smurfted 11-23-2005, 10:46 AM My starwars animation still rendering, i've been having a dabble with c4dcafe.com composite tutorial..
So i started out with this..

And ventured into a special effect..

Then decided to try his cloaking device..

And a close-up..

The cloaking device thing is cool but your shot with the preditor in the city isn't quite there yet. He really stands out. maybe because everything else is blurry? i'd maybe look at getting another back ground in there or blurring him too so he looks the same as the guy standing on the right. I think maybe he's too dark as well. I like where you're going with the laser vision look though. keep us posted

The backdrop is going to be different shortly, working on the animation first, and here is where its going..

Did you use mocap for the ending scene? Its looks too organic (realistic) compare to the intro

That i did.. I'm looking into the jump at the start as we speak..

Okay now i've reduced the noise, given him a reflection on the ground, done the broken camera thing, made a new laser effect, given him his shoulder cannon, changed the camoflage effect and looked again at the animation of his landing and jumping..

What do you think?

Animation wise, the dropping down from the sky and jumping to the side wall animation could use some work, making it more realistic and natural. And one question, why would the predator use the laser if he would go to the camera and use his claw/blade? Aside from that I like the broken camera effect and the cloaking.

Admitidly there wasn't too much thought went into my plot, though maybe he wanted to have a look at what a camcorder was doing, on a tripod, recording in an alleyway, on it's own? At the same time keeping it covered by his cannon..
I'm thinking of making some dust, or even cracks as he lands on the ground, to show his weight a bit better.. I tried adding more inertia to him as he lands, but it made him look to soft..

I think you may need to blur the ground reflection a bit. It looks too clean. Good lighting though.
Also it would be great if you could animate the camera a bit. I know that if a Predator was coming after me. I might be shaking or trying to get away.

For the animation to look more appealing, you could apply "follow through" principle when he falls, for eg, he lands on the ground then his body keep going down but his leg is on the ground and not moving, then his body springs up back(something like making his body more springy but not that obvious). I'm not sure how to explain this clearer but I hope u get what I mean.

Okay then now i've cracked the ground where he lands, made the refeclection rougher, put a little smoke there too, applied a little squash to him as he lands, made his dreadlocks move, got him breathing, increased his polygon count and upped his camoflague a bit..

What do you now think?

Cool stuff, now it feels and look more natural when he drops down. I hate to be picky but I think there's more point u can improve upon and make it great
1. The ground looks wet cos its reflective. And the whole scene gives me an impression of after rainy condition. So why is there dust when he falls down???
2. The animation when he jumps over to the side wall: There is not anticipation here and it feels fake from this point on. He should take a motion back then only start the jump, as what I learned about animation, almost every action has anticipation in order for it to look believable.
3. This one is really minor, I don quite believe in him jumping to a vertical wall, and then jump from there. But I just couldnt digest it, maybe most people wont think twice about it but I just can't. Maybe you could add a fence there or perhaps some cracks or hole there for him to hold on to.

How about this for a different type of jump?

Okay so now i've made a fire escape for him to bounce from, sped up his final decent and increased the specularity of his mask..

Hey! looks neat!
A few things I notice with the animation... first, the jump seems like he's being pulled up by something... I know some people have said stuff about it; the antic does help the action.
Second, the attack is cool, I personally would give it more punch, whip... try keeping his arm close to him a few more frames, twist his body, then whip out his arm in a couple of frames... and hold the last pose, really favoring it. It almost looks like he's reaching out to touch a face ;)
I hope this makes sense and that it helps!
Neat compositing idea too, and he model is awesome!

He looks like hes on ice. Is that what you intended? The reflection and his feet and the texture of the model makes the scene look very slippery and cold. Also the animation of the model has little motion so it looks strange when he moves at such a great distant

Wow, the improvments really spiced it up. Like the fire escape idea! Looks great at the moment!
