View Full Version : Type of codec for little web movie
HI people,
I've got a little question about the codec to use in my web .mov file.
I like h264 and AAC for sound, but I've noticed that many windows users don't see it, unless they installl the last version of quicktime.
So what kind of codec to you think are well for all users, both mac and windows?
thank a lot!

It's a scale, where in one end you have old formats like MPEG, which give you global compatibility and low quality - and in the other end, you have new codecs like H.264 with optimized quality, but low compatibility, because the codecs are so new.
Quicktime Sorenson 3 and DivX AVI are in the middle of the scale, giving very reasonable quality, and compatibilty on any Windows/Linux/Mac machine that has an owner interested in watching downloaded video clips. :)
But whatever you do, don't use RealVideo or Windows Media. Those formats are higher than nuclear weapons and nerve gas on the list of "worst things ever invented my mankind". Just don't.
Cheers,
- Jonas
and for audio what kind of codec do you think is better?
thankS!

AAC works fine with Sorenson 3.
Some apps will let you use MP3 with DivX, which is of course great. I think that's reasonably compatible, too.

But AAC is mp3? is compatible? or A law 2:1 is more compatible?
sorry for my questions and thanks a lot!

No, I don't think AAC is the same as MP3.
I don't know if A law 2:1 is more compatible. :)

thanks, I'll try the various combination...
bye bye!
