Hi,

Sorry this is a bit off-topic, but I figure a lot of you might be considering upgrading hardware, so I was hoping some serious tech-heads could weigh in on this.

I'm about to invest in another workstation. I wish I could afford a dual processor/dual core, but I can't.

I'm looking at either a dual xeon 3.2 from Dell or a dual core 3.8 single processor from Boxx.

It seems only logical that the dual core would be slower than the dual xeon processors in the rendering dept., but that's not what I'm gleaning from the little I'm reading about this topic.

Can anyone with more knowledge about this give me some advice?

One thing to consider- how do any external renderers you use react to dual core processors? Some renderers will only let you use one processor at a time, unless you get a node locked version. Does dual core avoid that? I know dual processor doesn't.

Good question. I don't know the answer.
