View Full Version : Best way to make cracks in walls, floor or stone objects

I,m looking for a good way to (photorealistic) make cracks in walls, floors etc ect.
At this point i'm using 3ds max and combustion as my vfx setup.

Do the cracks need to be animated? Are they appearing due to a collision of some object? Are they sliding across the floor/up the wall due to some kind of seismic event or similar? Are you just trying to make a pristine wall appear in disrepair?

I second the sledgehammer.
Otherwise, for 'regular cracks', you could make an in the shape of the crack you want and use a boolean operand.
If that's too simple, sorry. This seems like it would work in most cases though. You could even animate the object morphing while still under the boolean influence, to change the shape of the crack.
If I'm mistaken in this, please correct me.
