Lemog

Well... now, it's the moment to really start to work here... with a particular project.

Few month ago, I've done a portrait of my baby of one year old... his brother of 10 years old was a little bit jealous (kindly...) and after that, I promised him to do his portrait too, when I will have a little time... it's now thus.

I've planed to give him a 3/4 pose... but he prefered a portrait of face... with a similar framing than his little baby brother... In this case, it's him the boss :D

Another point he want... a kind of background, with... Pokemon ? fortunetely, I could change his demand... for something less fashion, less children, less monster, by something he like a lot too... a harry potter mood... for that, I can inspire me of my library in the Spectacular challenge, it's totally in the mood I mean...

I hope you can find interest in this WIP... If that run well... I will try to do at the end a little animated gif, or a little movie of all the progress.

Now, that begin really...

The first step... let's me introduce my son Quentin... the photo and a quick drawing base...

hihi... thanks... he will happy

Black lines and fast coloring, as often, in Photoshop... Painter is again new for me, manipulations are faster for me in Photoshop.
But after, to work on the matter, I will used Painter... very efficient in this case, with all these rich brushes :scream: I love that... that remind me a little the old painting...

A little update, certainly the last one for today...

Laurent,

A very enjoyable thread so far.

A side issue. I just looked at your new site and wonder if the textures are all new? they all have the same date of entry on them. The reason I ask is that about a year ago I collected many of the textures on your site and would hate to resave them if I already have them.

Thank you for making such an asset available to the community. I have placed a link to you on my site <www.robertellisonimaging.com> in case there are still people out there who haven't heard of you.

Hey Jannis... glad to see you here mate

Excellent work on this portrait. Great to see it become a reality. I bet he'll be so happy. No need to be jealous of his lil bro because he has his own masterpiece now. It's not a real jalousy... but the baby always claimed more attention (it's a real little monster version)... and of course, I have a little less time to be with him, and to play with him, at 10 years old, he always need a lot of his father... He's very happy I start this portrait.
Don't know if it will be a real masterpiece, I just will try to do somthing which make proud my son :)

Hello Robert, and thanks to appreciate my work.
About the textures on my website, there's no new textures since July 2004... or just few on differents sections... I don't remember exactly, and certainly the "FUR" section.
During 1 year, I can't find time to do update on the site, but in Juny 2005, I decided to make a new version, not always finish (always the lack of time), but soon.
As the new site is in PHP, of course, dates are the ones when I upload them in the new site.
I was obliged to change the hosting, becauce now, this site is very heavy... much pictures, and much textures...
For the moment, not new seamless textures are planed... but in few days I hope, I will open a new section of 1600x1200 textures (no seamless), certainly with more of 100 textures... with access only for the registered members.... always free of course.
Thanks for your interest... seeya

Always much pleasure to see you on my threads Gunie...
About the black background, in fact... Quentin ask me for a real background... in first, he want a Pokemon environment... but I proposed him something maybe more adapted, something he like anyway... a background more harry potter, certainly as my library in the challenge... and certainly really dark... to keep this good contrast.

For the eyes.... sorry... mine are small (too much years with glasses...) and green... :banghead:

No paint over for this portrait... just to save time, I draw the black line on a layer over the photo... and after, I work only with a little photo inside my drawing... like on this snapshot ->

Morning you my friend...

Front Page... certainly not... it's only a portrait... all days... I take a look to all these incredibles 2d or 3d images... with more potential, more imagination...
In this case, it's not a great pose, or a great technic... Digital painting is very new for me... I think I need to work and work more to acquire other skills in this domain.

My dream is to realize a real 2d composition... with the same madness than in 3d... but it's certainly to early for me... in 1 or 2 years maybe :scream:

Anyway, thanks for the morning compliments... that give me possibility to have a great day

Remember, you must not discourage the gnome's artistic pursuits, so if he makes 'art' out of someone's motherboard, it must be met with appreciation!

