAYBE THEY WILL WORK ON THIS LATEST ONE :scream: ,..IF NOT, THERE IS ALWAYS REAL IMAGINATION... THAT OLD FASHIONED, BUT VERY RELIABLE STANDBY ..:scream:
Serena ...THANK YOU..:) ..HEY, POISONED TOOTH..IT MUST BE FOLLOWED BY THE... EVIL EYE  ...A DOUBLE WHAMMY IF EVER THERE WAS ONE :scream:
I've finally gotten what I was after with this DaVinci ink drawing that I have been working from...A silver statue, with a crystal base..Or at least the virtual illussion of that..:)
09-19-2007, 02:47 PM
This is superb Glenn!.....Awesome work....really love your interpretation od Da Vinci's sketch :)
Want to place the sclupture on my work table....its so tempting......
want more updates.....
09-20-2007, 01:10 AM
Wonderful job Glenn, he really is a work of art!!:bounce:
IF NOT, THERE IS ALWAYS REAL IMAGINATION... THAT OLD FASHIONED, BUT VERY RELIABLE STANDBY
I've finally gotten what I was after with this DaVinci ink drawing
congratulations, man. You have taken everything one step further - your skills and that drawing itself

SEPT 20, 2007
Ratul ....THANK YOU....I wouldn't mind having one of those myself...HOW MUCH, and where would I find one. OH, and first I would need to get a desk to put it on....LOL..:scream:
Samanthie...THANK YOU ...I am really enjoying this one,,,makes a big difference in the outcome of any piece done...:)
MR MU...HEY.....THANK YOU..:) ..So when can I expect to see you anchored in front of my house...The Atlantic get's pretty rough in the winter, so don't wait too long before you start your journy...:)
THANKS..EVERYONE, AND TAKE CARE..
Placed his eyeball in the socket, and starting the details of his hands and face.
09-21-2007, 05:35 AM
SEPT 21, 2007 ...Worked more on his hands, beard, nose, and ear..:)
09-21-2007, 11:11 AM
Ehi you are going to refine him!
Can't wait to see the new update !
09-21-2007, 11:15 AM
GREAT to see you can get an even higher level of detail on this one :) You must now give the hair the same details as the beard :) Oh and don't forget of the ear ;)
Keep it up :) I am looking forward to the finished model ... though even I am not sure if you are going to have one finished model or if you could go and refine him every week or so? :D :D :D
09-22-2007, 02:53 AM
SEPT 21, 2007
Serena ...THANKS ...:) ..Of course i'm going to refine him further,..what kind of artist do you think I am..:scream: The details and refinements are always saved for last, at least that is the way that I have been taught.:) I didn't spend a month working on him, to leave him unfinished...:scream: not my style...:)
Thomas ...THANKS...:) That little push, is just what I needed at this point on this one...
About finishing IT, ..When asked by the Pope,...WHEN WILL YOU MAKE AN END TO IT,...Michelangilo replied...WHEN IT IS FINISHED...:scream: :)
Worked on his head hair, beard, eyebrows, and lower lip.
09-22-2007, 04:39 AM
september 18 is amazing! he looks like he's made of some sort of metal, actually he looks like made of quicksilver, the eye really does gives him more feeling.
how great that you're detailing him even more, this model looks so good. I specially like the beard.
09-22-2007, 11:29 AM
The super-artist you are, of course :bounce:
Ok, it means that I've to sit down and wait for the pic. http://www.maj.com/gallery/DanElHombre/smilies/popcorn.gif
Just got back from my exams... And it's good to be back among computers :)
The old man looks damn good! Love the version with the stick (i don't quite know how to call it... need a dictionary :D)
The emotion looks so real! Can't wate to see the final picture :)
Heh.... good to be back...
Cheers! My best wishes!
09-22-2007, 02:35 PM
Your steadfast devotion to a project from start to finish is truly commendable Glenn! I can only learn! Keep delivering :bounce:

I went down to a shop in Salem MA. that sells my works yesterday ..mostly paintings.. ..The owers have a bunch of statues that are reproductions of Italian master works..Venus by Botticelli ect..They are made from some kind of white translucent material that resembles marble....Now ..what I need to know, is,...don't the companies that make the statues from the Z BRUSH figure like the one I am posting do the retopologizing of the figure in their process of making the final real life statue..? ..Is there anyone in here who has had their works made into statues, who can give me the lowdown on what it intails...The ower of the shop would like me to have a statue made from this DaVinci character that I am working on.
Made this guy look like the statues that are in the shop that I visited yesterday

SEPT 23, 2007 .....A full shot of the figure...:)
09-24-2007, 10:20 AM
first of all, I can only tell you that there is a company existing who makes 3D models into real statues. But I can't tell you more sorry ... maybe you should post this request somewhere else in the forum where more people have a look ?
The statue looks very nice, I like the light/shadow work :) As I looked at the full figure I thought, what about blue ? Maybe you could experiment a little with some light blue? ^^
Would be nice :D
Keep it up!

SEPT 24, 2007
Thomas ....THANK YOU...When I get this finished as far as I can take it, ..I will ask SIJU...The company he just went to work for, is having statues made from his works, so he will probably, hopefully, be able to help me out with the information that I am seeking..MAYBE...:)
I will keep that blue that you just mentioned in mind..sounds good to me ...THANKS... :)
Perched his trusted famillar onto his shoulder,...added as a subtool, so it is now one piece, that can be viewed from all angles,..man, dragon and all....Need to get the crystal base in there next, and will have him leaning back against the tree of life, which will be growing out of the crystal base in the final version...:)
09-25-2007, 07:08 AM
This last Zsculpt is just awesome Glenn!
The joy of working on this project jumps right out. Your wonderful handling of the software is motivating me to get in the 3D arena soon.......
Like a cat twitching to jump at the feather on a string, you've inspired me.

Johan ...Hey, GREAT to hear from you..:) Other than the fact that I need a new body, i'm doing fine ..The one I have now, has seen better days :)
A long lifetime of learned rules, and a long lifetime of bending them to MY OWN WILL,DESIRES, and NEEDES...UNLIMITED FREEDOM when it comes to MY SPIRIT, MY ART, MY THOUGHTS, and MY IDEAS :bounce: :)
Just playing with this thought I have of combining classical sculpture with contempory abstract sculpture...one idea leads to another in the long story of art..This might be a good way of showing that :)

Abbey ..THANK YOU...I still have a long ways to go in Z BRUSH, AND WITH THIS SCULPTURE, BUT I AM ENJOYING THE JOURNY, AND THAT IS WHAT MATTERS MOST TO ME AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE..Glad that my work has given you some pleasure also..:)
...Tried to make this JADE statue more translucent, color in shadows, and lighting ect.

SEPT 28, 2007
Rather than go on to something new as I usually do at the end of a workshop, I think that I will continue to further refine this sculpture. I think that it is worth it. I have learned a lot about Z BRUSH in Magdalena's workshop, and will continue to learn while I do battle with this sculpture..HOPEFULLY ..:)
Refined the dragons wings further.
09-29-2007, 01:31 AM
you need to get some textures on him, holy crap, if you get textures on him, he is going to look AMAZING. not that he doesnt already, but wow. hes put a lot of work into you, i think hes going to make a fabulous finished piece :)
09-29-2007, 04:25 AM
when you are done with the sculpture do you mind letting us have a closer look closer at the details? Very curious. :)
09-29-2007, 12:58 PM
SEPT 29, 2007
Abbey ..THANKS...:) I will see what kind of textures go with this kind of sculpture...but I am not sure if texture is what I want in this as a statue...when I see statues from the fifteen hundreds, I don't see textures, as much as I see form.
Louis ..THANKS ...:) Curious as to what you are looking for in the way of details...when I see a nice statue, I see it as a whole form, not as a bunch of very small details..but anyway, here is a close up view of the area that I am working on this morning.
...worked on his hair, beard, mustach, nostrals, eyebrows
09-29-2007, 02:16 PM
What HUGE sketchbook you've got here. Its really inspiring. You are a great artist. And I'm not much into sculpting but I still like your experiments in ZBrush :applause:

