No, thanks to you for creating such art! May I ask you to share the technique? Maybe some step images. I want to try something new and I find your style interesting and great looking.
I like fantasy art. Where did I read this "every fantasy artist must paint a "dash through battlefield" pic". Just as some guys I know used to joke that a real 3D artist must create a kitchen, a chick and Audi TT.
EDIT: Oh, forgot to ask. Has Frazetta painted a "dash through battlefield" peace? :D

Hey Thomas,
Great work, I especially like 26 and 39 of the anatomy series and your horse/dog sketches from earlier on in your thread. Those two anatomy series drawings have the blending/feel of master's works, which is always great to see in a repro. Your stuff from your head is nice too, on your last post, the angle of the bent leg seems a little funny to me, but still very impressive with no reference!
I look forward to checking out any further posts by you, keep up the drawing!
Cheers,
Gracie

Hi.....Siju...:)
You know it is too bad that photobucket see's the unclothed human figure as obsene and perferse, and worthy of their cencorship, while at the same time they allow bood, gore and
violence to go uncenored, and worthy of thier promotion.....a deffinite perversion of the facts of life and reality by them...but then that is how perverts such as they define and portray LIFE.
They are reapping what they sow, and it is comiming back to haunt us all....them included..
I always host my own work....no way am I going to let ignorance silence my thought and expression...:)

Hmmm, I think it needs quite a bit of work, Apart from the deltoids, none of the muscles read very well at all, and some of them are plain wrong. Also, the mesh itself is very soft and smooth, like an ice sculpture that's meletd a bit - you really need to fight against that, and try to sharpen things up a bit - that really is the secret to getting good zbrush sculpts.

Oddity, I appreciate your comments but I beg to differ, The anatomy is wrong in the original reference by Michelangelo and SpiritDreamer has put that point across nicely and please look at my drawings ,I think u will see that I do know my anatomy rather well!
As far as sharpness goes I hate the sharp alpha loaded stuff that gets shown around and appreciated in Zbrush central!I personally will not like to do such stuff!
I saw your centaurette , nice render, great subsurface scatter , but I would think lots of anatomical errors on that one , too many to name , I can do a draw over if you are interested!

I agree the original is somewhat inaccurate, but what exactly is the purpose in copying the inaccuracies from the original? Wouldn't it be a better exercise to keep the spirit of the orignal, but with accurate anatomy?
I can still see a lot of differences between the model and the drawing, so it's not as if you were totally concerned with cloning it, and as such, I think it would have been better to only copy the accurate parts, and add to that your own knowledge of anatomy to complete the whole.
As it is, your model has taken the wrongness of the drawing and exacerbated it.
Forgive me for being a neanderthal, but I'm not sure what the purpose of a completely inaccurate anatomy study is.
As far as sharpness goes I hate the sharp alpha loaded stuff that gets shown around and appreciated in Zbrush central!I personally will not like to do such stuff!
It's not about that sort of sharpness, its about defining muscle shapes accurately with clean, concise, readable lines. It's a technique failure on your part, so I don't see the point in tryng to mask it by saying 'I meant to do that'.
The first step to improving is admitting you're wrong.
I saw your centaurette , nice render, great subsurface scatter , but I would think lots of anatomical errors on that one , too many to name , I can do a draw over if you are interested!
Yes, I am interested, please point out my errors, that's why I post my work here, and I assume is the actual point of the forum, to learn and improve, not to boost egos by getting hollow praise, though to see the way some people go crazy when recieving criticism, you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise.

