Hi all I have a few things i would like to perfect, as well as hear others out and hopfully get some tips from all the good folks here.

Im wondering how one would go about keeping consistency on something.
Im working on a spray cap [perfection] and the caps round but all of a sudden it has a hole put into it. In 3d modeling if you just give something a hole, polys it takes to make the hole mess up the consistency of the mesh.

How would you go about something like this? Heres is a ex of something to get a feel for what i mean.

Thanks alot.
James

Imagine you have two circles that are the same size, one made out of few edges, the other made out of many. When you subdivide these two circles the one with fewer edges will end up smaller.
In your mesh you have more verts around the hole area than you do in the rest of the mesh, so that part of the mesh is larger after its subdivided.
So, the best thing to do is to add additional vertical edges. Adding horizontal edges will have an effect to, but not nearly so much, because the mesh isn't curved in that axis.

These might give you an idea.

shonner thats no problem. put a hole in something thats round. like a spray cap, or put a hole in a cylinder with a screw in it on a rouneded piece.

I guess my example didn't have enough curve to it. I'll find a better example tonight.

Using the same control lines from the example above for smoothing a square into a circle on a spray top. I used only quads.

If you have NURBS, it takes two seconds to model.