Supria ..THANK YOU..Glad that you enjoyed the visit..:) It's been a long journy for sure..:) ..GREAT ARTIST ...LOL..That's a relitive and comparitive thought, and has alot more to do with ego than with art. LOL ..:) NO, i'm just a free spirit having some fun is all..:)
Worked on his walking staff, and more on the dragons wings.
Going a reaaally long way with this sculpt as I see. Having fun, eh? Going to make it as a sculpture of some sort? Like that jade look. Somehow when it has that jade shader it makes me think that the statue is really small. Well jade figures aren't supposed to be big, right? I don't know really. Maybe bronze would a better idea, though jade is something not seen to me in 3d. Ahh, all up to you, just speaking with myself here :)
Just how further are you going to push it? I do like some of the compositions posted earlier. Must be hard to decide what to do with it :D

Hey Glenn, nice addition of the dragon. Out of curiosity, what insipired the dragon?
10-01-2007, 08:44 AM
Oh wow, it's really cool, can't wait to see more updates. :) Oh yeah I'm wondering about the dragon too.

RAZZ ...THANKS..:) JADE is small indeed..mabe two inches tall..is all.:scream: ...Made this little bronze this morning, just for you..:)
Just experimenting and playing with this one...GREAT WAY, to explore Z BRUSH futher...just one piece, done many ways,..rather than start something totally new....I just thought I would try a different approach to the way I have been doing, in regards to learning Z BRUSH..just sticking with one piece for awhile, and pushing it as far, and in as many directions as I can..:)
Tim ...THANKS ...:) The dragon is just a personal touch. If you look in the Post a Picture of Yourself section in this forum, first page of that thread, you will see that I have a dragon tatooed on my shoulder..To me, the dragon is the symbol of LIFE, or the FORCE/ENERGY IN LIFE, THAT MAKES ALL LIFE POSSIBLE
This guy ended up kind of looking like me, so I just put that dragon on his shoulder to make it seem even more so,..to me anyway ...:)
Louis ...THANKS..PLENTY MORE TO COME...I'm not bored by this piece yet,...This is the first time that anyone has taken this DaVinci sketch, and turned it into 3d as far as I know, so it is totally unique as far as I know..:)
A small bronze paperwieght, ..you can even pin notes onto the end of his walking stick..:scream:
Thanks Glenn :D The model look great with this shader. And bigger too, hehe. Good way of learning, doing many variations of the same thing. Hey, that's sort of the same thing Thomas and me were doing with the self-portraits. Each one done in a different style. Oh, and thanks for the inspiration at my thread, really helpful.
Looking forward to seeing more intersting variations of this piece.

I absolutely prefer this material. What do you think about another ambient light in order to show the details?
10-02-2007, 04:17 PM
I fell now youīre starting (just starting) to keep satisfied with that piece :). Itīs great to see how many different views of the same art you can bring to us. From the classics to the "Spirit Dreamers" approaches.
The last one with the bronze shader itīs very good (can be more brighter, like CyborgJA said). But it donīt have your sign in that. I do prefer the colorfull ones.
In that work I see youīve learned a lot of ZBrush. The 3d mesh itīs more refined and detailed and thereīs few areas with messy polygons. That evolution itīs notable. Probably a next step to you is to try to sculpt your own primitives, in a commom 3d software. It will give you more control about your meshes.
Well. I hope you can work more in that piece until you be satisfied. Itīs a pleasure to get inspiration from your work everyday.

