theplayhead 12-08-2005, 12:35 PM thePlayhead steps into first frame !! here i am with my very first 2 animation excersice. i am not sure if the bounce are right , but do give a hard critiq about it. it will be good if u can point the tinkering works to be done in it.

looks good for an excersice but i think should squash a bit more on tha landing then as it starts to jump back up show some more momentum with streching

theplayhead I think the second clip without the squash and stretch is good. Good Arcs good timing. But the clip with the Squash and Stretch needs some work. It looks like you didnt make the last tangent at the end flat like you did at the beggining. Play with the tangent so that it slows down at the end and accelerates when its falling. The Stretch coming down looks good, and the Squash also but.. What happened to the Stretch coming back up??? You forgot the stretch when the ball is coming back up.

First off, excellent start!
On the first one with the ball bouncing straight up and down, there are a few things I would do to improve the overall look. Round the arcs more when it's stops up in the air. That will make it hang longer, and that will make the downwards, and upwards motions faster. It will give the ball more weight and less like a sphere moving between point A and point B.
The amount of stretch is good, but when the ball starts coming down, make the stretch start earlier and get to it's maximum amount the frame before it hits the ground (like you have).
Part of the squash is good. I think it's a good amount, but on the way back up, the ball instantly retains it's shape and that throws off everything. When the ball is moving fast, it should stretch. When it comes comes in contact with something like the floor really fast it should squash, and when it's not moving (at the top of the arc) it should retain it's shape.
The second ball bounce where it bounces and slows down is overall pretty decent too. A good rule of thumb is that the second bounce should be slightly higher than half of the first bounce. The third bounce should be slightly higher than half of the second bounce... and so on.
The ball also comes to a sudden stop. It should slow to a stop. I believe it's on your Z axis, so in your curves make the stop frame less linear, and have it slow down instead of have that sudden stop. The only reason the ball would stop is because it has no momentum to keep carrying it. In the last few frames, that ball has enough momentum to carry it for a few more tiny bounces and it would even roll some after it stops bouncing.
That's all I could really see I think both animations are an excellent start. I've seen alot of ball animations that were so messed up, I just recommended starting over :)
Just play with the curves a little and do a few tweeks here and there and you'll have a great bounce
