Can anyone please tell me why the reflections of objects with alpha maps don't show up properly in my render?

My guess is that you need to raise your Render Settings>Options>Ray Depth value.

It's set at the default value of 15. Tried it at 50 and still didn't help.

Most peculiar. Is your reflection depth at default too? Does this happen in other files too?

Seems like I'm not the only one having this problem:

Anyway, I'll try to set up a separate smaller file for anyone interested in checking out what I'm doing wrong.

Works for me. Maybe you should send the scene to Maxon support so they can take a look at the problem

Hello Ariel,

I suspect that the lack of reflection, is in part, due to the angle of incidence.
Look into a mirror and angle it down and see where your reflection is ?

The same thing is happening with the angled glass. I'll post a render when
my test is done.

The flat vertical glass along the right side is also affected by camera angle.
If you change your camera angle around in front of the tree, I thnk that you
will see the reflection then.

HTH,
David

Edit:Here's my test render. As you can see, reflections don't always line up
where we think they'd be :)

David,

The black shape I circled is the tree's reflection. I confirmed it by hiding the tree in front. The black shape disappeared as well. Same case with the railings and the couple at the balcony. The problem is with the alpha maps which doesn't seem to work with reflections.

Tried creating a test file to duplicate the problem but the reflections came out right that time. I'm really at a loss to what's causing it in my other renders.

The culprit seems to be a corrupted C4D file. Copying all the objects and my render settings to a blank file appears to solve the problem.
