View Full Version : Joints & geometry
-=SunDoWneR=- 11-22-2002, 12:55 AM Hi, ...
i have a small problem.
Subject: I modeld a Lamp with 3 joints and bound skin on the geometry. When i group the parts (model, joints,ikHandles), the joints just move slower, when i move the whole group, so they wont be in the geometry after moving ! (joint functionality isn't decreased !!!)
Question: How could I group the whole bunch of stuff propper !?

not sure why the joints would be moving slower, but try turning off the "Inherits transform" attribute on the geometry.. what you're getting with the geometry moving faster than the joints is called "double-transforms". Basically, you have the joints telling the geometry to move.. and the parent group of the geometry being told to move as well! turning off the "inheritsTransform" attribute on the geometry tells it not to pay attention to the parent group moving. Turn it off in the attribute editor and you should be sweeet-as.

Hi,...
+|-|xX for the fast reply.
I turned off the inherit transform for the joints and worked good!
another prob now, ... i created a cable along the back of the lamp and realized itz deformation and collision with rigid bodys (active for lamp, passive for cable),... was a bit unkomfortable to adjust the weight values ! The rigid bodys are visualized as x-es along the surface and now, they wont move with the group !!!
Is there a posibility to add 'em to the movement ?!

you can't really use rigid bodies for a cable.. that'd be deforming geometry, and it won't work with rigidBody dynamics. If you have unlimited, you can use maya cloth for the cable & that'll work well..

thanks pal, ...
It was really uncomfortable to weight the ridgits, it could work for a static one, but isn't dynamic in all directions. Messed up deformation !!! I'l try with cloth. (havn't an idea how to do this)
but if i've questions i'll post 'em !!!
PS: when my system is online, ... ill submit a Picture (2-5 days)
