This is an assignment I'm working on at school. Everyone in the past has had a 30-second scene with people getting chased by a saucer and burned, but the teachers are always pushing for shorter reels, so I hope this applies to assignments too. I suppose the pilot is drunk. Truthfully, though I animated the ship erratically to cover up an imperfect track. I was unaware of the difficulty boujou had with nodal pans, so I only took a few measurments on set, not planning to model the scene for hand tracking. Also, I brilliantly failed to properly level the tripod, so there is a pretty extreme "dutch tilt" on my boujou data. What I have here is a combination of the boujou track and some improvised hand tracking in maya. All of the animation, rendering and simulation was done in maya (the model was provided for the assignment) and then blurred beyond recognition and composited in combustion 4.

The subject is happy spaceship because of the strange toys 'r' us style pattern on the spaceship. I just felt like using the star brush in photoshop.

Anyway, I see a lot of flaws in this, but they're starting to blur together as I watch it over and over and there's no harm in stating them, even if I'm aware of them, so please critique. Just please don't say, "reshoot" because I can't.

The colours look strange because I overexposed when I shot and had to do some extreme histogramming (also in combustion) to get any kind of detail in the sky. IT doesn't look quite as terrible uncompressed, but I guess you don't have to believe me.

Thanks to anyone who actually read all of this,

Ben Miller
