A little experiment i was playing around with, and from today i have alot more respect for the surfacing potentials of this great tool!

Damn! You've even managed to give it the appearance of subsurface scattering type translucency.

Now I have to figure out how to do that.

Wow

Whats the stats!

Render time on what machine

niklas
11-23-2002, 02:12 AM
Glad you like it.
The rendertime was 15 minutes (without the DOF) on a 700Mhz Athlon with 128 MB ram.
Its a relatively simple setup, it has only two lights, one white backlight and a blue light below/behind the camera. The rest is in the surface settings on the voxels. :)

wow, that in just 15 minutes is awesome. great job.

hi, Niklas, nice to see you here. i have been to your site a few times. very informative and the theme is fun;)
that Martian Desert looks kewl. (all others are great, but i like this style most).was that retouched in photoshop? what do we do in photoshop to make a 3D render look that way?

Where do you get DofData, DofRendering, DofAntialiasing?

Bytehawk
11-25-2002, 12:39 AM
i's part of the x-dof plugin
http://www.evasion3d.com/

btw - thanks for the scene, you're a real sport

niklas
11-25-2002, 12:40 AM
Oh thats the X-dof plugin. If you don't have it, just ignore it. It's only related to the Detph of Field in the image. It renders fine without it, but you need to configure the dof by yourself.

I was trying to load the scene file and it said I'm missing some plugins relating to the DOF in the scene. I'm using 7.0 I was assuming it wouldn't be an issue.

Just let me know, thanks.

Artificer
11-25-2002, 12:59 AM
sorry about the repeat question. Although when I do ignore them, it freezes my machine

niklas
11-25-2002, 01:39 AM
Sorry about that, people.

If you don't have X-dof.
Use this scene.

That is realy neat ... how did you set that so that surface hypervoxels would render out like that with those ' ice clusters '

Anyways, I hope you dont mind but I was playing around with the settings and I changed the color texture to smokey1 and it looks even more icier

I moved the camera around in the scene...rendered out a few frames and this is what I got... =)
Things explode a few times when you go "inside" the "ice balls"... but for anyone who wanted an alternative view....well here is 150. =)

eheheheh,
minus you're great as always!

when it goes inside the balls there are some problems (it's a bit weird), but i'm awestruck, didn't thing that scene would render as nicely once animated!!!!

compliments to you and niklas

V. nice indeed, the artefacts only seem to appear when the camera goes into the group of particles (the hypervoxel), but I guess it's hard to direct the camera with a bunch of points all over the shop

minus

Each frame didn't take too long to render...
I turned down the X-dof settings a lot... there still is x-dof Depth of Field in there like the original... but I turned it down a lot as 90 percent of the originals rendertime was all spent rendering out the X-dof buffers, the hypervoxels were very minimal in rendertime compared to the depth of field in the original.
