View Full Version : Concept Art (*Big DL*)
brasshorse 11-23-2002, 07:45 PM Hi everyone. :) Man, it's been a long time since I've posted here. Well, here's a bunch of concept art (sorry, 56kers). I've been colouring a lot more lately, and updating my site more often. Anyhow, any feedback about my art or site is appreciated and thanks a bunch for taking a look.

niceness! Great work on your site!
Hey brasshorse, great work! My only crit is that the colored stuff IMO suffers from a lack of contrast. Particularly the first image you posted. The design, detail, linework, etc. is awesome, but the whole thing comes across as really flat. If I squint my eyes, the whole thing blurs into a dark mass with orange highlights (though my moniter could be a bit too dark too). I think even the little grey guy at the bottom could use more range. But that aside, great stuff. Keep posting!

Absolutely love the anatomy and detailing you manage to get into your critters. Tha autumn beast, I saw that on your site earlier..jeez..what can I say:p ...best thing Ive seen in ages.
But I agree with jake, you need to do something to make the character stand out from the backgrounds. I would say either make the backgound lighter or darker than the character, and use stronger light sources in your shading. Sometimes I find a secondary 'rim' of light from the side ( opposite from the main light source) can help make the character look more rounded and 3D.

Oh. My. Goodness. That's some of the most beautiful and clean linework I've ever seen! The details (like folds, wrinkles, etc. ) you put on your creatures sure do tell alot about your knowledge of forms and muscles! Your characters have a sort of 3d-ness even when they're not colored! Killer stuff!

"Keep it up dude!"
I'm a lil' bit in rush now but... I got to take a minute and post a reply in this thread!!!
I really dig your monsters Aaron (especially the first one with those yellow tatoos)... and nothin' to say about the others (btw, impressive works on your website too)... you got this Sam Liu's linework that we all love a lot I guess and that's good!! :D
Maybe more expression on this guy's face would be better...but anyway...you rock man! :bounce:

jerontje- Hey, sorry about that. I read over the rules and I saw the part about only posting more than one image if it was linked from my own site..didn't see the new 'mass posting portfolio' thing. Sorry, again.
DocBoom- Haha no..not a Pokemon. Just a little critter thing. Glad you like it. Yeah that robot is used to pick fruits and he carries them on his back in those buckets. The tree is enchanted and gives him power..cheesy, I know. :)
Agent D- Heh, thanks.
dmonk- Thank you. :)
jake- Yeah, you're right. I'm working on adjusting the contrast in my newer stuff without having to use bright, loud colours. That's what I wanted to stay away from, and I'm using more shadow/light to push the forms. Thanks for the advice. :)
Kamui- Haha, hey Gary..glad you like stumpy. Yeah..hopefully I'll get a tablet for Christmas or something..
Sheep Factory- Yeah man...I had to take a lot of time off. I've been back for a few months now..just getting back into posting at different forums. Glad to be here..this place got huge.
freddy7133d- Thanks man. :xtreme:
eunuchbot- Hah..that would be my dream job. Hopefully someday...
farquar- Thank you very much. Yeah I was having a few issues with making dull colours but also having them stand out. I like using cell shading for part of my colouring, and I wanted to avoid a happy, cartoony look too. I've been doing more stuff with lighting and it's popping out more I think. Thanks for the c&c. :)
Joril- Thanks! No, go ahead and save it..but then you um..have to send me ..uh..$100. Yeah..that's it. :P
Nevermore- Thank you. Glad you like them. :)
PsychedelicMind- Hehe, thanks. I'm happy you enjoy the little details. Yeah, I'm working on drawing some girls and more environments (non-crappy ones this time, too!), so hopefully I can have a big update on my site soon.
art7sayan- Heh, I appreciate it. Glad you like my stuff, and yes, Sam Liu is my god.
Wi_2- Cool, thanks.
