Hello,

consider this as an early christmas gift to say Thank You for your ongoing support of our plugins.
It is a shader that can render objects with any visibility without showing the backside of the object. So it works like changing the visibility of a PhotoShop layer and not as C4D renders alphas.
Here are 2 very basic movies showing the shader in action. The first movie shows the animation of the visibility (about 6.7 MB):
Movie 1 (http://www.vreel-3d.de/plugins/FreeStuff/Movie.mov)
The second movie shows the combination with a surface shader. You can see that even the reflection of the objects looks right (about 8.1 MB):
Movie 2 (http://www.vreel-3d.de/plugins/FreeStuff/Movie2.mov)

I think the shader works easy enough so no docu os needed. You can download it here.
Load plugin here (http://www.vreel-3d.de/plugins/FreeStuff/XRay.zip)

The scene file of the second movie is included in the archive.
The shader runs on Win PCs and Macs and needs at least C4D V9.1.
Hope you like it (works great for architectual vis) :)

Thanks arndt!

I do lots of anatomical animations where layers dissapear revealing underlying layrs, muscle, bone organs, etc. I usually have to do many many passes of many different scenes. This might prove to be very helpful!

Should be of great help then. There is just a little limitation to it. If you use the shader on several objects in the scene, take care that those objects don't intersect. It is OK if one object is completely within another object or completely outside of it, but intersecting parts don't render with the right transparency. That's the only limitation I know of ;)

Hello Kent,
just unzipp the archive into C4Ds plugins folder. After you launched C4D, you can find the XRay shader within the shaders menue. Just have a look at the enclosed sample file to get the idea of how to use it.

Hello,
as far as I can remember, Buffy was related to the surface Normals, only rendering faces with Normals that point toward the camera, no?
XRay works very different as it renders only the first surface found and hides all deeper surfaces. This even works with very complex objects.
See what happens with Buffy on this cube that has some extruded faces. The backside of the cube is hidden, but you can still see the checkerboard pattern behind the extruded polygons.

Hi
Thanks alot! Have always wanted a tool to achive a more graphical look in C4d.
Its just so much easier to make 3d objects "become" 2d shapes in a design with this plug.
This is very helpfull!

Merry x-mas Arndt.
