View Full Version : still : audi allroad
hannibar 11-21-2002, 04:07 PM Update : go to second page
I know it's kinda cliché to make a car nowadays, but I wanted to test what I was capable of anyway so here it is.
It's an Audi Allroad Quattro.
Modelled in blender, rendered in Lightwave.

That's great model. Looks really good. Though i liked the image withput noise. The first one has to big noise.
No crit from me basically. ;)
Didi u render it in FinalRender ?

the noise is much too heavy.
Also, something about the tires makes it look like a hotwheels car.

looks like a close up of a toy car to me ? but a very realistic one ;)
i think the tires are it that make me think of toy ?

yes, I would try to fix those wheels...

Very good image. Noise adds a nice little touch but i would take it down a bit. The first thing that came into my mind when i saw the "hannibal" thing at the front was the nintendo logo. Of cuorse thats not what you wanted but thats the first thing t come to my mind. Im also wanting to see a real shadow minus the GI faked shadow. Great image though!

i have to comment on those wheels too :hmm:
something about them doesn't look right... too fat and small? atleast the rims are too small... and maybe too shiny to fit the car?
otherwise the model looks pretty good

I think the problem with the wheels is that their to far out

i think the plasticy texture on the mags and too much dof mak it look like a small toy . fantastic modelling though

yup, there is something definately wrong about the wheels :D.. just don't look right..
i also think that it would be better if u turned down the noise a bit.. seems to be a bit too high ;)

yup. wheels. And the material looks like a toy to me too. Hard to tell from this angle, but it looks like maybe the wheels couldn't turn without running into the car body. Really great modelling though. Like everyone said. Man I'm unoriginal. :hmm:
I think the toyish outlook comes from the seams that seem a little too round and blown up. Otherwise a nice job!

Thanks for the comments.
tariel : It's rendered in Lightwave's renderer. I agree about the DOF. I will fix that in the next update.
stephen2002 and others : I just used a bumpmap for the wheels. Even with extremely high bump settings, It looks way to flat an weird. So I'll model some new tires for the next update.
LordShaitan : I already adjusted the hannibal materials a bit. You'll see the results later.

I think that the DOF partly has something to do with it looking like a toy.

Here's an update.
I modelled the tires now instead of using a bumpmap, I lowered the DOF a bit, changed the number plate materials, and moved the wheels a bit more inside. Hope you like it. I also lowered the noise.

still a bit heavy on the noise...and the headlights one can really tell are textured.
overall, nice modeling, good render

and the headlights one can really tell are textured.
Do you mean I just put a texture on a flat piece of mesh??
Not at all. I modelled the headlights, and gave them some nice materials. No image map is used.
By the way. Are the tires better now. I put quite some effort into modelling them and I'd like to know if they look good.

nothing for to add about the render, to me its perfect all i can say is that, those newer audis have like, very accurate lines and i think the mesh modeling (if im correct) is messing it up a bit
you really improved the tires but i think the rims could be slightly bigger, i could be wrong but thats just what they look like to me in real life,
overal great work man,.....

Great work. I like your update the tires look much better, I would say that the noise is distracting. If you took it off the car and just had it on the background, maybe that would help. Anyways better then i could ever do. Keep up the good work.

yeh looking good.. the tyres look more appropriate now.. good job
i've got to comment on the paint job.. i don't know if it's just the light, but it's got a very satin sheen to it, and i'm sure real cars don't have that, normally they're all pretty shiny with very crisp reflections, i'm sure if you changed this then the car would take on a whole new look
just an example of the paint job.. i found in another thread

Here's another render. Added grass, added sky, made an interesting sepia effect.

That is some seriously good modelling skills. I think making cars is a nice change, cause you don't have to deform them. Do me a favor and tell me how you did the headlights like that. Also, did you just use a bump map on teh tires?
Good work
cheers

The tires are modelled. In the earlier pics they were bumped, but that didn't lok very right, so I modelled them.
The headlights are very easy. I first made a glass cage to put on top of it. Then I made some sort of plane behind the glass, with holes modelled in it. For the texturing I used an enviroment map, and made it 75 % grayscale. Then I applied a bumpmap to distort the enviroment map a little more et voila...

Wooow....reallllly good work you've done here!!!
//But hey...loose the noise...or temper it more...i think it is ruining your beautiful still

Looking pretty good! A couple of things though. First, I think the tires still don't look right, there needs to be more space between the tire and the wheel well. The audi rides a little higher than that, even at a low suspension height setting. My other 2 crits might be a U.S. model only thing so forgive me if I'm wrong. Here the wheel arches are a flat black urethane type stuff. Also, the roof is usually a flat charcoal grey type of paint. Looks very good, great job!!!
