ASCI Purple will be built using 12,544 IBM Power5 microprocessors, the same chips that are used in Apple PCs and Nintendo games systems.

That sure would make a nice renderfarm.

360 terraFlops and 184.000.000. dollars for Nuclear Explosions Simulations???? My brain thinks this is decadent and full madness,...,I hope the computer thinks the same one day, (he might if he's smart enough).

I wonder if they will call it "SkyNet"?
Maybe IBM should rename themselves
"Cyberdyne Systems"

Should be able to rival my brain with 3 transisters and a rusty diode!

You got that right, but its still 12,000 apple processors.
The word "crash" comes to mind.

If your brain does what they tell it too =)
Seriously tho, I think it's far too presumptuous to say it has the computing power of the human mind. It may have the same potential connections and calculation speed, but the human mind will always be superior to binary calculation because of it's chemical nature and it's algorithmic flexibility. I'll wait until they start designing organic computers before I take these statements seriously. Fact is, Deep Blue can beat me at chess, but I'll whup it in no limit Texas hold'em =)

Sure it's powerful, but where's the love?:p
I don't know why they don't do research on linking human brains together to make a supercomputer. Now THAT would be impressive.:D

That's kinda funny, cuz I'd probably whoop you at chess and definitely lose at Texas hold 'em (as I did this fri. night).
