A Right Cross Knockdown, and A Clinch where the one boxer pulls the other boxer in close by the back of the neck with his glove and then nails him with a left hook...Just combining the different poses I created with these boxers this morning to see what different scenes can be created using them.

WIP. Adjusted the torque between the pelvis and torso..more compression on his right side flank muscles, and more stretch on his left side flank muscles..changing the angle of his shoulders....Also bent his legs at the knees for more ballence...adjusted his right foot so he is more grounded and ballanced..Finally starting to get a gesture now that is worth refinement..http://www.zbrushcentral.com/images/smilies/smile.png

WIP. Just a little Dynamic light/shade/shadow study this morning...while trying to figure out how the new BPR filter system works.
I gave up for the moment, and went into Corel Painter #10 to get the result I wanted...I wanted to get it in ZBRUSH, but couldn't figure out how to achieve it...Oh well,..tomarrow is another day..maybe i'll figure it out then..I would like to be able to stay in ZBRUSH to get what i'm after,..kind of a pain going back and forth between programs...I'll figure it out sooner or later,..hopefully sooner..http://www.zbrushcentral.com/images/smilies/smile.png...I want the cast shadows to be darker where they start,..and then get lighter as they get further away from the object that is casting them..

WIPS...Just doing some experiments in Light Cap this morning, while trying to learn how it works..I saved and used the light setup and material that I used for this bud vase and flower that I recently made..Then I used that same lightcap setup on the boxers, just to see how it would look...Just an experiment to see what would happen if I took the lighting and material from one scene, and put it into another scene..Lots of fun http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/img/zbc_style/smilies/biggrin2.gif

Yep,..i'm still having alot of fun with ZBRUSH..LOL...and still AMAZED by it..:D ..MAGIC:bounce:
I have some ideas for that flower thing..will finish it for sure when I get through with this boxing action drama that I got hooked on..One day at a time, and not enough hours in the day..LOL.

WIP...ZBRUSH 4R2..DynaMesh...LightCap

Repositioned the arms on both boxers this morning, and then resculpted the shoulder joints and surounding muscles to get the muscle action and movement in place...Thinking of the Mohammad Ali / Joe Frazier title fight where Joe Frazier kept coming on and pushing forward like a frieght train, hence Smokin Joe Frazier..and Mohammad Alie kept pounding away at Joe Fraziers head while trying to keep him at bay...Both fighters took a beating in that one, if I recall correctly..But Mohammad Ali regained, and walked away with the championship title one more time..http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/img/zbc_style/smilies/biggrin2.gif

Just doing a little experimenting with the lights and materials on these boxers this morning..Need to figure out how, and the best way to make the four corner post and ropes for the ring next..The answer may be in one of those new classroom demo's..maybe the one with the bolts sticking out of the sphere at the end of it...A whole lot to learn yet, and deffenity a challenge for me..One day at a time, and lots of baby steps for this old dog that's trying to learn something new..http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/img/zbc_style/smilies/biggrin2.gif

Did alot of work and sculpting on these two boxers to get more of a likeness of Mohammad Ali and Joe Frazier..This is the second fight they had..where Mohammad Ali won when the fight was called off by the ref because Joe Frazier wasn't looking too good... both eyes closed up and his forhead was swelled up pretty good...Good call by the ref.
Next i'm going to do their first fight..where Joe Frazier came on strong as Smokin Joe was known to do and nailed Mohammad Ali with a massive left hook that sent Mohammad Ali falling to the canvas ..losing him that fight..This will be in honor of Joe Frazier who just passed away yesterday..R.I.P. Joe Frazier..Gone, but Not Forgotten

It's been a while since I visited and it's great to see you still powering along with inspiration and dedication here :wavey: I was driving home from work only yesterday and heard about Joe Frazier... you're certainly picking subjects in the moment (even though you're working on a past event). Your 3D work is really going places Glenn - to me this piece is starting to look like a slow motion shot: complete with 'sound effects' et all :) Nicholas Dunlop, a film artist from Australia - and the Australian Dance Company, created a movie using ultra-slow-motion camera where short clips show people interacting through dance, boxing, argument and other drama - these were then shown on large billboards across the world... Funny how things happen sometimes...I didn't have any particular fight in mind when I started this experiment about a month ago or so....Just found out that Joe Frazier was sick and getting ready to pass on the 6th of Nov....and here I am working on this historic sequence of fights between Mohammad Ali and Joe Frazier for the last couple of weeks....Life is Strange at Times,..Makes me wonder sometimes...Am I just a Pawn in some Strange Game..http://www.zbrushcentral.com/images/smilies/eek.png

Anyway,..Started on the fight this morning between Mohammad Ali and Joe Frazier...The first fight between them ..The one where Joe Frazier knocks Mohammad Ali to the canvas with that massive and deadly powerful left hook of his.