Hi guys,
Before this turns into a flame war, let's remember a few things.
Originally posted by oDDity: It's not about that sort of sharpness, its about defining muscle shapes accurately with clean, concise, readable lines. It's a technique failure on your part, so I don't see the point in tryng to mask it by saying 'I meant to do that'.
The first step to improving is admitting you're wrong.
oDDity, here's another way of stating the same thing without closing the ears of the person you're critiquing:
"I understand what you are saying, but I think that you could more clearly define muscle shapes and more accurately so with clean, concise, readable lines. This is my opinion, and everyone approaches modelling differently."
Originally posted by oDDity: Yes, I am interested, please point out my errors, that's why I post my work here, and I assume is the actual point of the forum, to learn and improve, not to boost egos by getting hollow praise, though to see the way some people go crazy when recieving criticism, you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise.
I actually don't disagree with the substance of this statement. The purpose of the forum is to learn and to improve. Being able to accept and incorporate constructive critique is an essential and important part of growing as an artist.
That being said, I sense that you, ODDity, are being intentionally dense in not listening to what I requested of you in terms of modifying your tone. As I said by pm, I think that as much as you are asking others to listen to critique of your work, you need to listen to critique of your tone on public forums. You have stated yourself that you have heard this critique before. If you expect others to accept your critique of their work, then you need to be equally receptive and positively responsive in terms of the way you state things on public forums. It is not about the substance of your comments, which I think is quite useful - as I have stated now three times, it is about the tone.
I value everyone's contributions here.
SpiritDreamer / Glenn, there is no need for you to jump in here. Nor is there need to further discuss this publicly. Nor is there need for Thomasphoenix / Siju to jump in here to further discuss this issue.
Let's talk about the work in a reasonable way. I think that ODDity's contributions in terms of the substance of his critique are refreshingly useful, but intentional further antagonism of artists on this forum will not be greeted with enthusiasm. Giving constructive criticism is one thing; doing so in order to pick a fight is quite another.
If an artist whose work you critique cannot accept constructive criticism, then you must accept that as a failure on their part, or possibly as a failure on your part to communicate effectively, or both - and move on.
That is hopefully the end of the need for this discussion, on this, or on any other thread. Let's please get back to work.
-Rebecca

Hi...Siju... :)
I like the sharpness in the side that is closest to the viewer...was wondering if you can make the far side softer now, and in shadow, so that it creates more depth. I think that as long as it has skin color, it falls into a painting catagory,...and if it is a painting, then the princaples of depth perspective apply..created with atmosphere by making the far side softer, and in shadow.
JUST A THOUGHT..... and JUST ONE WAY OF SEEING IT...:)

Johann Mudbox is very Natural for a Sculptor or Draughtsman! It has real perspective camera settings and even the highest level of detail can be sculpted straight on the model! The export routines are very simple also ! Zbrush is good ,"but" this is More fun and easier for me!
Glenn ! he he Im learning to use it, its so good it brings one to his level of incompetency or
lack of reference images in my case almost immediately! Im able to translate almost 60-70%
of whats in my mind ,other modeling packages can do 30-40%.Its right up your Alley though I think you will be up and away in a day on mudbox. Its a very artist friendly and intutive workflow! natural for any artist even if he is not very software savvy!
Amarinder ,thanks ! by the way Im In faridabad rt now for some time !
Anand ,thanks for the kind words,I'll do a step by step once I have fully explored Mudbox, rt now im working with two or three tools.

Hi...Syju...:)
REALLY NICE interlacing of the tendons and muscles around those knee caps....really nice flow of form....GREAT JOB...
I have been neglecting my Z BUSH progrm lately, while playing around with the drawings from my figure drawing class..but am thinking of combining some Z BRUSH with my class drawings...might make an interesting combo...don't think I have seen that done anywhere yet.
I tried it in one painting so far, just to capture the idea and thought behind it , so I wouldn't forget..:)
I'm thinking about getting that Mud Box software...waiting to see more of your work done using it before I decide though...GOT YOU..:scream:

Hey, ThomasPhoenix. Just dropping by to say how much your sketches are helping me. I just got more into depth of arm, forearm and hand anatomy and your sketches show the muscles very well, even if that sketchy. Shows the masses of muscles well, making it easy for me to understand where is which muscle and to see it in various angles.
I'm fascinated how freely you're doing these. More, please :)

Mudbox.
This is from a base mesh done by Arshlevon back at mudbox forums ,I recommend all who have zbrush or mudbox and dont know polymodeling in maya, max or xsi to take this route of using a simple base mesh and sculpting from there.

Now that's an impressive looking man. Is he going to be wearing pants? His lack of a genitals is a little scary looking. He is a bit symmetric though, I don't think I have ever seen a person with mirrored veins. This mudbox looks fantastic, although I dunno if its worth it for me at least when zbrush 3.0 comes out.
I think breaking symmetry goes at the very end of the modelling job. I would only make the thighs more massive, too thin now, I think. Love the overall looks of the model. I think I'll be doing a 3d anatomy study too, just a bit different from this. So this is of great inspiration to me!
Are you thinking of texturing him? Posing? What's next when the model is finished?
As a visual fx rookie, would you say it would be worthwhile to learn mudbox? Zbrush too?
Fantastic model you have there!

