Hello

I was wondering how you experts use your meshtools?

With Max 4/5 options of customization - toolbars, floating menus, quads, hotkeys - which do you prefer and use?

I've followed a website's advice of assigning my customize quad menu to the ALT-KEY + Right Mouse button.
I wonder if you guys just use the right mouse button straight out to bring up your meshtools quad menus, or have assigned your favourite meshtool commands to hot keys.

All in the fight to improve efficiency in max!

Thanks

Mike

well i don't know if i would qualify as an 'expert' but i'll answer anyway :p
in max 4 w/ meshtools i had a skinny side bar down the left side of the viewports with all the meshtools as buttons as well as had a hadful of most frequently used tools assigned to hotkeys.

in max 5, just using teh tools built into editable poly, i have everything i use with reasonable frequency assigned to hotkeys or key combinations :)

I don't claim expert status either, but here's what I do: I assign the most frequently used operations to hotkeys (edge loop/ring, grow/shrink, convert to vert/edge/face), and keep the rest on my Ctrl-RMB quad. I've modified the macroScripts for all of the poly editing functions so that they're 100% context-sensitive (this is for R5, though I had also done this for R4.2 previously). When I'm in vert SO mode, only vertex-related stuff comes up on the quad, for instance. It took an investment of time to set up, but it pays off well while modeling;)

i would have spent some time explaining it, but i use the exact same approach as LFShade. hotkey>quad>menu

Thanks for the replies !

It good to get this sort of advice, to improve my efficiency skills, and not waste time.

The next thing I need to learn, is how to maximise expert mode

I have assigned it for a quad menu, works like a charm :)

Im in love with the quad, it can do so much, other than that I have everything on hot key.

Personally I think that "Thou shall not right clck". Or do any of the shortcut acrobatics. It's bad for your health. Bad for my health for sure.

So I just put all the tools in a convenient toolbar on the buttom of the screen next to the main toolbar and just point to a tool with a wacom when I need it. Ditto with max 5.

Standard "I'm not an expert" disclaimer applies.

hotkeys. Very Game-inspiret...

I have most useful keys around S, D, F

s,d,f = scale,rot,move
Alt + something for viewportstuff
Ctrl+ something for misc stuff
Shift+ something for animation
