gey I am looking into buyinh either of this two

nut I really can't tell what the diff is. I know the CAS latency is different and I thin that 2 is slightly better thatn 3 but I really dont know what everything else means or how to pick.I don't know what the timings mean?
any info is aprreciated

Do NOT be fooled by these "dual-channel" memory kits ... in my mind they are a complete hoax, as two standard DDR dimm's will work just fine in dual-channel mode. There is NO SUCH THING as "dual-channel memory." Just keep that in mind first of all. With that said, the next thing I have to say is: do NOT be fooled by low-latency RAM as being way better than standard ram. If you buy into the whole low-latency ram thing, you've just wasted your money. You can save literally hundreds of dollars by purchasing regular ram that isn't labeled "dual-channel" or "low-latency" and STILL get high-performance, and STILL run your ram in dual-channel mode. Okay, now that I've got both of those points out, let me point you no further than a pair of these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Manufactory=1459&PropertyCodeValue=521%3A7965&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&description=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=&SubCategory=147&Submit=Property) modules. I have two of them running in dual-channel mode, and my system performs just as well as it would with "low-latency" ram, and guess what .. they aren't labeled dual-channel. This ram is paired with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ processor, and a GeForce 6600GT GPU and it performs like mad ... save your money and buy standard ram modules.

what about timing numbers. What do they mean?
Don;t get me wrong I have read and rean but it depends on what you read some say it really makes a difference while others say that it doesn't. I take it that a heat spreader is really necessary

no a heat spreader is not neccessary...though they work just like a heatsink in the case of serious overclocking...in other words...if you don't overclock and have sufficient standard cooling in your case then heat spreaders do nothing for you but cost you a bit more...
