Awesome, thanks for sharing, zhuzhu! :)

It sounds like what is happening is that you do not have enough RAM to run both Painter and Camtasia? If possible, you might want to purchase more RAM so that both programs will run smoothly. I would love to see a video tut too! :)

Cheers,

Nice zhuzhu, thanks for sharing.
It's weird that you can't run Camtasia and Photoshop... cause I can and I only have 512 :)
Maybe it's your Processor... how fast is your Processor?

LoTekK
04-14-2006, 11:18 AM
That last Zorn is gorgeous.

As for your Camtasia issues, is your hard drive thrashing around a lot? If it is, you'll probably need to free up a bunch of RAM. The usual process, start shutting down stuff that you don't absolutely need while painting, freeing up as much RAM as possible. Which version of PS is that? 7.0? I know 7 isn't a big RAM hog, but Camtasia has a recommended RAM requirement of 1GB (though I know people who use it with 512MB with more demanding apps, like Maya).

If you're not getting a lot of HDD thrashing, then it's possible it could be your CPU, as ceresz has suggested. What size are you painting these at when using Camtasia?

zhuzhu
04-14-2006, 03:07 PM
ceresz:maybe my computer is too old,i bought it in 2001,haha, the Processor is Interel Pentium III 731MHz.

LoTekK:thanks,i used Photoshop 7.if both run PS 7 and Camtasia, just feel not smooth when painting use brushes, whatever the file size.maybe i should buy a new computer later.

do you mean how to define that brush? here it is. if i get you wrong, plz tell me.

save that jpg file first, in Photoshop 7, used the [Rectangular Marquee Tool] to make a selection, capture the brush dab. then [Define Brush] and do some brush setting. finally, you will get that Bristle brush, i suggest you save as toolprests will be better.

I REALLY LIKE THEM ALL SO FAR....BEAUTIFUL WORK.....think it woud be even more so, if
you spent just a little tiny bit more time on the hands, like you did on the one just above here, the
one that Rebecca likes.....really adds to the paintings, when the hands are completed..don't
have to be detailed, with the style you have going...just the gesture shoud be complete, and the hands just a bit more rounded and refined....will really add beauty to beauty...:)

Wow zhuzhu.. this is the sort of thread inspiration is made of!! I love absolutely everything here, without exception. I love your daring bold brush strokes that make my own stuff look stale and lifeless in comparison.. which is a good thing, because this sort of thing really gets me excited about trying new techniques. Love the Zorn copies, they're all gorgeous, though I'm with rebecca on liking that one of the two women best, the face of the closest woman is just gorgeous.

Zhuzhu, even though i saw all your work in SP thread in 5d before, I still have tears in my eyes when I see these here again.

guys, if you care to see how ZhuZhu work his way on painting, he has a book (well, in Chinese), he features about 50(rough numbers) OC event files. They are awesome, since they are not sold in US, you might want to ask ZhuZhu for some sample OC events from the books. :P I know it is not PS but that shows how Zhuzhu paint, that is his style. I play those events time and time again. LOVE them.

I hope ZhuZhu don't mind me telling this.

cheers

absolutely wonderful zhuzhu. I really like the almost impressionistic brushwork..

I would love to see more of how you apply the paint (or pixels in this case), It appears as a very "direct painting"/Alla prima approge , do you just carefully pick you colors and value and scruff it down with an opaque brush or are there glaces involved or mixing on the canvas?

BTW, did anyone know what Oasis means? i have check it with Google, but didn't find right answer.the original text about Oasis just from Jermy Sutton's book [ Painter IX Creativity ], i have been invited by some publishing company of China who want me translate this handbook in Chinese. dammmmmmmm... over 450 pages, that would really kill me.! "killing me softly with this book"... i can singing, aha~~~

original text :

I had been involved with Time Arts Oasis, the first Mac application to exploit the expressive pressure-sensitive capabilities of the Wacom tablet.

said by John Derry, the words of the book's Foreword.

is that means Oasis is a software who is the the first Mac application to exploit the expressive pressure-sensitive capabilities of the Wacom tablet? and how to explain Time Arts ?

forgive me to post these here, but i really need some help~~~:bounce:

Rebeccak
05-15-2006, 08:58 AM
zhuzhu,

John Derry (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?userid=109721) is a regular frequenter of CGTalk's Painter Forum. I would recommend contacting him about OASIS if he wrote the foreward. :)

It sounds as though Oasis was an early image program, perhaps introduced around 1990:

http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:9zV49KXRFoUJ:www.dam.org/gartel/1990.htm+%22Time+Arts+Oasis%22&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1

'Time Arts Oasis' means that Time Arts was the company that created Oasis, a Macintosh application.

