I,m looking for a good way to (photorealistic) make cracks in walls, floors etc ect.
At this point i'm using 3ds max and combustion as my vfx setup.

but seriously, you should post this in either the max forum or the discreet forum. or the vfx forum. anything but the two forums that you did post in.
to answer your question, it depends entirely on the shot. there's a million ways to make cracks, and all of them have a time and place. if you want helpful info, we'll need more info about the shot. are you trying to composite cracks on video footage, or doing it in 3d? is the camera moving? do the cracks have to be animated? how big are they?