RAZZ ...THANKS ..:) ....You know me, always trying to spark that young imagination of yours, and trying to guide it in the right direction.
If I didn't think you already had it in you, imagination that is, ..I wounldn't bother trying to spark it... It will burn bright once it is lit I think..:)
Serena ...THANKS..:) I will be trying out all kinds of lighting as I go along...I don't want to highlight every detail though...have to leave room for mystery after all...That was DaVinci's secret you know...to make the viewer work their own imagination to achive the pleasure of seeing the details ...:)
Agnaldo ..THANKS...:) I am for sure learning alot from this piece..Still on sub devision level three, so there is still plenty of room and ram for improvements....Another software  ..I am barely scratching the surface with this one...Give me about another ten years, and I might think about trying out another software..:scream:
Worked on the the base for this sculpture today...the base is three seperate sub tools,..the mans eye , his walking stick, the dragon, and the man himself, are all seperate sub tools, which can now be isolated, refined and worked on seperatly...Plus, it is all one unit now also, whick can be rotated, spun around, and be refined and worked on from all angles and perpectives... :)

Hey Glenn, Now I'm thinking he is a wizard with his magical pet dragon. It's fun watching all the variations to this piece.

THANKS ..Samanthie....Actually, this is going into a shop that a couple that I know have in Salem MA...They have been selling my works for awhile now. They specialize in PAGAN jewelery, statues, paintings ect. It's a really nice shop that they have, full of beautiful stuff, imported from all over the planet.
Holloween is coming up. That's when they sell alot of their goods..Salem gets jammed with tourist, coming to see the place where the witches/pagans hung out, and hang out..:) This wizard should fit nicely into that enviroment, and their shop..:)
I figured that this guy already had the look of a wizard, so I should just go with it, and that's what I did, and am doing..:)
I won't have a real life statue of him in time for holloween, but I will have prints made, jewelery boxes with the image of him on them ect. by the time holloween gets here...HOPEFULLY..:)
Just trying out a different material and texture...Today I will be trying to figure out how to make each section a different metal...a gold dragon, a bronze man, a silver base,..and the various combinations of those three elements that can be had within this one piece..:)

OCT. 03, 2007 ....LIGHT AND SHADE STUDY
10-03-2007, 02:09 PM
Hmmm. That lightened variation is interesting too. I donīt know itīs my personal taste but the lights add a lot for the forms, anatomy and the overall look of the image.
Probably I can sound a little dumb, but that light setup youīre working isnīt too clear (I mean, to define whereīs the light is coming). Iīm not a Master about that subject, but Iīd love to share the few and the only informations I most use about Light (in 3D, mainly):
A Article by Amaan Akram
(http://www.warpedspace.org/lightingT/part1.htm)Another article by Richard Harris (http://www.itchy-animation.co.uk/light.htm)
A Video at Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bwsi9NQWen0)
Probably you already know what this guys are talking about and probably to make a classic three point light isnīt your goal. But I think information is usual, in any way. Hope you donīt mind.
Thatīs it. Keep studying.

OCT. 03, 2007
Agnaldo...HEY....THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH FOR THOSE LINKS... REALLY GREAT....JUST WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR ..:)
Taking me awhile to get used to these 3d lights and setups,...but i'm here to learn..:)
A little further along with this lighting study.
10-03-2007, 07:18 PM
Hi Glenn, I like the lighting study on this latest one. You said you will be selling some of your art prints at a shop in Salem, that is so cool! I agree your wizard will fit in well. Do you do a sort of decopauge on the jewelry boxes?

