I know this idea has been brought up and shot down (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=238272&page=1&pp=15) before, but some of the ideas in the last thread really sounded like they would work in the context of CGTalk.
I would like to have a place on CGTalk where we, as artists could post site designs, both in-progress and completed for comments and critique. This is something that is not restricted to websites, as I stated in the thread title, I want to include interface design. Whether it's the menu of a dvd or video game, or even in-game status displays (health ammo whatever)
Now most of the interface design so far has pretty much gone to the 2D/3D forums, which works, but we still don't have a place to get a good crit on a web design.
I do not want to create a forum of "how do I do this or that on my website?" There are plenty of sites for html coding questions, and an open sticky at the top with links to resources and tutorals would handle that.
There are a lot of artists on this forum who build our own porfolio sites, and sometmes go a bit overboard with the design. In the past there have been some excellent articles (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=283789) on what makes good web design, but no place to show it off (at least on this forum). Sometimes the content isn't even CG related, but the site design still needs a critique.
As a graphic designer, I like to think I know that my website is easy to use and everything is intuitive and clearly legible. But it's only until I have others look at it, and try to use it that I will be 100% sure it's working as it should.
What do you say?
