Ah, I am not fully out of retirement just yet. But when I am I will "buy this town" as Jimi Hendrix once said...:scream:

heck, I like this steel lighting!

And especially the composition. Looks like a classical religious theme now, ascending and descending souls: vary the poses, stretch the canvas, add a few demons on the bottom and a shining light on top and you got a classical, renaissance spiritual fresco. The wonderfully curved anatomy of the bodies helps to evoce a classical connotation.

Or you just keep experimenting...:scream:... every morning I take a look at your variations it sparks a new idea...f-u-n...

EDIT: Glenn, the man needs a penis...just does not look right with all the rest of the body so truthfully and vivid...

Hi Glenn..
I like that last one...

About the query you posted in my thread about modeling hands with ZSpheres..
You can make the hand using zspheres with usual manner, but the mesh will be really twisted and useless when you start 5 branches from a single zsphere.
So it will be better to just model the palm and the thumb with zpheres, and make the rest of the fingers using EdgeLoop after baking it into polygon mesh.
I have recorded the method in a ZScript for you and attached with this message. Just load it in ZBrush from the "ZScript" menu and press the play button in the bottom tray.

great composition, Glenn-gelo...:D

it's interesting how individual the pose looks from so many angles. I especially love the angle on the top right one.

One thing that makes me wonder:

- The pose of mother earth along with the cone of light from above on the top...
- ...and the alignment of the bodies on the bottom...

actually form a wonderful iconic trapezoid which enhances the spiritual background of the whole thing.
But right now, the canvas looks a bit cropped on the left hand side. Is that on purpose to loosen that iconic composition up? I would love to see it laid out perfectly symmetrical.

You know, when I have a cupboard and the corner of a room, I always push it into the corner so that the two right angles fit into each other, while my girlfriend tries all kinds of funny combinations which I can hardly stand to watch...:scream:

I need symmetry and alignment...does that make me autistic...or just german? :scream:

Hello,

the last piece is very impressive and the different views of the men are hard to ignore, lol, I want to combine, compare... every single detail.

Perhaps I am a little autistic, too? @murat The monk-syndrom :scream:

What I specially love in this last piece is, how you handle the colors. Though the men falling down, there is a very high energy in mother earth. The men really fade out of the scene, at the same time they are totally solid standing for themselves as individuals. Enough space for personal thoughts and enough strenght, don't know how to say, that keep the relevance.

Ciao,
Ellie

Hi Glenn :)

What a lovely surprise! the way you added your Earthspirit spiritearth to the composition :)
It REALLY works!! :bounce: And your thoughts on it are great! there's so much that can be said with art and imagery that can't be said in any other way. Amazing work, you should be very happy! :) :applause:

LOL it must be autistic then because i feel the same not being German LOL

Glenn I love the colours - that blue with the yellow looks awesome!
one thing that's disturbing me is that it's hard to tell the shapes of those figures floating about - they seem to be overlapping each other too much making it a tad too messy...

THANKS...MR MU....Symmetry tends to kill motion, and contain the space....wanted the space uncontained, so the viewers mind would travel beyound what is depicted, into the realm of thier own imagination,...if that makes sense...plus just experimenting with composition...one of the biggest criticisms of Michelangelo's Last Judgement fesco, was it's centralised symmetry ...at the time when he painted it ....go figure..:scream:
....I think meaning trumps all else in this type of concept.:)

THANKS ...Ellie....Glad you enjoyed the symbolism, and the symbolic color also...:)

THANK YOU ...Frejasphere...a picture is worth a thousand words sometimes for sure.
Really glad you find meaning in this one....makes it worth the effort... :)

THANKS.....Intervain....Glad you enjoyed the colors....the symmetry...like I told MR MU..:)
The overlapping figures....guess that is just a matter of personal opinion....they do look a lot better and clearer when viewed bigger, as they are posted futher above on this page..
What is your opinion of the the masses of figures in michelanglo's last judgement fresco,..
just curious...

