1. P4 660 CPU (3.6G/1M/800)
2. p4d 820
3. amd 3800X2

it is for 3d modelling and rendering. i think the 660 is the best. is it?

I bet the x2 3800+ is the best IMHO, but you should also look for opteron 165 or 170 with socket 939. ;)

Depends on what you are using.. you may want to do a search in the forums as this has been asked before. For most applications the AMD X2 or Opteron are going to be your best choices though I know in the past if you use 3DS Max it seems to work better with Intel processors.. again do a search and you may find your answer a little quicker than waiting for replies.

traditionally intel processors have performed better then AMD for high end media content creation apps like max and maya due to SSE optimizations (since AMD always seems to be a version behind with SSE support)

when in doubt check out any of the good benchmark sites like anandtech, hardforum, etc

AMD is currently on par with Intel when it comes to SSE implementations. The latest cores offer SSE3, which is why we're seeing alot of benches in favor for AMD now, I bet. Not only is it a better CPU all around, but when paired with the same instruction sets, it really helps boost its position...