HEY...Siju...:bounce: :)
Sounds GREAT...I will head up to the comic shop tommarrow and see if I can get a copy...there's a comic shop pretty close to where I live, if I can't find it there, I will check with some of the shops in downtown Boston. ...Can't wait to see it...From what I read, it sounds like a confrotation between Dutch Shults, who was alot crazy, and Legs Diamond..two real life characters from that era..There are two old movies, a couple of my favorites on the gangster theme...One I believe is called DUTCH SHULTS..Played by Vic Morrow,...and the other one is The Legs Diamond Story,..played by ..Ray Danton...haven't seen them in a long time..I know you like the movies, so I just thought that I would mention those two, in case you haven't seen them .

HEY ...Siju..:)
I just got a copy of your second DOC WALLOPER book....FANTASTIC JOB THERE SIJU..:applause:  Looks like you are getting more relaxed with those characters..really showing in your drawings....I also like the, page layout, colors, and perspectives alot...especally in the second book,..not that the first one was bad, but the second one is even better...:)
I found your book in the shop by where I live, ...It was sitting on the shelf, right next to two of FRANK FRAZETTA'S books,..DEATH DEALER, and some other one, can't remember it's tittle off hand.
Your costing me alot of money here Siju, ..because everytime I go into this shop, to get your books, ..I end up getting not only yours, but others as well...:scream: The first time I went to get your first book, I got yours, and then a FRAZETTA comic..had to get it just for its cover painting alone,5 bucks..then I ended up buying a real nice big hardcover book called..CONAN THE PHENOMENON ...The Legacy of Robert E Howard's Fantasy Icon, by Paul M. Sammon..30 bucks, plus the cost of yours..
Then on my second trip to get your second book, I ened up getting your book, ..plus another nice big hard cover book..called ...IMAGINISTIX...BORIS VALLEJO and JULIE BELL..Great book, full of alot of full color paintings that I haven't seen before.. Another 30 bucks, plus the cost of yours.. :scream:
ANYWAY, ..When I go to pick up your third book, I think I will leave my wallet at home,LOL:scream: and only take enough money for your book..:)
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK..Siju...I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing #3 of DOCK WALLOPER

HEY...Siju:wavey::)
I just got done with #3 of the DOC WALLOPER series that your working on...GREAT DRAWINGS, COLOR, LIGHTING AND LAYOUT...
This time, I walked away from that book store with four books...Gets worse each time I go in there, LOL:scream:
I stumbled upon one by STJEPAN SEJIC/NEBEZIAL, another CG member whose work I really like..called WITCH BLADE..he's really doing some great stuff also.
Then of course I had to get another one of FRANK FRAZETTA'S DARK KINGDOM series...Then on the way out the door, I saw another book cover that really caught my eye...very dynamic...turnes out, it was another one by STJEPAN SEJIC/NEBEZIAL called UNHOLY UNION..MARVEL COMICS..So I had to have that one also..:)
I wonder how much money that store is going to get from me when I pick up, #4 in the DOC WALLOPER series that your doing, which should be in soon I hope...:)
Hey, I was wondering if you have heard anything on the movie end of this project that you've been working so hard on..just curious..It would make a great movie I think..:)
ANYWAY.Seju..Just thought I would bump you up to the front page of this forum where you belong.
KEEP UP THE FANTASIC WORK...ALWAYS INSPIRED, AND ALSO VERY INSPIRING.
Hope all is well with you and yours.

Hi Glenn, Thanks for reading DW.The issues 4 and five are better than the rest :).
This one is a 3 hour study of Frank Frazetta's outlaw of Torn.Eyeballed and fast so it will have lots of errors.

Here is the next study from Frazetta

I've always been very fond of the original of that, so it clouds my perception of a study, but that is pretty darn good. Seems like the emphasis is more even across the study then in the original (the 3 clawing up from below are a lot more noticeable to me in this study). It looks like you're moving through these pretty quickly, yet you're still capturing the look and feel, good stuff :).
Hell this is better than good!
This is excellent!
It's great to see you active here again Siju!
Lots of jummie with each post!

Wow!!....
Awesome to have you posting again, Thomas. I was waiting for your Frazetta studies and now I'm happy to see some! These seem to be going quite fast for you. A good choice for a study. Ha, but I think there can't be bad choices when choosing from Frazetta's pieces. Death dealer rocks!!