The story behind this painting is personal.
When I was in the Navy, the Vietnam War was raging on and on, Nixon was bombing the hell out of Vietnam, and the cold war with the Soviet Union was getting hot. And in the middle of this ordeal I was on the Thomas Jefferson, a Polaris nuclear submarine, carrying 16 intercontinental ballistic missiles. Each equipped with 2 nuclear warheads, each being 50x more destructive than those dropped on Japan in WWII. On my last patrol we went up by the Soviet Union and patrolled 2 miles off thier coast line. Were chased numerous times by their attack submarines and destroyers. But luckily were never caught and destroyed. I opened the missle hatches about 20 times during a 90 day period and went through the sequence or count down to fire the missles on each occasion, not knowing if it was the real deal or not, only the captain knew, Each time I shut the missle hatches back up I counted my lucky stars, cried a little inside and wondered why and how the world ever got so screwed up. My job on the sub was launcher technician which is to fire the missles, destroy continents and essentially all life on the planet. Had my finger on the button to end all of life far too many times. Been a nightmare in my life for 35 years now. This painting is a self portrait of that experience I had many years ago. An experience that haunts me to this day and probably til the day I die.
Used a mirror to paint my own image. Not bad for being 52. Lol.
So, Have a great day. Because you never know if it's going to be your last.
Take care

Glenn,

that is one intense memory/story and a well written one, too. Thanks for sharing that with us, I was totally thrilled and at the same time have the feeling I can understand your dedication and commitment(spelling?) much better now.

I talked with my daughter (5yrs) about your POLARIS painting (because she seemed to like it and asked who painted it) and according to her, there's a trap in the center, albeit on second inspection she said it might be a way of some sort, too... I don't know, but I think you got your message across...

thanks for a fresh dosis of surprise and intensity

Hi Glenn :)

This is the third time I try to post a reply to your last painting post  Trying to say something in response to the enormity of what you shared... somehow got the better of me!

Anyway, thanks for being brave enough to give an insight into your experiences and the background to your painting. Art is a vehicle of constant expression - gives us voices for what cannot be said in conventional ways... do keep that voice talking Glenn, and even if you keep having those nightmares, there are going to be sunny days too - and you are a survivor, both in the physical and spiritual sense! :)

dear SpiritDreamer/Glenn

unfortunately, your story is still very very relevant, but it's a really good thing that you've shared it with us.

Personally, I try to avoid watching the news for example - trying to raise my kids in a positive environment - and your words and self portrait are an acknowledgement to me that I have no reason at all to start watching it at all.
Thank you. All the best.

THANK YOU...MR MU.. ...Just figured that it is good to speak with your art,and heart.. of the times and events that make up your world,..on occasion, and leave behind something personal, that will maybe speak to the future about what shaped our world at this time.
Kind of the way Goya left behind a piece of his times in his personal works.. :)

THANK YOU....Frejasphere....Just trying to leave behind something worthwhile and honest.

Hi Glenn..
Great start on the head...

The grave experience of your youth moved me... Its so unfortunate that the most intelligent species of this world should massacre one another and tear this beautiful planet apart.. I started reading "Freedom at Midnight" the other day and was deeply saddened at how people in my country too cutdown their brothers in millions at the very eve of a hard-earned Independance.. seems like we humans are unsurpassed in our extreme senslessness as well as our superior intelligence.. We can only wish with all our hearts that such things dont repeat. As for your living with that experience, I can only imagine.. Your sharing of it is greatly appreciated.

I take it these are supposed to be highly stylised figure sculpts?
The problem is that it's hard for others to judge them, because only you know what they are supposed to look like.
Whatever criticism is level at them can be fully and accurately rebuffed with 'it's supposed to look like that''
It's probably a better idea to stick to realism in digital sculpting until you can sculpt it near perfectly, so then everyone can judge it fairly becasue they know exactly what it's supposed to look like, , and also have the knowledge that you can do it 'properly' before doing it your own way. It means there's nothing to hide behind. That's very important to me. Once you have that accomplished, then go on to stylisations and caricatures.
To me,they suffer from the almost ubiquitous problem of the novice zbrush sculptor, in that they look like formerly detailed ice sculptures that have melted a little.
The sense of movement and poses are nice though.
THe way I've found of getting sharper details wihtout insane poly counts (my centaur figure is only 250,000 polys minus the hair) is to use a small brush to cut in the muscle shapes, then use a larger brush to pull out the bulk of the shape itself, and then smooth the edges cuts. You have to keep smoothing and repeating that quite a lot though.

Perhaps you should build up your own selfesteem, before you go about trying to tear others apart.

