View Full Version : Is it possible to unselect vertices or polies from a Soft Selection fall off?
PIXAR 11-22-2002, 08:23 AM am creating morph targets, i want to move down the underlip, but not the upperlip. Soft Selection works in some sort of object based yet worldbased selecting (it always grabs all vertices, even with empty space between them)
I want it to work pure object based, for example:
i select the underlip, i grow my selection and the selection goes around the mouth and not straight up to the upperlip.
What is your workflow to do this? (i hate it when i want to move 1 lip and the other follows)

There may be other ways, but the first on that comes to mind would be to use the "Edge Distance" option in the soft select rollout.

Over at the MAX support forums there's a thread that deal exactly with this. Someone even provided a script, though I have not tried it yet.
Here' the link (http://support.discreet.com/webboard/wbpx.dll/~3dsmax)
The script is in the MaxScript Libraries forum, and the explanation of what the script does is in the Tips and Tricks forum.
Like I said, I haven't tried it, but people seem to be raving about it.
