Hi all im wondering if you can help me, i am using Maya 7 and am having trouble selecting multiple edges, in Maya 6 there was the ability to select Contiguous edges.
How do you do this in Maya 7 any help would be greatly appreciated.

are you talking about edge loops? - you can either use the loop or rin selection tool, or di what I do and assign hotkeys to selection>convert selection to loop/ring that way the normal selector tool can be used easily for loop and ring selections.

The old command is still there somewhere if you want to use it. It uses angles between edges to determine the selection so you can get a different result than the loop selection.
Also, if you have an edge selected then there are hotkeys for loop/ring selection stuff if you hold Ctrl-LMB and SouthEast/SouthWest.

just in case, here's some usefull builtin marking menu hotkeys that speed up your workflow (maya 7):

CTRL + RMB -- this one shows up when components are selected and it has selection commands like grow, select loop, ring, convert to..., etc.

SHIFT + RMB -- this context sensitive marking menu has various poly-related commands.
Btw i've modifyed the default script (from maya 7) to show menus for nurbs and sbds among with polygons :)

good luck