I wasn't talking about your art skills, I was tlaking about your budding zbrush skills, hogarth didn't teach you that, and you weren't doing it before I was born.
You say I'm insceure, but it sounds like your the insecure one, in that you can't take the slightest amount of criticism without going beserk and threating violence.
Like I just told Siju.....BEAUTY TRUMPS ACCURACY EVERY TIME...:)
That's a very nice seniment, the sort of thing they teach you at art school no doubt- that everyone's a winner etc, but while accuracy is a tangible thing that can't be fooled, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and has no real meaning - who is to say what is beuatiful and what isn't?
Therefore, while you can hide behind personal ideals of beauty, you cannot hide when it comes to accuracy, it's open for all to see and judge.

Anyway, I see you're the type who likes to give criticism but can't take it, since YOU were TAUGHT by HOGARTH etc, etc,so we'll leave it as it is.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to step in here - I hate to see antagonism on this forum, so I'd like to say a few words which hopefully put a conclusion to the bickering.

Glenn / SpiritDreamer is a really valued member of our community here, and I don't wish to see him denegrated in a personal way. We all have our different points of view and we need to respect them. There are ways to critique work that come across in a less offensive way, and certainly when things get to a personal level of critique, then things have gone off topic and beyond the point of helping each other out as artists.

Personal bickering is not welcome on this forum, from any perspective or from any member.

From a neutral perspective, I don't think that oDDity's initial comments were meant to be particularly antagonistic, though I think you, oDDity, have a bit of a brusque writing style which may be offputting to some - though I don't think that your criticisms were really meant to be overly harsh, I think that they were meant to be helpful and honest.

At any rate - take it easy guys, I think everyone's points have been made and it's best to just agree to disagree here. :)

Cheers,

-Rebecca

did mostly life size face and head studies...great fun....now I am getting into Z BRUSH sculpting...even funner, and a lot less messy,..plus it allows me to combine the sculpture with my painting, which is a FANTASTIC thing to me, ..opens up a whole new realm of possibilities...new frontier for me...

Hi Glenn...
Wow!! nice compositions with the female figures! You have something great going on here...!
Btw.. have you tried increasing the smoothening in the "display" tab on your tool palatte in ZBrush? Here is what I do... After finishing the sculpt, I press F to switch off "quick" mode, go to the "display" tab on my tool palatte, push up the number-sliders in there... I forget the names... that way my model will not look faceted even if there are not enough polys in some places.. Then go up to the "render" menu.. switch on "shadows" and "best" and then take a screenshot. If you reposition your mesh after this, switch on "best" again before taking a screenshot. Probably you know this already... just wanted to make sure...:)

I really like the blue on red composition. Very nice color contrast. You might want to try out the masking technique on the kneeling figure. He's got enough resolution that you could quickly mask muscle areas and inflate them. I couldn't figure out the zspheres, so I may have to return to them someday. I always ended up getting a deflated side.

Sonny Liston had a very deep rich black ebony skin color,...should make a nice contrast to the rich warm caramel brown gold skin color of Casius Clay...Will have to tie the figures together colorwise, with the right colors in the surrounding atmosphere...just thinking ahead...:)

Hi Glenn,

great project! I had to think immediately of Mark Knopfler's great song about Sonny Liston on his album "Shangri-La" (get the album and the song! It's great!)

"the second-last child
was the second-last king
never again was it the same
in the ring

he had a left
like henry’s hammer
a right like betty bamalam
rode with the muggers
in the dark and dread
and all them sluggers
went down like lead"

Hi Glenn :)

Interesting theme you're working on here, it will be great to see where you take it...

Spinning off Johan's question: with your Zbrush... do you do sketches before you start? Playing around with the dynamics of poses and things like that? Sort of the way you'd do sketches and make little maquettes in clay before you do start the sculpture when working in non-digital 3D. Even though I've never tried any digital stuff, it seems to me that Zbrush is somewhere inbetween painting and sculpting; allowing you to do a bit of both in a sense... Perhaps working on a screen allows you to move through the sketching process straight into the modelling - in a way that you obviously can't when you are working with a hands on medium. Just thinking out loud here - and it would be great to see sketches if you do them :)

Keep enjoying and exploring!
take care
a. :)

