View Full Version : DPIT glitch
JoelOtron 12-10-2005, 06:53 PM Hey Samir (or any other dpit users)---your forum was down so I thought I'd post here.
I am still having probs with an issue that comes up randomly. When I add a plantvolume object I get a series of lines converging on a point in the editor. Sometimes its only an editor glitch, sometimes it exists in the render (usually in cases where I make the object editable). Is there any fix avaailable to this--or a known conflict of some kind? Under a deadline and was hoping to use dpit for this job.
Thanks
-Joel

Hi Joel,
Yes this does happen to me, too. We think this is a mac thing. It should be fixed soon, though, from what I hear. Well I can't speak for Samir, but he is aware of it.

Hey ernia
I thought I saw something recently but was hoping it was on the fast track so I could get through this project. Things are going OK ---nt having any renderprobs--its just hard to see what Im working on in the editor.
This image still needs lots of bp mapping and lighting work---but it shows that dpit isnt too shaabby at doing hair.

Yes not bad at all, Joel :)
What's that about taking some part of the body away and the others try an make up for it? I guess after the haircut this guy developed accute hearing ability ;)
As for the viewport visibility, I've noticed that sometimes making a small change like a seed number or setting somewhere will reduce the problem. Sometimes.

Also standing on my head and reciting the Gettysburg Address worked...once ;)
Yeah--got a lot of stuff to fix--its a camera mapped image that needs loads of tweaking.
--just at the beginnings of this project. Poor guys gonna have his brain poked at.

LOL! It's funny how great speeches from Presidents will do that, however, I have a sneaking suspicion that it's 'ol Honest Abe himself that is cajoling your equipment--he's just hinting how good he really is with that axe ;)
Be sure and let us have a peek when you're finished. I always like to see your work.

Well--not finished--ear not lined up and a few other tweaks. But DPIT worked out pretty well for hair in this case. I would have loved to give it a shot with HAIR--but that wont be ready for a few weeks.

I've been working fine with DPIT as long as I keep "plant volume", which is what generates the polys, set to "render only". Thought sniper would help to see how the hairs were looking but this is what I get in sniper:

So I gotta render the scene each time I want to see how things are looking.
EDIT--one more view--almost done this stage--gotta tweak the eye and brow to match the closed eye.

Hi,
yes, this is a MAC thing. But I am now, thanks to Arik, able to test DPIT on a MAC. I have it home now and will set it up so I can start testing this week. I will then try to fix any MAC related bugs as soon as possible and provide a patch.
Thanks for your patience!
Best

One thing to consider Samir--is that the problem may be a G5 thing only (I havent tried it on a G4) as well as a graphics driver issue (?). And make sure you have the latest OS which is 10.4.3 I believe. Glad you are looking into it.

Thanks for the hint Joel. I will try that all. :)
My tests were on C4D 9.1, 9.5, 9.52. Configuration below. Same issues as Joel.
I'll have a quad G5 in a couple weeks if you want me to test against that. :bounce:
