View Full Version : Tutorial on using caustics to create motion graphics
I get loads of e-mails from people asking me to explain the technique I used for this movie. Click here (http://www.hypa.tv/tims/hypacaustic.html)

I have written a short tutorial that explains the technique.
Click here to go to the tutorial (http://www.hypa.tv/tims/download.html) It is the top right item.
Enjoy..

many thanks for sharing.
I like that you let us create the file to get the result.
This is way more intensive than downloading a finished file.

p.s. If you want to get that chromatic abberation look to it then use 3 different IOR for the glass and render 3 times using Red, Green and Blue lights. Then composite using Add mode.

my samples in the material illumination tab only go up to 100000. Is this right? Or is my app wonky. I am using 9.5
Edit:

Hi, maybe this is a really stupid question, but I have had no formal training and I dont really know what I am doing, but I have tried using caustics as well as affect radiosity in my renders and when I go into the caustics screen in render options its all gray, I can't check or uncheck anything, the same thing applies when I try and affect caustics on a light object, I feel that perhaps I am just stupid and dont know what I am doing, please help, Oh im using 8.2 if that matters. Thanks

You need the advanced render for caustics. I sounds to me like you don't have it :(