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY....Johan..and...Annette .:) ...About drawing...I think that drawing is one of many means to an end, and is the foundation of good painting and sculpting..In a sense, it is like the crawling you do before you learn to walk.
I paint and sculpt without line...I paint by creating mass, volume, with value, and tone...my method, and examples of it can be found on pages...31, 34, and 35 of this thread...Titian was just one of many, who preffered this method of conceptulizing a thought..which in the end, is what it is all about, and is the final goal, for me anyway
In that regard, it doesn't make sense to go back to crawling, once you have learnt to walk..for me anyway...:) I have learned to draw, with a big brush, and have thrown away my pen, and line....many years ago...:) ...That's just me though..everybody aproaches things concerning art, in thier own way...that's what keeps it EVOLVING, and prevents it from becoming STAGNANT...:scream: :)
The Z brush SCULPTURES...well to me, they are just a means to creat nice forshortened views of figures, by being able to move them around, and to be able to posistion them so as to be seen from different angles and perpectives, and in the end, to creat paintings using them in that manner...CREATING 2D FROM 3D..:)
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FEEDBACK

The progress posts as you make ZBrush your own has been most fun to go through. Gives me a charge to get out and learn new media for expression. Your enjoyment of your projects come through SO strongly that one feels content after looking at your thread. It's a pleasure to see each new page of work as I perused what I could in one sitting.
I also will go back and follow your instruction on using Painter, a program that I find very intruiging, but, frustrating because I don't know it's shortcuts and controls as well as I do those in Photoshop. Thanks for providing a little direction on that program.

That is awesome, SpiritDreamer! I always liked 3D + 2D works. When a piece of 3D is left ant other stuff is 2D painted, so nice. But the way you painted it, your play with the light gives a 3D feeling to those painted areas. Great decision on those colors too. Warmer in the front, cooler in the back. And how the lying boxer is put a little in the myst/fog.
Yay, SpiritDreamer, you sure now what you're doing with that style of yours :)

HEY...Annand...THANK YOU....:) ...I used the the materials // marbles, for the skin colors, and also that render setting with best shadows that you told me about..that's great by the way,..really like the cast shadows it creats on the figures...wonder if there is a way to make cast shadows appear as though they are being cast by the figure onto the ground and background.. WITH THE Z BRUSH PROGRAM...
After I got the skin color in Z BRUSH, I put the figures into painter # 9..used the spotlights in effects // SURFACE CONTROL I think, APPLY LIGHTING for the background colors. Then I TWEAKED THE CONTRAST ect.until I got the skin colors the way I wanted them.
Then I painted the gloves and trunks with a large oil tinting brush...then went over those painted areas..trunks / gloves with the LIQUID METAL BRUSH ..SET TO TRANSPARENT..gives it that wet and shiny
look...like painting with liquid glass...goes good with the wet shiny look of the Z BRUSH effect I chose for the skin of the figures I THINK..JUST REALLY EXPERIMENTING WITH EVERY TRICK AND TECHNIQUE THAT I KNOW ON THIS ONE,..UNTIL I FIND WHAT WORKS IN THIS Z BRUSH // PAINTER # 9 COMBO TECHNIQUE THAT I'M EXPLORING...:scream: :)

I'm not sure how to respond to a death. I kind of feel cold about it, but I don't usually have a strong emotion to it. But than again nobody close to me has died, yet. Hopefully that will last for sometime, maybe another 30-40 years. Sometime I want to have kids and try to unload them on my parents, but I know they will get out of it. If they do turn out too obnoxious perhaps I can sell them than, on ebay I presume. I dunno if its good to counter death wtih dark humor though. :-(

Really impressive progress on the zbrush sculpting! The heads have great character and seem very controlled now. Years of real world sculpting experience leaking through! The boxing scene is very impressive! My only crit, but this is with the color choice. A little too bright for me, but that's a personal preference. But a suggestion would be to make the back more desaturated so that the fighters pop out more. It would be awesome if zbrush had true 3d lighting, but that's a whole new area to drive you nuts!

Playing around with Z BRUSH this morning....thinking of having the boxer in the corner of the ring, with his arms lying over the ropes, getting ready to pull himself up, for one more round.
I think the ropes and edges of the ring, might creat a nice perpective, leading into the boxer
Kind of a lead in with the ropes, and a lead out with the boxers gesture.
A lot of work left on the boxer, but it's a start.