1990
Also introduced at that time were programs such as Time Arts "Oasis" software and Electronic Arts "Studio 8" and "Studio 32" software. These were the programs of choice before Letraset's ColorStudio and Adobe's Photoshop really took hold of the market. These early programs however allowed me to explore unique possibilities that were currently non existent prior. For example, one could create all sorts of color ramping in order to make unique fills. Colors could also be smudged and manipulated. In the case of the Studio package, images could be made in multiple perspectives thus allowing a single image to be replicated in space. Either way the tools were giving way to myriads of creative choice.

It sounds like Oasis was an early image editor like Photoshop, but not nearly as advanced.

If the translation is to be sold, you will need to get the permission of the original authors / publishers to publish a translated version. :)

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Aawww love that! Man - that is art beyond reality. Love how you've incorporated so many colours into one piece and made it look more than real with it. Really love what you've done, more so how you've done it and of course what it means. This is piece is speaking.

well done - loving it. update soon!

I just checked back into this thread for the first time in weeks and it was a bit of a strain really to browse through all these wonderful studies.

I was continually like "Ah, Oh, Uh, wonderful, wow..."

I will have to check in more often so I can take the beauty of it all in smaller chunks...:D

Eagerly await your next update dude,

zhuzhu,

that last one is stunning in its simplicity! so economic with your strokes. One stroke creates complete emotion.

Some questions, if you don't mind:

I see you using Painter IX and we all know you're the expert on watercolors, both traditional and digital:

- Do you use the PainterIX watercolor engine (not the digital watercolor, I mean the brushes that go on a watercolor layer)?

- How do you set the brushes up?

- Do you still prefer Photoshop for your digital WC (using your brushes) or PainterIX or do you use both of them?

I am asking, because I can't handle Painter's watercolor brushes yet. If anyone can, you should be the man, so I am asking you...:D

Mu:thank you. about the Watercolor brushes in Painter, i think they are not easy uesd for basic painting.i mean it is hard to cortrol the brushwork cause most of them are "buildup" method.i'd like to use them for effect in the final steps. the "Lift Canvas To Water Color Layer" can make every painting convert as Watercolor layer.so you can use the Watercolor brushes to edit the Watercolor layer.

Photoshop and Painter both work for me~~~:) whatever solely or mix used.but i like Photoshop better.

are you sure it's not illegal to be that good that quick?

I tried that pose, too and totally failed compared to you.
That is so inspiring! Erm, not my failure, but your treatment of the pose...:D

The way you captured the essence and beauty of the two dancers!

So few strokes. So little time.

Argh!

This last one rocks my boat! Love what it is doing. You have put the life back into the figures you have drawn, and they are no longer just two figures on a canvas. If I ever get to you where you are, I will be a happy chappy.

EDIT: I have a question - do you always start with a midtone? Now that I think about it, it seems alot more useful...

keep inspiring,

Oh my. Oh my. Zhu... this stopped my breath in my throat. Literally. Its quite possibly the most gorgeous digital quickie I've ever seen. If this was a real, large format painting, I''d pay for it without question. Such life, such movement, such a feeling for the picture that goes way beyond just merely seeing shapes and values.

Excuse me a moment, I need to sit here and sigh admiringly for a while.

How much time does it take you to do these, Zhuzhu? I'm not going to ask how do you make them look so awesome, because that's a thing one has to learn and it needs lots of practise.

I really like the variety of colors and how they "combine" with each other and how it defines the form greatly and the mood of every one of your wc sketches and also the sketchines of it and...aah, i could go here all day :)

Also, I wanted to read your watercolor painting tutorial, but the images jus won't show up. Any suggestions what to do?
