View Full Version : best nvidia driver for 6800 td 128mb agp 3ds max 7
bernieLomax 11-27-2005, 12:04 PM hi everybody,
this is my problem:
my graphics cards has a tendency to go crazy on me, while i´m working on my computer. it suddently changes resolutions and zooms in the image upper left corner. distorting completly the screen. when this happens i suddently loose control of my computer - it feels like going blind - and i have to acess it thru VNC from another computer. This errors aren´t common in a way that i can predict how often they will happen. So this is my problem. is it drivers or power supply.
my system:
dual XEON 3.0 ghz
NCCH-dl ASUS
2 gb mem
enlight 460W
asus geforce 6800 agp 128 mb
maxtor 160gb Sata

I seem to be having similar issues, I too have an asus 6800td. Although I don't have the zoom to right upper screen, sometimes I do have 100%cpu usage (screen halting 30 seconds, frame, wait 30 seconds, frame, that idea) when attempting to run applications in windowed mode.
I'm guessing it has to do with driver conflicts. I had a radeon 9600 before this one, and I think the drivers are conflicting with one another (although I removed the old ones, etc).
I really don't want to reformat...

Ahh, mine used to do that, never could work out wtf caused it. If its any help, heres what I discovered:
Only happens when dual screens are enabled
Only ever happened to the primary screen
Not related to the screen
It would happen maybe once every few hours, changing resolution by guessing the cursor location fixed it each time. Hasn't done it for a few months so I assumed the drivers fixed it (77.72 here)
Oh, one more thing, it was related to video files. As soon as a video player opened for example, that would trigger it, maybe 10% of the time, even browsing through a folder of videos would make it happen as it generated thumbnails. Perhaps a really badly behaved codec? check for latest versions of divx, xvid etc.

I'd say its driver related... Even just using a driver cleaner would probably of worked to get rid of the issue then reinstalling them. But hopfully the reformat will do the trick.

so i went and formatted my machine and f....k sake, it is the same except for the cooler problem that all of the sudden used to shutdown... so the zoom problem remains... all the same.
the main problem is that have to acess my computer thru VNC to change any display properties so that all returns to normal...
my current display drivers are 77.77

Have you installed any third party codecs or is the install still fresh? Im fairly sure its related to a video codec of some sort, especially as opening a folder full of videos used to trigger the problem for me quite often.

so here i am really late in the evening... almost morning.
and i decided to give my graphics card another chance and another go for it...
this time i assume that it has an identity problem and it needs to have this problem corrrected... so i softmoded it to have 16 pipelines and 6 vertex shading active instead of 12 5 each...
this time i´m going to leave rivatunner open all night and since my problem it´s not graphics intensive i´m going to monitor my computer behavior thru the rest of the night...
willl report later tomorrow...

ok so the mod didn´t solve the issue... but i have 16x 6 pipesXvertex in my graphics card...
this time when my problem happend i had rivatunner turner on in monitor mode so it was able to record a huge change in FB voltage i think but i will poost the results soon...
hugs bern
It is possible something is wrong with the card, have you tried to use the card in a different system?