Hi...Anand.....THANKS.:) ....Glad you are likeing these...Boxing gives me an endless set of poses that I can work with, and a nice variety of concepts within it to choose from.
I boxed a little while I was in the navy years ago, so now that experience is coming in handy
to get the feeling and proper stances that I want in these paintings that I am creating.
Billy Blanks had a studio here in Ouincy MA., where I live...Before he went out to Hollywood and got famous teaching TIBO,..LOL..:scream: ..he used to teach KARATE...I took lessons from him in the late 80's....After I get burned out on these boxing paintings, think I will do a series of paintings on KARATE...Will give me a chance to do some great hand and feet gestures, along with some great ACTION..:) ..Just thinking ahead here..:)
Will be a great way to put what I am learning with this Z BRUSH, to use, I THINK.

HEY...Trunks...THANKS..Been awhile..Hope your school went OK....Im going back to school myself, in January..taking a figure drawing class , 29 sessions..The teacher got his masters in FLORANCE ITALY:bounce: ...his name is Vico Fabbris...teaches at my old school here in Boston.
I don't know how good he is , but it should be fun..I have been feeling the need to get back into some conti crayon and pastel work lately..been too long. This class should get me back into the swing of things pretty quick, I THINK..:)
About the head being too small on that last boxer....that is the first time I ever tried pasting a head onto a figure, with a layer...I made it a little bit bigger, and it didn't look right somehow, so I left it at the size where I thout it looked the best..:scream: Next one will be better hopefully..still experimenting with this technique, will get it right, sooner or later...LOL.:scream:

Hey Glenn,
Enjoying your enjoyment of Zsculpting. Have you seen Steve Huston's work before? http://hustonart.com He was one of my teachers when I worked at the studios. He helped me to describe figures in a more flowing sense. His themes often were about boxers in action. He came in with a black eye once, so I know he was a major enthusiast in the sport. I really think you may find his work, I was gonna say inspirational but can see that's not an issue, interesting.

Nice! The walking boxer looks great with taht lighting. And his pose is good. But it doesn't mach with the other boxer, because he looks that he has just been hit and the other looks too calm after making that hit. Though I might be wrong about this.
And one thing I don't like about it is the effect throughout the whole image, look very random and distracts the eye.
This image could be like a street fight, the lighting gives me such an idea. It seems that it's a street light, dunno.

HEY...RAZZ....THANKS for stopping by...always a pleasure hearing from you..:)
I have a personal theory when it comes to painting from the imagination. I think it is better to start with imperfection, and work towards perfection as the painting progresses.
Kind of the way when you look at a stain on a wall, or a cloud in the sky, your imagination kicks in, and creats what logic doesn't see, but only becomes evident when it is painted.
I see things in the overall texture, lighting ect. , some of the things I see will stay, and become other things ..kind of thing..:scream:
Know you are having a problem creating from the imagination, so I thought my theory worth mentioning ...Don't be afraid to make mistakes....learn how to use them to your advantage.
That is a key element to a susessful painting done from the imagination...just my opinion..:)

HEY...Demented...THANKS....Do a hundred paintings, and a couple of them might be worth saving...just a case of ...ODDS...:scream: ....Glad you enjoyed that one you mentioned..:)

Yes! Now really awesome, Glenn! I like the colors a lot. Thinking about those ropes, do they give a + to the composition or don't they, but I'm weak at this point. The standing boxers head looks a tad too small I think. In my opinion you should choose the view you had in the previous wip, where the viewer is IN the ring, not watching the fight from outside. I feel so strange giving crits to you, 'cause you have so much more knowledge than I do. Oh well...:)

wow, real intense colors and feel here. somehow the heads look a bit orkish to me, but that could be too much lord of the rings this weekend ;)

im not too sure about the ropes either, i think it would be more intense without them. there is also something about the gloves that is bothering me but maybe its only that they are so flat and undone compared to the detailed faces.

will wait for an update and see then ;)

great to see you update. the human in the forground improved big time, does look real human not orkish anymore. i think the problem with the other one are those sphere like thinks on both sites of the nose. get rid of those and he will look much more human.

its much more consistens now without the ropes in the foreground now by the way.

i realized whats bothering me about those gloves. its mostly the right glove of the foreground human. i think it would help big time if you make him but the hand more vertical. that way it wont look so cubish.

yea, it realy has been a long time but there was so much to do at university plus some real long time in hospital but now im back and online and so excited to be around all you people again :D

cheers

Dear Glenn,

I think the tension would be even higher if the standing boxer would have a rather agressive look on his face, maybe his upper lip curled upward... like he's saying something like "... and now you stay down!" :)

I also agree on the nostrils with Llynna.

