Per Oskit at the MW forum:
"For today or for next 9th : C4D plugin for PC
For 16th: all the OS X and MAC "

i.e., 9 Dec. '05 & 16 Dec. '05. It's unclear if the Mac part includes a working plugin.

Also, when Mac/M~R arrives, it will have the C4D plugin.

The plugin seems to be working fine--same as before but with colored tag icons (woohoo).

The engine itself seems not to have improved from RC2, except that textures are now supported in the color channel (woohoo). A bunch of people on the M~R forums are reporting crashes with the standalone, but it seems fine here.

Are you able to get an image using the plugin? im getting nothing but black. no crashes, but no image either:D

Nothing but black for me also.
I've tried everything I can think of.

found this in the maya area - might be relevant to C4D too?

THE KEY TO GET RID OF THIS B/W RENDER!!

1)Select you EMMITER SHADER.
2)CHANGE YOUR SHADER from the default, ie D^% type, to CUSTOM
3)(this is the KEY) CHANGE YOUR UNITS to INTENSITY -tweak your intensity to about 1000+ if emmiter is farther or it renders dark(the reason the renders come out black /white, If you open up your maya mxs scene in MX STUDIO RC2 is that the default emmiter for some reason is Set to KELVIN!... By changing your UNITS in maya to INTENSITY and TYPE to CUSTOM you disable the KELVIN powerful effect, and WHALA!!! your scene NOW renders corrctly STRAIGHT OUT OF MAYA....

post if it helps - i'm curious...

Yeah, the plugin is working fine for me. I've only tried it with custom emitters.

New RC3 uploaded. The render engine and studio have been updated. There are still some issues in the render to be fixed in a next patch. The sky is coming very soon. The C4D plugin has been added.

CHANGELOG

(12-07-05) RC3

· Fixed: A lot of improvements in Render engine.
· Fixed: Preview in viewports more stable and with new features.
· Fixed: Selecting and moving the camera does not crash.
· Fixed: Render options properly saved.
· Fixed: Ortho view settings are now saved in layouts.

NEW FEATURES:

- A lot of new features in the interface of Maxwell Studio.
- Mxs files supports more than one camera.
- Textures in color channels in plugins now avalaible. THe rest of the textures will be added in next updates.

KNOWN ISSUES:

- Sky and textures disabled in current version. ( avalaibles in the next update ). Reflectance color texture now avalaible in bsdf's.
- Only custom emitters work in plugins. Wrong temperature mapping.
- Transmitance red color does not work properly.

Works here, but there are still tons of little bugs here and there. I noticed the tags statistics (lists number of materials, emitters, etc) is not working in the engine for example.

I have not been able to get any of the custom materials to work through the plug though. It may just be something little that I'm not doing, but with no manual it is tough to tell. I was also hoping that they would have changed the plug more ... would love to see the material editor accessed through the plugin. Baby steps I guess.

Unfortunately it seems NL isn't planning on this. If you want to build advanced materials you'll have to do it through the standalone. :/
