View Full Version : Foliage in wind?

I'm about to make a bit of weeds and grass for a short animation clip I'm working on. My question is what would be the best way to give them some small subtle animation as if they were blowing in the wind.

My first thought would be a lattice; but I would still have to key the animation myself. Is there any way to get some procedural animation; like some way to pull a animated noise field across them? (Like a noise a space warp in 3ds Max)

.: Just an Idea :.

I know you aren't french but by looking at this tutorial, you can under stand a device to make your foliage move.

Make different model of foliage which will be followed by another...

Sorry (I can't explain it totaly in english)

using expressions
Or make simply some clip of foliage which are played randomly on a sinusoïdal function...

Did you consider using PaintFX? A lot of the plant brushes are animated to begin with. You can always turn on animation for any brush too.

If you have specific geometry that needs animating, depending on the geometry, you could make it a softbody, or if you have a LOT of geometry, assign a lattice, and make it a softbody and apply a field to the softbody.

Nicool: I kinda like the expression idea; but it sounds like putting all the plants under one lattice might be the best.

dwkim: Bah! Paint-fx :thumbsdow Friends don't let friends use clipart! ;)
