Ahoy.. any ideas on how i might go about animating a very short sequence of a parachute opening? Probably over 1.5 - 2 secs, a kinda cartoony little ball has jumped from it's plane.

I've seen this: http://www.eatbug.net/work_main.htm

Possible ideas so far.. Just a simple lattice over the chute as it unfolds quite quickly with it's center pivot at the tip of the chute to give the ball some weight?

you could try blendshape, having a few blendshapes of the chute opening.

I'd advise to use 4-5 blendshapes too. Anyway you gotta animate the transition between each new shape and the way it accelerate. And also the whole parachute and guy overlap motion.

I gess the guy you gave the website (who is really good) did it using a massive usage of dynamics and 8 cornered piece of cloth (Maya plugin)

When you go for a more or less classical animation (or semi-assisted) method you often have a better management on the result (which get better as you are good in animation)
