Title: WW2 Mission Briefing
Name: Luca Scacchetti
Country: Italy
Software: 3ds max, Brazil r/s, Photoshop
I took the inspiration for this from the Call of Duty 2 loading screens.
I've tried to depict the atmosphere you can see in the briefing phase that usually take place before a mission.
The knife is a Ka-bar the one usually equipped to U.S. troops during WWII, the bag is a little ammo or maps pouch and not a backpack so the scale should be correct, the little package you see in the top right corner instead contains bullets
The scene has been entirely modelled in 3dsmax 7 with polys and rendered with Brazil R/S 1.2, I've not done any postproduction since i was satisfied with the image.
I want also to thanks the treddi.com community for the help and support they provide to me during the creation of this piece.
Comment and critics are more than welcome!
Bye

Nice. I have only two negative things to say about this. First: the satchel looks like a purse. It's either the color or texturing, or a little of both. Also, I thought WW2 had bayonets. KABAR is more the Marines today.
Good stuff otherwise.
good texture and render, good job..

awesome still life. I like the materials. You can really feel the cold metal, the soft paper and the bumbiness of the bag. very realistic.
Only crit: the material at the bag seems to get a little smeared at one corner.
keep it up,

Thanks all for your kind words, i'm glad you like it !
x Thr35h0ld : the Ka-bar was used by navy and special corps also in the ww2 conflict, here (https://www.kabar.com/history.jsp) you can find the history of this type of knife, i've based my own upon a photo of an original ka-bar dated 1943. About the bag i'm also not fully satisfied with it probably it's a material problem.
x Wheiraucher : Yes that was an uv error i unfortunately noticed too late, perhaps i should correct it in photoshop. Thanks for pointing this !

I like that a lot. Nice work.
The bullets seem a bit off though, what caliber are they supposed to be? 30-06 was what the M1 Garand used.

I don't like the theme, but the work is 5 stars for me! :)
Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the appreciation !
x 4low : You're not the first to point out this issue, can you be more specific?
I've based the model of the bullets on this photo (http://www.special-warfare.net/data_base/201_individual_weapons/image/30_06_01.jpg) of a 30-06 bullet, i can assure you that the geometry is identical, perhaps i've made them of the wrong size ?
I'm not much of an expert in weapons and bullets :)

The bullet in that pic, as well as your bullets, look like the actual bullet is seated too far down in the casing, that's what's throwing it off. Either that or that bullet is a bit different from the mil-surp that I'm used to looking at. At least that's my take on it.
Compare your reference to these to see what I'm getting at:

Now that i see your refs pics,i clearly understand what's the problem. Next time i will check more than one reference before starting to model.
Thanks again for your help, it has been very useful to me!
Best Regards,
Luca.