OCT. 04, 2007
THANK YOU ...Samanthie ....About those jewelery boxes....they are really beautiful .. velvet lined, laqured finish..what the company that makes them does, is to put the image/painting onto a ceramic tile with a laqured finish over it..which really brings out the luster/richness in and of the colors of the painting giving them greater depth....then they inlay the tile into the lid of the wooden box..The boxes come in a nice laqured cherry wood finish, or a black laqured finish..both are really nice...:)
If you go to the link that says MY SITE down below this latest image of mine, you can find a link to MY STORE, called THE GLENN on the index on the front page...You will see the boxes in there. I sell them from my online store, plus I have them made up as I need them for the other real life shops that I display and sell them in....The name of the outfit that makes the boxes , and lots and lots of other stuff that you can have your images put on, is called ..CAFE PRESS...They do beautiful work, and their colors in their printing process are spot on.
That last fairy in the woods painting you did would look fantastic inlaid on the lid of one of those jewelery boxes I think..:)
If you are interested in having a box made with that image on it, let me know,...I can have it made up for you through my store, just at cost..I get a cheaper cost because I have a lot of stuff made through/by them..I get a good discount...and can have one made up for you at a very reasonable price...I think you would love it, once you saw and were able to open and feel the jewelery box, with your own image inlaid into it's lid..Just a passing thought, let me know if you are interested...:) and MRS SPIRIT DREAMER/Jessica will have one made up for you,..she does all the buessness and money making with my art, that's her thing,.....I just like to paint...that's my thing...:scream:
Seems to work out great for both of us, and is a confortable arrangement..:)
Pushing this lighting study further, just to see where it goes.
10-04-2007, 03:52 PM
He looks even better in this light Glenn! Hey thanks for the info on the jewelry boxes they sound lovely. I will certainly visit your store!:) I've been meaning to do something at Cafe Press for a long time, just haven't yet.

Samanthie ....THANKS..:) ..Glad you enjoyed the store...Hope to get some of this newer stuff in there soon...But only so many hours in MRS SPIRIT DREAMERS DAY....SOME DAY, THERE WILL BE ENOUGH TIME ..:)
A little more work on this old wizard...Starting to stir up/create a little bit of MAGIC..with that walking stick of his :)

OCT. 06, 2007
Working on an idea for a multi metaled statue.
I have so far,...A bronze base, a silver man, a bronze walking stick, bronze eye for the man, ..Now all I have to do is figure out how to make the dragon turn into gold, and have rubies for it's eyes.
Would be nice to have it made into a real life statue, but it will have to stay in a virtual world,...until I get rich, or some rich person decides to bring it to real life...LOL ..Just dreaming out loud here...I guess that's why i'm called SPIRIT DREAMER ..:)
THE ALCHEMIST WIZARD, and his soon to be GOLDEN DRAGON, with RUBY EYES ...HOPEFULLY...:)
10-06-2007, 04:44 PM
Looking lovely Glenn. I just noticed the top image where he is turned away from view. Interesting to see how you did the stones he is sitting on. Good luck with the ruby eyes for the dragon.
10-07-2007, 03:47 AM
Nice touches you've done so far keep up the excellent work. Have you thought up of a name for the statue?
10-07-2007, 04:18 PM
Iīd like to be drawing more than Iīm talking : ) , but anyway, your thread deserve this.
I really think you got a nice combination with that metals if the purpose for this piece is achieve a "virtual" statue look.
But something keep my attention in this last update: that image is brighter and I can see better youīve worked very well in the back part of the rocks, but, the back part is nicer (in my honestly oppinion) than the front part. The front part looks like the rock was "cutted" by a knife. Is too much straigh, flat, to be a rock. What do you think to put some details there? Not too much, but just something to keep off that flat look.
What do you think about it ? Iīd like to hear your feedback.
Thatīs it. Keep "rocking". : )
i'm damn glad your thread is on top all the time! :D
that sais a lot!
the gray-silver old man with the dragons looks good! It still has that crystal look, but that's fine with me! :)
Al the best!

OCT. 07, 2007
Samanthie ...THANKS ...RUBY EYES coming up shortly ..:)
Tim ...THANKS...Not sure about a name yet,...something to do with changing base metals into gold ..ALCHEMY
Agnaldo ...THANKS ...Going for a painting, and a statue with this one.
About the smooth edge of the stone..I used to live next to a place that cut head stones, statues ect. out of granite, marble ect.....they would leave the backside of the stone rough, and polish the cut side, until it looked like glass and showed off the inner grain of the stone...looked just like the way they are in my sculpture..:)
HEY ..Icey....ALWAYS GREAT TO HEAR FROM YOU...Hope everything is GOING GREAT with you and yours..:)
My thread is on top all the time, probably because I spend too much time in front of the computer...:scream: Just doing what I enjoy doing for a change...after working for forty years at hard labor back brakeing jobs..I can finally do what I went to school and learned to do, but never seemed to have had the chance to do...BETTER LATE THAN NEVER....EVERY THING HAPPENS FOR A REASON..:)
Playing with this a little this morning....minimal lighting.
10-07-2007, 09:05 PM
OCT. 7, 2007 ...Worked on the dragons look.
10-08-2007, 08:26 AM

