I imported an obj file into maya. I subdivide it, put a basic shader on it and then prceed to render it in mental ray....the poly count isnt very hi when subdivided..(around 10,000 polys) and when mental ray goes to render it it says "transforming objects" in the command line at the bottom of the screen and then after around 5 mins it says its ran out of memory...i re-modeled the object in maya so it isnt a obj file and it didnt say "transforming objects" when i rendered it and it rendered fine...

it does this for all obj files that i import...is there anyway to fix this problem?

thanks

did u do a cleanup on the obj file before rendering..? were all the normals facing outward as i've noticed this can make radiosity renders take a lot longer.... just chucking ideas out there really.. :)
