ok... i made a car... banged in a nice sky object with that uffizi hdri probe thing, put a car on the plane which i want the shadows on, but dont want a plane there...i just want the shadows, and i want to make it seem like its making the shadow on the sky object... umm.. how do i go about doing this? btw does anyone have a large res version of the background? (uffizi_probe-600.tif that i got from that hdri place... you know)

If you have Release8 I can give you the HDRI image (1500x1500x24).

In answer to your question put a render (compositing) tag on the plane and make sure the cast shadows is on and the seen by camera is off. :)

Ah, nevermind, i already have that 1500 one, but... it somehow doesnt look that detailed on the render...
I tried turning seen by camera off, but then i couldnt see any shadows either...

well.. looking at that, it is actually quite detailed, detailed enough anyway if i give it some DOF:

ok hmm well yes you need that shadow... don't follow the switch seen by camera off (unless you don't want to see any floor at all let alone shadows).

render out the viewport you want to look through with nothing in it. save this image as a jpg or whatever. make a new material and put this texture in it's color channel.

bring back all your objects you wish to render, add a compositing/render tag tot eh floor and switch compositing backgroudn on.

put your material onto the plane, change the mapping type to "Frontal projection".

render.

i hope this works (i've not tested it myself just yet as i'm working on another project right now, but show an image of what you get done).

ah, here it is, frontal, and the texture in the colour bit... you can clearly see the edges of the plane, i thied the same with a floor object, but still no good, then tried the texture in the lumination bit... no shadows... ive seen cars (cant remember if with c4d though) on this same background, with shadows... hmm... this is a problem.

ADD: ah! no! forgot that compositing background bit :p rendering again now, thanks for help sadie!

ADD: ADD: Noooo! argh :annoyed: no shadows! no radiosity emitted onto the plane now...