Colors are indeed awesome... very lively without going over the top, but then again that's one of your strongest skills (imho)

Always looking forward to see more Glenn!

Gotta run off for now... busy times at work

HEY...Anand...THANK YOU...This is the second time that I've tried pasting heads onto a figure...kind of tricky, but has some advantages for what I'm doing at the moment.
Will have to get actual photo portraits of ALI, and JACK JOHNSON to make nice head sculptures that actually look like the fighters that I am representing for my final versons that I have in mind for this series I think...Glad you are enjoying these. It's been a lot of fun for me doing them..learning a lot as I go along, which is always nice..:)

Little further on this experiment...trying for some DaVinci lighting...Saw his second Madona of the rocks painting for real a few years ago when it was in BOSTON...The lighting was pure magic.
Had a lot to do with the way his colors came out of the darkness I think..so subtle as to be hardly visible,..but without them there..would be no magic.
I will never be able to even come close to getting that kind of magic in my lifetime, but it is so much fun trying...:scream:

I like your last piece very much! But for me it is a little to early to call it "done". You should spent a little time into his hands ... this hands are really bad. Ok so they are not bad ... maybe you like the hands how they look now ... but hey I don't like them so I tell you ;)

A little reflection in his eyes would be awesome ... just a little mirror (ok forget about this idea !). We are talking in my art lessons about mirrors and images in images ... crazy stuff :D

Lesson learned : Never say done! LOL
Couldn't resist making the hands bigger to go more with the original painting. Not exactly the same, but close.
Appreciate any opinions on them.

Thanks...

Hi SpiritDreamer!

I think the hands do indeed look better in your last pic. They fit with his whole body more.
IMO the face is a bit too saturated though, and the rag a bit too green. Maybe if it was a bit more blue tinted it'd fit next to the smaller portrait more..well just my thoughts on it anyway. Great job you've done!

In the end, I decided to get out of the muted shadows of darkness, and go for the brighter colors that I really enjoy seeing in a painting.

I am really fascinated with how you managed to make this as close to the original as possible while at the same time making it a true and unique Gallegos!

Just unwinding and having some fun this morning with the baby painting that FateBringer / Mark is working on in his thread.
Needed to let the old imagination run free for a moment, after spending so much time on that Ingres painting...:)

hi

wow...wow, really like what you did with this  Awesome. And to think I didn't paint tonight because i was dreading working on the hand or more on the blanket, accually got in quit a miserable mood thinking about it. also thinking i was going in the wrong direction with it. every thing on babies i could find was light and airy. Now you've inspired me and i can go to bed happy and continue again tomarrow night. Thanks! :)

HEY...Mark...:)
Glad you enjoyed what I did with that baby painting of yours...I was just going to explore ways of modifying the color on it, and got a little carried away in the process...:scream:
If you can, get a book called HALLELUJAH ANYWAY, by an artist named ..Patrick Woodroffe....He has one of the best imaginations that I have ever seen, and has a beautiful way of doing paintings with babies and children...creates a whole other world for and with them.
I have had that book for years now...still one of my favorite tresures...:)

Hi.....RAZZ..:)

It has never been in the past, present, or will be in the future, my intention to impress
That's not what this forum is about, or created for.
I'm here to learn from others what I don't know, and to help others learn from me hopefully what I do know, and have learned from others along the way..:)
Impressing people is a fools game, that can only lead to an inflated ego, and a blinded SPIRIT..:)

SpiritDreamer, I have never meant, nor I ever will, that you create these pieces to impress someone. No, no way. You got me wrong. Well, it might have seemed that way with what I've written in the my last post. But it's not like that.
I know what we're all here for :)

Well Glenn whether you like it or not but you (and others) are leaving a huuge impression on me (and others) of what can be achieved :)

It's what makes this forum great... there are a lot of positive triggers - stimuli - and most are even unintended

HEY...RAZZ....NOT A PROBLEM...:scream:
Words creat visions. That's why it is important to word your thoughts exactly, and properly, so they don't get misinterpreted,
just like any vision that you may creat..:)
But anyway, it is always a great pleasure to hear from you,and am waiting to hear your thoughts about the work of Patrick Woodroffe.
I posted that for you because you are asking for help on your thread in ways to develope your imaginational skills, and he came to mind when I read what you wrote..just trying to help you out some, and guide you in a good direction, that's all...:)
A good, but not the only way to exercise your imagination, is to interpret a poem visually... JUST A PASSING THOUGHT..:)

