View Full Version : Global, Local or normal mode problems
deli-rium 11-27-2005, 10:37 AM Hiya,
I am trying to model in Maya7 and I get this issue that I don't know how to go about it.
I create a sphere then select a face and do "W+LMB" to go to local or normal mode but the handles stay the same and nothing really happens. In the normal mode handle disappears for good.
I also tried in though the mai menu and still nothing. Am I forgeting something or doing something wrong?
Please, :banghead:

AFAIK it only works in vertex mode.

Really?
How am I supposted to scale, transfer o rotate according to a normal or local mode then?
is there any other way?

Hi,
You can try this. Select the face then select "Align along\Align axis with edge/face" from the "w+LMB" marking menu. Then select an edge or face to determine the axis to use.
There is also a good mel script for all axis realted operations called "local tools" in the highend3d website.

Yep. I already got it. Thanks.
Other thing:
Maya crashed on MJ PolyTools and all statistics in the viewports died. I get no OpenGl hardware acceleration message. I checked every option and it is still there but inspite of it, it isn't working anymore.
Furthermore, my manipulators miss arrows now.
F..., :scream:!!! What's going on?
I reinstalled Maya. Nothing. Checked my drivers (ATI omegas, of course).

All back to normal although I have not changed anything. Just switch few things on and off + restart and it seems it worked. It got its OpenGL on again.
Hey, Autodesk, How about some improvements, huh?
Well, actually I did one thing. I copied my OpenGL library file "libglib-2.0-0.dll" to maya/lib folder.
It also may have worked, if it's of any interest to anyone.

If you just create a sphere and do nothing to it, all modes will have the same orientation of the manipulator. If you rotate the sphere, then the object orientation of the move manipulator will be different form the world's one. If you also parent the object to another and rotate the parent then all three modes will be different. Normal mode works only on vertices and CVs.
In addition to those the new version have a lot of new alignment features – double click on the move tool icon to access all of them, or as already suggested use the marking menu for another way to use them.

Here we go again.
No OpenGl acceleration again message. It didn't crash or anything. Also all pluggins weren't uploaded as they should.
How the f... am I supposed to work when every now and then the performance drops like hell, just because it can't see my cards OpenGl?

this trick seems to work. I had this file in the maya/lib/ directory called "libglib-2.0-0.dll". It is a opengl 2 library.
I deleted it started Maya. No OpenGl. Copied it back again and voila. It works. WTF? It isn't even Maya's library file.
