View Full Version : Still: An old street.
Piv0t 11-23-2002, 06:10 PM Greetings, everyone
It's my second thread here, so now I'd like to show you a still from the upcoming animation (certainly hope so) I'm currently working on along with another 3d-artist.
It'd be great to hear your opinions concerning the image

Its excellent! I like the glows everywhere, giving the impression the picture's actually shedding light! The lamps texture looks VERY weird though... almost marbly, and it doesnt look like they're on totally straight or is it just me?
Top notch! :buttrock:

CarlCampbell, thanks. The lamps are actually supposed to be rather shiny and reflective, cause they are made of a bit matte white glass. Perhaps they do have a bit extra reflection.. I'll blur it later.
BTW I used this as a reference for lamps

Veyr nice! I love the modeling and texturing. . . the lamps do look a bit crooked, but I like that. . . the only problem i have is the lighting. . .
while it's a very pleasent looking scene, I can't figure out for the life of me when/where this is.
i.e. What time is it? The lamps don't look on, but there seems to be light coming from the windows. . . and the street looks dark, but still lit. . .
It looks as though it's night, but there's a huge alien space craft floating above the city, with all it's millions of tiny christmas lights on. . . very surreal . .
Actually! It looks like it's inside. . . lit from fake, reflected lights from above. Like one of those indoor arcades in Vegas. . . designed to keep you from knowing what time it is. . .
Anyway, I'd say, save this image, and this scene and back them up, and then try relighting with a time in mind, a mood in mind, a place in mind.
Very nice work though, I look forward to your 3rd post :P

Thanks for your reply, Tumerboy.
It's actually supposed to be a narrow old street, so the house which is in the current frame is lit by the opposite one, aswell as by the light coming from it's own windows, and the street lamps are still off. As for the time, it's a late evening in... August perhaps.
Being an individual image, this frame had a bit of post-processing made in Photoshop, to make it look more fairy -- it won't be so evident in the animation.