Oh great that you liked it - seeing your latest work made me think of this film. I watched the 'making of' documentary a while back; the concept and the imagery is fascinating. It's almost surreal the way the motion of colliding bodies creates a whole world of its own (which we don't see at normal speed) :)

Hi. Annette...:) Yep,..That slow motion deffenitly creates a surreal feeling to the action taking place...Kind of like what Salvadore Dali had in mind with his Persistence of Memory painting and those Soft Watches of his and the distortin of Time that they describe and depict..:)

Some more work done on the gesture of Joe Frazier as he lands that powerful left hook of his, and sends Mohammad Ali flying down to the canvas in their first title fight....I will work more on the gesture of Mohammad Ali next...Once the gestures are there, I will refine the sculpts, get their emotions in place for the action taking place, and make them look like who they are, and what they were going through.

Wrapping these fight scenes up for now...I got what I was after in each fight...the essence of the fight.
The first fight where Joe Frazier pounds Mohammad Ali over and over again with that powerful left hook of his, finally knocking him down at the end of the fight, and keeping his title.
The third and last fight between these two, where Mohammad Ali wins the fight after Joe Frazier's corner man calls it off after the forteenth round due to the closed eyes and extreme swelling of the forhead of Joe Frazier.
Both fighters took an extreme beating in this last fight between them...Mohammad Ali later said that it was the closest thing to death that he had ever experienced.
Anyway,..I learned alot while doing this set of fight sequences, and that's what counts the most...Now it's time to learn some more about all of these new and Great features in ZBRUSH...Lots of experimenting and exploring ahead..http://www.zbrushcentral.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I like the added colour to their shorts - really sets off the scene :) You have definitely captured two struggling men in action; the pain is there and the immovable mountain of the opponent is there, and somewhere in the middle of it all is a sense of gentlemanliness (if that's a word :D ),
I think you have come a long way in creating a tribute to both boxers.

Hey Thank you Annette..Really appreciate your support..and kind words..:)
Funny how different this forum is, and the people within it,... than the forum at ZBRUSH Cental is, which is where I have another sketchbook going on...I've about had it with that forum, The only reason I opened a sketcbook up over there, was to get some help in learning ZBRUSH, from the people who know it best,..but the only thing that i've gotten so far from them, is a hard time, alot of insults and grief, with the exception of a very few, who stand up to the Cleque and very Juvenile mentality that rules over there in that forum...It's a pity, but it's also very true none the less...Anyway, at least there is this forum where there is a better class of artist, and people involved in the learning process..and i'm very thankful for that...:)

Can't say that I understand this forum, or appreciate my post being taken off of the bottom row, but such is the way in here, and I will live with it..Just doesn't say much for the forum,..That's just my personal opinion though, for whatever it's worth.

At least I know that there is a forum with some truth in it, a place where juvenile taste is not accepted as the norm,..and a place where my work is still appreciated, and welcomed...A place where pettyness and nitpicking bullsh...t and censorship doesn't happen on a daily basis...Thank God for CG TALK, is all I have to say.
ZBRUSH is a wonderful software, ..It's just a shame that it has a narrow minded clique running the show in this forum.
Now go ahead and censor this, and show your true colors one more time.

I thought I was done with these boxing scenes...I guess I was wrong..LOL...Going to turn them into paintings...Not satisfied with the stiff look that I get with ZBRUSH..They always end up looking like painted sculptures to me, which is not what i'm after...I want them to look like paintings in the end..so that's what i'm going to go for with these boxing scenes that i've been working on lately..I have to have something that I can relate to when I paint, and these scenes are it..:)

I do like the painted version - fresh eyes can make all the difference (even when they are your own :) ). I thought your comment was interesting about ZBRUSH looking like painted sculptures... Years ago I used to work in clay, but in the end I realised that my main goal with the medium all along, had been to create a canvas to paint on... :curious: It sort of woke me up in terms of where I wanted to be - and I found it so liberating to go back to painting and drawing, mainly because I no longer had to push a medium to be something it wasn't ever truly going to be... :)