And I can't come by this forum without popping in on one of my favourite threads! Hope you're well Glen, and that you had a joyous christmas and new year! The Ingres copy is beautiful, makes me wish I'd had time to finish my own study... I love the little glen twists on it too, the colours are something you make your own. As are these zbrush studies! I really like the 13th Jan one, he looks like a real character, I could imagine him as a tibetan monk giving his students a hard time! And I love the neck on the last one too... it's hard to believe you've not done figure drawing for so long, these rally would tell me otherwise if I didn't know. Lovely stuff, as ever.

HEY...Icey....THANKS..:) ....You'll get to that painter program, sooner or later, I have faith in you...all in good time...one day at a time...

HEY...Johan...THANK YOU..Went to that class last night, no drawings, just getting to know each other..nice group of six people, ..all alot younger than myself, including the teacher, but it's all in the mind you know..:scream: Teacher seemed to know his stuff, and has a good sense of humor, which is really nice, and helps alot...small class, should be able to learn alot I think...start with the model tomarrow...will post some stuff from there, when I feel it is up to par..shortly I hope..:) Anyway, thanks for the encouraging words, and thoughts..

Zephyri...Spirit Wind...THANK YOU..Always a real pleasure when you blow into my world ..:)
Funny you mentioned that about the tibetan monk look on that Z BRUSH face that i'm working on...This morning I was working on his eyes, and decided to leave them witout the pupils, because he remindes me of the old blind master teacher in the tv show from many years ago
KUNG FU, with David Caridine..and now you just said that he looked like a Tibetan monk teacher.....:)
SO WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN..YOUNG GRASSHOPPER..:scream:

Anand...THANKS....I did my first figure studies in that class last night.
Been 30 years since I picked up a conti crayon and drew using a live model...like riding a bike, came back instantly..to my surprise..:scream:
The teacher went out and found me a 4 by 8 ft. piece of masinite, so I can do life size figures, and there is a big roll of 4 ft. wide, thick brown
paper that the school provides free...perfect for the conti crayons...
Will post some of those studies when I figure out how to use this digital camera I have, been putting that off now for months..too many buttons...:scream:

Trunks...THANKS...Going to have to go back and review that Z BRUSH
DVD I have...That program gives me a huge headache, must have been designed by a rocket scientist...will get those textures sooner or later, probably LATER...:scream:

Samanthie...THANK YOU...Really glad you stopped by, and also really glad that you have a thread going now..I hope to see some more of that beautiful soft shading of yours going on in there...

MARK...THANKS....They just started showing repeats of KUNG FU here in Boston..hadn't seen it in years..must have been in my head when I did that face...ONLY THE GRASSHOPPER KNOWS FOR SURE..:scream:

HEY...Aggie...I must be getting closer to my goal, if you can't figure out if it is 2d, or 3d.....:scream: ....THANKS FOR STOPPING BY..

Hi Glenn, I wonder what you are going to do with this "painting from your mind" ? Are you planing to work more on it? Or will you just leave it like it is now?

Maybe you should attempt to use hard brushes when you do some quick doodlings? I think this might be a tipp that could help to get your ideas more clear on paper :)

Trunks...THANKS....Just a thumbnail sketch, will get to it sooner or later maybe, will always be there now, saved for the times when I am lacking for an idea for a painting.:) I don't care for the hard brushs in the beginning sketch phase, I SAVE THOSE BRUSHS FOR THE DETAILS AT THE END...just me and the method of painting that I am comfortable with...Thanks for the tip though..you never know..:)

HEY...Icey...GREAT to hear from you...doing a series of these little painting thumbnail sketches...just trying to loosen up a little in preperation for my next figure drawing class...using conti crayons for that class right now,..will switch to pastels, and full color about halfway through the course..think these little color thumbnail paintings I'm doing now, will get me ready for the pastels later in that figure drawing class...I hope anyway..:scream: time will tell..:)
I will post some drawings from that class, after I have a few gathered..kind of a pain to have to take photos, and then scan, and then post...but will get some in here for sure..soon..:scream: :)
