Very cool. I'm *really* interested in seeing his painting style translated to 3D. Is the trailer itself online yet?:bounce:

The trailer is absolutely cool!

I liked the look and the feel of the film. The treatment given to the film is very well.

One forgets after a while that this is a animated film.

The designs were out of this world and hope the screenplay will match to the treatment given to the film.

This film is in my must-watch list.

I have my fingers crossed.

cheers!

Well, maybe it's just because I'm cranky and Scrooge-like due to the Christmas season, but I am very skeptical about this project.

Pretty pictures do not necessarially make for a good movie. If there was a decent story behind this, I think one of the majors would pick this project up, and Doug would not have to keep shopping it around. Even though Hollywood produces a lot of crap, the system will not tolerate a weak story. Allowances must of course be made for hip retro nostalgia (Scooby Doo), and technological gimmickry (Final Fantasy), but other than that the principle holds true.

I'm afraid Robota probably does'nt meet any of the big motion picture studio's criteria. Lucious development art will not suffice.

Hmm, you're right about the story, it's very classical.
But hey Stories can be re-written, right? Maybe a descent writer should be put on the project too.
"The terrible secret of the robots" Sounds alright though.

Hmm, was it just me who didn't miss the "illustrated book" and not movie at the end of the trailer?

Yes, but he claims in the interview that he would like to see the project develop into a movie eventually. It seems to me that "illustrated book" is the fallback position that you take after a few failed Hollywood pitch sessions. I mean, why produce a full-blown movie trailer to promote a book project? Of course, I could be wrong.

i think the last screenshot is quite similar with the Myst(tm) style.

and Myst is my favorite!

The3dman, the animated trailer isn't up on te apple site yet. I've seen those before, about a year ago? Timo got the right one :)

Doesn't it say at the end of the trailer: 'An illustrated book by Doug Chiang and Orson Scott Card'? Isn't that the author who wrote the 'Ender' books? I haven't read those, but considering they are quite popular, and the general notion that the man is a good writer don't make it seem likely the project is merely a failed movie. I for one am intersted in the whole venture, book or movie, whatever it may turn out to be. :)

Ahh... I missed that. Maybe there is some good writing behind it. "Ender's Game" was a great book, though "Speaker for the Dead" didn't quite measure up, in my opinion. The only other Card book I read was "Seventh Son", which was a clone of Ender. He's a good writer, but to my knowledge still hasn't topped his early hit.

It looks great, and can't wait to see it move. But I feel that the dinosaurs/robots mix is a bad idea. We have seen enough reptilian 3D creatures already (and dinosaurs). Feels like Cadilac Dinosaur or whatever it was called.

But then again it's different than the avarage 3D animated movies we have seen so far, so that's good.

As for a little crit on one of those pics: The one with the waterfalls has waves that are way too big.

Anyway, looks nice, but I hope it will be interesting outside of the visual aspect too.

Read the interview on CgChannel, Doug talks about what the plans are there. At the moment it's a book and a cg trailer. What comes next, only Doug Chiang knows :)