Serena ...THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK..
I save them all as I go along, so that one that you prefer is not lost..:)
Just experimenting and exploring as I play...it's the best, and the only way to learn...for myself anyway..:)
Trying out a different design

OCT. 08, 2007
TRYING TO MAKE A GOLD DRAGON...Every time I change the dragon, the man also changes...:banghead: HELP.. What am I doing wrong here...?
How do you save the materials and textures into the seperate sub tools..?...I can't seem to locate the answer to that simple question in the Meats Meier DVD on Z BRUSH..Watched it about ten times now...:banghead: ...HELP ..:scream:
10-08-2007, 07:25 PM
OCT. 08, 2007 ....Getting closer to bronze, silver, and gold, through the use of lighting, textures, materials, and masking...but still unable to disconect the dragon from the man..as a seperate sub tool:shrug:
Will keep trying, and hopefully will get it sooner or later,..going for the ruby eyes in the dragon next, each as seperate sub tools..just a glutton for punishment I guess..must be part mule...:scream: :)
10-09-2007, 05:30 AM
very nice variations

10-11-2007, 11:21 AM
i am new joining in cgtalk. i am passout from delhi college of art new delhi (india).
i like your work.
10-12-2007, 12:07 AM
Great work! I think it's cool that your doing digital sculptures with Z-brush, and yes that program can get a bit akward at times.
My only critique is that a lot of the folds(especially on the top half) seem more like the wrinkles you get when you sit down for a long time and your shirt in the back gets all scrunched up, instead of folding cloth. Also you should vary the width of your folds and wrinkles so they don't look like you just did them with the same size tool.
Anyways, keep up the good work. You have an amazing gallery, very unique. Your 3d wolves (Night Fury) remind me of Holograms, awesome.
10-12-2007, 04:38 PM
OCT. 12, 2007
Narender ...THANK YOU...Glad you enjoyed my work..:)
Marcel ....THANK YOU...:) You are right in your crit about the folds being the same size on the lower half,..I was experimenting with a speedy way of doing them with a fancy alpha tool...will fatten, modify, and give a little more variation with another fancy tool as I go along..The wrinklely look in his top jacket,...I LIKE IT...He's been wearing it for a long long time, don't want the perfect folds look...crusty and wrinklely adds to his character I think...OLD and CRUSTY..:)
THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK, ALWAYS HELPFUL, AND MUCH APPRECEATED...
Started working on the dragons eyes...using sub tools..will stick a brighter red RUBY jewel like set of eyes on top of the first set...which were used to create the shape of the socket...I am new to this approach of doing eyes with sub tools, so will be experimenting alot with them and this approach to doing eyes as I go along..:)
10-13-2007, 02:08 PM
OCT. 13, 2007
Put the dragons eyes in as sub tools...RUBY EYES...:)
10-13-2007, 02:16 PM
OCT. 13, 2007.....RUBY EYED DRAGON...Finally starting to get the hang of how to do these sub tools... FINALLY..:)
10-13-2007, 09:08 PM
These closeups are nice Glenn. I love the ruby eyes on the dragon and I like the way you do dragon faces in general. Keep up the great work!
10-14-2007, 04:26 AM
I like the detail work you've done on the dragon's body, and the ruby eyes adds some character to the dragon as well. Are you going to do some similar detail for the wings as well Glenn?
The closup of the dragon makes it look - euhm - hard to explain... It's like the old man is thinking about his dragon and suddenly it appears on his shoulder...
The dragon also seems to be looking at the man with a "are you ok buddy?" look.
But it is known that dragons and humans can create a solid bond with eachother if there is respect from both sides... seems like this is the case here...
