I have this 2D animation to do and it requires me to show 2 people basically walking through a forest holding hands.

I've decided to build the environment in 3ds max and use the Illustrate renderer to output to 2D, since it's easier for me to do and animate. The problem i'm left with now is how to do the characters walking. I am thinking of animating the 2 characters in flash (manually) walking and then overlay them onto the background. The problem is that it ends up looking quite dodgy (i've tried it and my animating in flash isn't very good). I'm not a great character modeller (so no cstudio), so my question is:

how else can i get some 2d characters walking through my forest? is there another program that can help me out?

has anyone seen the new silverchair film clip "love your life"? well, i am going for that effect (how'd they do that?)

You can try Moho:
http://www.lostmarble.com/

It's a 2D program that uses IK bone systems to animate characters. It costs $99. The evaluation copy lets you save your files, so you can give it a pretty good test drive before you buy it.

The beta of version 4 is available at
http://www.lostmarble.com/moho4
The bone system is much better in 4 than in 3.5, they've added joint rotation limits and the movement of one bone can influence others (sorta like Cinema 4D's Soft IK)

If you need help there's a big user group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/moho
