Here is the concept drawing for the creature I built in Maya.

The actual model I built is sitting here.

I have a better explanation for the model and drawing in the Maya Animation section. Posted to the wrong section.... DOH!!

Looks good, the model actually looks a bit different, but I cant really give any critique cause it looks so good :D

hey nickz,

i followed you over hear from the maya section.

pretty nice concept sketch....i like the feet

just an observation.....the model is a little more 'cartoony' than the sketch

i read that you used polys....by my judgement that means a pretty dense mesh

good luck getting into the animation

here's a good tutorial on pose to pose animation using the dope sheet in maya

holy-schmoly....that's awesome. So, ummm, how do you ride it?

The control cage for this guy is about 9 - 10 thousand polys. Not too bad to work with in realtime. So I'm using this to drive the animation for the hi res render model. Just pump up the poly smooth value before render time. You'll ride on top in the mid back area. Still have to build a saddle and whatnot.

WOW! When I saw the drawing I said "I don't know...." But then the model came. Amazing stuff. That thing will look brilliant textured.
(Update: Oh, it is. Silly me. Very nice.)

i am one of them:(

too many images on that page for my super duper 56k connection!! I like the sketch though, it reminds me of something... one of those horror movies with the little creatures with all the teeth(that should narrow it down)... cant remember what it was called....

Nice detail on the sketch though very nice.
Now just scale those images down so us underpriveledged can see them!

Impressive!! the attention to detail in both Sketch and model are astonishing, will this be animated? if so is it for fun or work?

awesome job

Wow, nice work. The creature has a really good design to him.

Nice concept art too.

Question, were those images rendered through maya's internal rendering system or through a 3rd party one?

Can you post a wireframe sometime too?

Yes!! critters that is it...except they were little guys, without legs i think.. , but it is mainly the shape of this dino's body that reminds me of this. Good call Macho.

I did go to your link Nickz, I let the images load.. slowly...:p The model looks very good the detail is very nice, but it does seem different than the concept, more friendly somehow. I think it is the difference in the chin and nose, plus the sketch doesn't show any eyes.. this fact alone i think adds a certain darkness!

Either way the sketch is great and the model is great! Good job, hope to see this guy in a more realistic setting.
