View Full Version : which way?
liumm 11-22-2002, 05:49 AM hi guys.
now I'm lost---I don't know where to go---I used to draw a lot of
comics stuff, but I've heard someone say that comics stuff aren't
good to learn, and should move to still life or some realistic style.
I really like those styles in comics(or in game concept arts)
so where should I go---move on or drop?
thank you!

well for what my thoughts are worth draw what you like..i used to draw mostly comic style to sepecialy anime acualy i have like 2 years where i only drew anime style but life drawing teaches alot of things as do studying lights and darks...its hard to tell somewhere where they should go with there art talent i would say try some life drawing and you will see that your ccmic style anatomy gets way better..just do what makes you happy even if no one else likes it becuse its anime or comic style...just do what makes you happy:thumbsup: :wavey:

But you can learn so many things from drawing comics
Comics is finding the right balance between not putting enough emotion or action in a piece and overdoing it. About exactly saying with a piece what you want it to say. Bringing over the right message. And that can teach you a lot.
Check outthis (http://www.freetoon.com/prestonblair/intro/frame.html). Or the rest of the tut compilation thread.
That "someone" does have a point though. Drawing from life gives a good insight in how things, specially characters, are constructed. And it will make you look at things in a different way, wich is important.
There is just one thing you shouldn't do: and that is allways drawing the same thing. Do not only draw things you feel comfortable with. Try to change subject and style now and than.
But fun is your best teacher (and keep in mind that drawing something that is hard to draw can be fun aswell).

as for liumm, just go with whatever sounds good to you but don't just draw one style.

I'm current working on Loomis' book to learn the construction of
a human head, and then I'll try to combine this and the comic style,
I think this the right way for me,and thanks for that link!