This may not be how you approach ZBRUSH at all, and you have taken this software to heart - learning and experimenting and creating your own style. I just thought the comment was interesting :)

Also - I read your comments about the ZBRUSH central forum... It truly is one of the most scary and exposing things: to put your work on display for people to crit or praise as they see fit. But it is also one of the most rewarding things (artists must like living on the edge :arteest: ), as feedback can lead to new insight and learning and communication with like-minded people. :) Personally I feel that any critique should be given constructively and with consideration of the person you are critiquing - I cannot see the point in telling someone that their work is crap - ever. When I was teaching I had students with very different skill levels, and to me it felt important to tailor critique to each individual student, rather than adopting a blanket approach for all...

So where am I going with this rambling...? :banghead: Basically, I think it is important to focus on constructive feedback and ignore flippant comments... :thumbsup:

Hi Annette..:) Yep, sometimes I get lost between painting and sculpture..easy to do when working with ZBRUSH...But I always find my way back home to painting, which is where my heart llies, and always will..Just using the 3d aspect of ZBRUSH to spin the figures around so I can creat different compositions with and from them...Compositions to be turned into paintings, least I forget, which happens often...Need to corect that fault line in my journy... someday..:scream:
About the crits...I love and learn from good ones, but I hate cheap shots from people who don't know what they are talking about..and i've lived long enough and created enough art in my life to know the difference between the two...No good can come from it when you argue with a fool...That is the biggest and toughest lesson that i've learned while trying to learn over in ZBRUSH Central...As is said...Live and Learn...both from mistakes, and from accomplishments:)

Been studying the boxing paintings of George Bellows..His darker versions seem much more powerful and dynamic than his lighter scenes where everything in the scene is depicted clearly, so I thought I would try my hand at a darker version of this scene of mine this morning...I am going to expand the canvas to include the onlookers at some point on these scenes of mine..I just want to get the main stage and focal point set in place properly first.:)

Interior scenes, and the perspectives that go with them is not my strong point,..but hopefully I will get and have a better feel for them by the time I finish with this gym scene series that i'm attemting at present...Just pushing myself to learn my unfamilars and stenghten my weaknesses so I can create what my minds eye actually see's...Time will tell if i'm sucessful in this endevor or not...Ether way,..it's always a fun challenge trying..http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/img/zbc_style/smilies/biggrin2.gif
I will work more on that speed bag, the swevel it hanges from, and the the cylinder platform they attach to as I go along......for sure.
I also want to put a boxing body bag and a guy punching it,..maybe another guy skipping rope, and maybe even another doing bench presses with weights...all of the routines that go on in a boxing gym....Maybe even a full size mirror on one of the walls, like they have in dance studios....Will give me something to work on while I try to figure out all of the new features that ZBRUSH keeps coming up with... Maybe in these times, the world is just plane missing a true Champion..Myself,I haven't seen one since Mohammad Ali ...He united people from all around the world in causes that were greater than himself, and did it by doing it in the ring and out of the ring also, with his stance against the war in Vietnam and all war in general....Before him, there was Joe Louis who in defeating Max Schmeling from Germany, showed the world that Hitler was wrong in his belief that he had created a super race of humans...and before Joe Louis there was Jim Braddock who in the time of the Great 1930's depression gave a feeling of hope to the average working class people who were in dire straits at the time that hey, a lost cause can still become champion, and can do it in spite of dispair..Boxing had a powerful symbolic purpose and strenght which united and gave strenght to the working class underdog...something which is lacking in these current times unfortunitly...But hey,..who knows what lies ahead,..maybe a New Champion will emerge from the shadows when the world once again becomes truely in need of one..who knows...It's a one in a million longshot..which always has been the case when it comes to boxing..and true Champions of the People.http://www.zbrushcentral.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Some more fun with and work done this morning on this ZBRUSH gesture study using the new Dynamesh feature in ZBRUSH...Inserted a few sphere's here and there onto the original foundation gesture that I created yesterday, and then stared pushing and pulling here and there with the move topological brush in ZBRUSH to get the curves and flow of the major muscle groups in place before I start sculpting on the figure.

