raine 11-22-2002, 04:05 AM Hi, i am pretty new to maya and i was hoping that maybe someone running across this could give me a few pointers or good websites on how to UV texture my shoe that i modeled. Any info you could give me would be great. Thanks

This tutorial takes you by the hand. It's not a shoe, but the idea is the same.

And here is what it looks like rendered. The shoe on the right is a show with a lattice deformer used to get the shoe more the right shape... i am going to do this with the shoe im working one now (Left in image) to make it have more of the correct shape. Should look better in future :) ... just some help or ideas for modeling the laces will be great! Thanks

Hi raine,
You might have better luck in the wip section if you are after critiques, but here goes a little one. It looks to me like the mesh is getting kind of dense where you carry the geometry of the laces to the sole of the shoe. You might want to articulate the way the laces penetrate the shoe instead of having them blend in the way they do now. You will probably want to lighten the mesh up some, especially if you plan on converting the model to subDs. A tight mesh like that makes it hard to get a smooth natural looking surface with subDs. At least for me.
Anyway, nice start. Keep at it.

Thanks for your input and yeah it might be a good idea for me to move on over to wip.. I have made some changes and i was realizing also that i was getting that dense mesh area where the laces are and i dont really know how to model then without doing it that way, is there any ideas? I i did do some htings that alowed me to give hte laces more detail without having detail in the rest of the shoe... hard to explain but hopefully the image will tell all. I still have alot of work to do on the laces to get them the right shape and to have them end in the right place and make them look like they are going in the ...ahhh .. "lace hole" heh. Tell me what you think. Thanks again!!
