I remember using an option called seperate in the poly menu in maya6. If you had combined 2 pieces of geometry then it would seperate them out into individual pieces again. I have recently bought Maya7 and the option has gone!

Tell me I'm not crazy and I didnt just imagine it existed. Where is it?

Its now in the polygons menu instead of edit polys. Next to combine

Hey thanks that works. I suppose I could just sit it on my modeling shelf as a MEL button. Its still quite weird though that it would just decide to dissapear.

Am I the only one that thinks that Maya has a mind of its own sometimes?

no problems here ... maybe you have the maya 6.x script that builds the PolyMenu (PolygonsMenu.mel or EditPolygonsMenu.mel) in your scripts dir? just a thought :)

good luck

Hehe yes,

I had a similar problem with assigning materials like transmat or dsg_material. It would be in the list, you would change nothing close maya and open it again and when trying to assign a dsg_material or any other material in that list, it would just not be there

Setting mr to load when maya starts up solved this though, still I think it's weird.