Good morning all girls and guys... :wavey:

Update of the morning now...

The portrait is almost finished... remain me to refined some details and tones... (eyebrows, haire, etc...), but at this moment, I prefer to wait the final steps... a little time permit me to be a little bit more objective...
...and I can consacrate this time for the background.

'Morning, Lemog~! :)

Great progression...the only thing that seems funny is the eyebrows a little bit...the eyes are still just a little flat, but I know you'll be creating a masterpiece. ;)

Very nice likeness, it seems you've depicted him even younger than he appears in the photograph...perhaps a little down on the cheeks would give it that extra touch. :)

Look forward to your next update!

Lemog
12-14-2005, 05:49 AM
Yes... the eyebrows appear very massive at this moment... I will lower that...

Okay with you about flat eyes... totally my fault... I try to don't marked too much the rings under his eyes... but now... there's nothing... to add a little then...

About cheeks... I will test... if I understand well your thoughts...

Thanks Beckie... your eyes are perfect for me in this case...

I will do these modifications after the background, but I note these good points, thanks

Don't know... I don't want to have lot of detail here... it's just a background... planed very dark... I will try to have something just suggered, if I can... in this case, I think that over painting can't help...

Oh - this is turning out great! I see you're almost finished now. May I suggest one thing... it seems to me the edge between him and the background is a bit hard making the background appear a bit flat. Good morning for both of us Zapan!

Lolo, my apologies, this did not turn out as well as expected ~ but just a light recommendation for blurring a bit the background and darkening it, and softening the edges of your son's face and head (all around). I drew a path around the head and feathered the selection, then blurred the bkgrd separately (you might not want to go this far ~ but it might be a good base from which to bring up some lighter areas just a little bit).

Also there are some remnants of the original drawing, or just some lines / contours which you may wish to soften or blend so that he does not appear to be an outline.

As always, I'm impressed with the speed of your progress, and can't wait to see the final result! :)

Great progress Lemog! :wip:

I'm thinking perhaps the eyes need some more attention, especially in the corners. They seem a little too... luminous.

Also, with such a direct light you may want to adjust the focus of the specular highlight on the pupil to be slightly more central, like in the photograph.

Rebeccak
12-15-2005, 02:46 PM
Good morning Lolo,

Taking a quick peek of your piece here at work...running a little late today, don't know why... ~ my fast opinion is that your portrait looks much better in terms of the background harmonizing with the foreground...now it properly takes second place, whereas before it caught too much attention...the smoothing of the lines surrounding the face has really helped to soften this piece a lot.

I still think the face could use a little more painting ~ tightening up the details, particularly around the eyes, just a little bit, not too much ~ I like how this is 'softly photorealistic' and not over~the~top in terms of the rendering. That means it has the characteristic Lemog touch, which only you can refine ~

Looking forward to seeing a little more progress on this Le French Nut!

Good Morning Lemog and Lemog Peoples!

A little paintover ~ just a few suggestions, for adding depth around the eyes, softening the face generally, using a layer with a blending mode to get an all~over warmer color environment...generally just some suggestions, up to you to decide if you like them.

Sorry, Lolo, for some reason, I can't read that file..."no such avi compressor"...tried to open in After Effects too just in case, but my computer's a little wiggy. Probably not a problem on your end at all.
Hope to see it on another machine tomorrow.

If you can't see it... I will upload a version with another codec...

Of course... the time is one thing... but inspiration an another one... not necessary french females... but something is sure, to draw is a little sensual... and with must have the desire to draw... that's all... :)

For this thread, I already have a new project... an another portrait... the spanish grandmother of my wife, dead 3 weeks ago at 90 years old... lot of wrinkles planed :curious:
...but nothing completly decided.

And why not... If I have time... the portrait of Madonna :scream: hahahahahaha

Understood ;) ~ A good friend once said that drawing brought her close to tears. It's definitely an emotional experience, particularly when done from life.

