Hello.

Dumb question ahead so bear with me :scream:

I was wondering if anybody would know where I can find information about marketing original movie scripts? I am not into it right now but I may be interested on trying that out in the very near future (say, one year from now).

Thanks :)

Well, it can't be that dumb a question, since no one has really figured out the magic answer to it.

As I'm sure you'll hear, marketing animation scripts is very, very difficult since (as I understand it) nearly all animation projects are generated in-house by full time staff and the number of scripts bought from outside sources is nearly Zero.

However, if you're interested in live action film scripts, there are an awful lot of resources online. The best one that I can think of off the top of my head is www.scriptsales.com. They have listings of recent scripts sales, all kinds of links and directories and a message board frequented by a mix of professionals and almost-professionals both in independent and Hollywood worlds. Worth checking out.

Just my 2¢.

Cool, thanks for the link. I will check it out tonight

As a matter of fact I don't want to limit myself to "animated movie script only". The story I have in mind can be developed in both animated or live action without problem :D

Again, thanks ;)

But don't expect to make a sell "in Hollywood". Many people look at movies today and think "damn that's awful! i can do better than that!" and then they embark on their own screenwriting quest. The thing is... these awful movies were either written by (a) influential people or (b) got screwed up during rewrite/development phase. If you want to have just the slightest chance of selling an unsolicited script as an unknown writer you must

1. be one hell of a writer (of course in the English language)
2. have a thorough understanding of the screenwriting craft (being a good writer is not enough, you have to be a fantastic screenwriter as well)
3. have an extraordinary screenplay with an original concept -- preferably a high concept

My point is... your time and effort might be put to better use at something else...

The second option is to make the movie myself, not for selling purposes but for personal enjoyment :D

Yes, that's also the route I'm going with my own script... making the movie myself... that way I stay in control while maintaining my artistic integrity.

My point is... your time and effort might be put to better use at something else... It's true that a very small percentage of people break into the business, but it happens. It's easy to get discouraged when you look at the numbers, but at the same time, Hollywood is always looking for the next big thing. If you are talented and can come up with a good concept, definitely give Hollywood a go. They need good stories more than ever. If you have one, don't cheat the rest of us out of a chance to see something that doesn't suck in our local cineplexes. :)

Nobody said things are easy.

As for the story, I don't know if my script (which is still in the making) could be considered as something that doesn't suck. The people that have read what I have so far like it but that doesn't mean that it will be like "music for the masses".

Quoting something I read a while ago, the movie is about "love, death and immortality" (sounds cool, I know). I could share some thoughts about it if you'd be interested.