Thank You Maciej :) Yep, i'm going to put this guy in the boxing gym scene that i'm working on..posted a couple of pages back in here I think..He will be sitting in a dark shadowed corner of the gym somewhere in the scene..most likely up in the forground as I have him in the sketch posted a couple of pages back.
Mainly just experimenting with this scene and theme as I go along trying to learn the things in ZBRUSH that might be useful to me in creating digital paintings.
I'm not an animator, so alot of the stuff that's a must for animation I can get away without having to bother with..In the end, I just get out the old digital brushes in Corel Painter and paint whater needs to be fixed or enhance the piece..so it resembles a painting...a traditional one in the end... hopefully...:D

Doing some polypainting with ZBRUSH this morning..Worked on the tree, and the waterfalls..starting to put the rocks in the waterfalls, to give them more depth and to add a varity to the flow and rhytms of the water as it cascades downward.

Some more work done on this piece this morning...Placing the rocks in the waterfall, and some uprooted trees in the forground that have been swept away by the water in some previous rain storm...Need to put the water traveling around and over the rocks next...and texture the trees so they look like they have been there for awhile...same thing with the rocks...moss and plants growing on them ect.

Trying something new for me...Lighting a single layer 2.5 D scene inside of ZBRUSH...I usually take the scene into Corel Painter to do the lighting...But just discovered that the lights now work on a 2.5D single layer scene in this latest version of ZBRUSH..I never could get them to do anything on my single layer 2.5D scenes before...So now I have something new to explore and experiment with regarding lighting a single layer 2.5D scene..Great http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/img/zbc_style/smilies/biggrin2.gif

Some more practice this morning with lighting and color using polypaint and some of the other newer features in ZBRUSH 4R3, such as FiberMesh and LightCap...The man in this piece is the practice model that comes with ZBRUSH,..The rest is all mine, and all done within ZBRUSH.
Done just as a quick practice study to get used to the new features within ZBRUSH.

I really like the way you use ZBrush - it's very inspiring! Are you putting together several different models in Zbrush and then rendering or rendering first and then compositing in some other software? (Photoshop?)

Did you try ZBrush 4R2 as well? If you did, how is the new FiberMesh different?

Hi Vilhelmina and Thanks.:) These last few scenes with the bears and waterfalls are sculpted 3d models done entirerly in ZBRUSH..No rendering done...just using the Shadow Preview feature in the reder section of ZBRUSH...I'm adding in other elements that I sculpted, such as rocks, bears ect to the original 3d landscapes that I made to start with..... the plants and foilage/grasses are 3D ztl tools that I made using the new FiberMesh feature in ZBRUSH...Then in the end, I am polypainting for some of the textures and colors, and am using the new LightCap feature in ZBRUSH to do the lighting.
On some of the earlier done bear scenes, I did render in ZBRUSH, and then export to the Corel Painter program, did some compositing there, and then imported back into ZBRUSH to work futher in that program on the externally composited version of the bear scene...But lately, to get the results that i'm after,... i've been trying to stay within ZBRUSH as much as possible, from start to finish...with the new features in ZBRUSH 4 R3, that is finally a possibility come true..:)

Hi Madio :) You are right about the eyes.being the key to the action and composition:thumbsup:
I always wait until the end to do the fine details and accents ect...Composition,lighting,shade,shadow,color are key to a solid foundation to build upon,..and always come first...just like when you build a house..you start with the foundation first...and the details are done last....like the iceing on a cake so to speak..:)
An old and proven method of working practiced by all of the OldMasters...To do the details first,...would be like putting the cart before the horse.:eek: Just doesn't work that way..:D

Experimenting with some ZBRUSH lighting this morning, to bring the forground into the forground ,and a little more polypainting, in the middle ground and background...Still a ton of stuff to do on it yet.

Vilhelmina...Thank You...:) ..Still a ways to go on that one yet...Mostly just experimenting and exploring the new ZBRUSH features, and using some older works that I did a few months ago to practice what I learn on...Hard to keep up with all of the great new stuff that ZBRUSH is coming up with in these latest few updates of theirs...Great and exciting program to work with...endless possibilities..for creating and developing new methods to work with..:)

Thank You Splinter :) Those new features in ZBRUSH like the FiberMesh and LightCap are Amazing, and great additions to that program...I just wish that they had come out earlier on with them, because I have a ton of works that would really benifit from those new features alot...That's why i'm going back and selecting some older works at present to take a few steps further with and on them.using these new features within ZBRUSH....Polishing up some diamonds in the rough that have just been collecting dust so to speak..:)