I'm a little bit ashamed... finally, not enough time to finish during the lunch  but finally, the most difficult for me is done... not really the most difficult, but certainly the part I really don't like... the rough part... and now, it's time to clean the model... my prefered moment so far...

Remaining work on black background, more easy, even with shadows... it's always worse with white... it's good only for drawing masters... :scream:

Yes...and more funny if you considere as always, when my drawing cession... when I "under" the work... I forget to watch the model for a long time... and I continue just with the feeling... it's the reason as often there's some details, shadows or highlights very different than the original model.
But I can assure you which I doesn't know this model :scream:

Yep, I remember well your initial posts to the "Evocative" thread ~ and how you have always had a nice, and rather poetic, way of describing things. :)

I think it's one of the things I want to try to do with the OFDWs eventually...to make them more interpretive or something...vs. just copying the model...but of course, this is up to the individual artists and his or her needs.

I was looking at your website and at your 2D work ~ you have progressed remarkably in a really short time ~ it's kind of cool, actually, to see that! Looking forward to what more "THE" Lemog produces in 2D. ;)

Good morning, Lolo! :)

She's proceeding very nicely, I like the warm feeling in the colors you use, warmer than in the photo which is really nice.

And I recognise the life-is-short thoughts too, Sabie have some good points there. Personally I try to push that feeling away instead, since it's very easy makes me paralysed instead, there is still so many things I want to do each day that the thought of it gets me exhausted ... oh, heavy mood this morning - must be all the food :)

Have a great day with your Illustrator drawings

I think it's one of the things I want to try to do with the OFDWs eventually...to make them more interpretive or something...vs. just copying the model...but of course, this is up to the individual artists and his or her needs.
OF course that can be very interesting... it's always a great personal challenge to interprate with other or new style...

I was looking at your website and at your 2D work ~ you have progressed remarkably in a really short time ~ it's kind of cool, actually, to see that! Looking forward to what more "THE" Lemog produces in 2D. ;)

Thanks Beckie... it's not the "night and day"... but I must agree that I do some progress since I participate here with you and your exercices...

mmmh... sad news... spam is dead ? but maybe the real good translation for "spam" is "share with friends", not ? In any case... that will be not dead... these sharing moments will continue in our usual threads... but without this little room where we can sit down, just between the fridge and the fire...
maybe that comes to be too much serious for me ? :scream: hahahaha

Finally... no Illustrator today  we decided to finally realize these picture in 3d animated... but with the same deadline :banghead: (very interesting... many models of forklifts in rotation... toon rendering )...

Probably, but not definitely...we will have to wait to see what happens. :) At any rate, I am happy that you guys can spam here on your own threads. It's always a pleasure to talk to you guys.

That's good news, yes? 3d work means doing your own stuff while rendering, right?
But animating... arggh... means some more overtime for you? :banghead:

Lolo,

It would be quite funny if you had made no change to the feet and then I said, aha, perfect!

Great stuff Lolo I think it has a beautiful quality to it ~ and I'm sure you could make it even better if you had more time. The softness to the picture is really pleasing, and I think if her right leg had just a bit more of a sense of weight, this would really balance out the image nicely.

Looking forward to more cool work by you!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

your comments about this latest picture make me happy... of course, that come to be far of my style... but always far of my goal... I'm always very admirative about artists who arrive to sugerred only thier masterpiece with only few touches of brush... but the exercise is not easy... maybe with more work :scream:

Morning Gunie... I will try to continue this year with the same way of passion... with you all as incredible support...

Good morning Gunie... yes... it started... but only the documentation work... I certainly wait the end of the month before to really start 3d...

But in the same time... maybe I will try to restart with ZB... when I saw your actual project... that really give me the envy to go for more... but I must find a good subject than yours... without precise goal... I'm sure that another time I can't progress with this software.
Must think then...

While waiting... I've started this one yesterday... an another brush test...
